looking at the new artisans updated, and reading the progression and how much it costs it lists the cumulative gold for mystic and Blacksmith at 63,900 gold each and 46,000 gold for the jeweler. so 173,800 gold total to level up all 3 to max.
so im asking how much gold were you able to pool between making 4-5 characters in the beta? will this much gold be easily achievable or will it take awhile?

Hm, I have no idea how much I've gotten total. The first patch I started playing the beta in, even after updating the Blacksmith to level 4, and not buying or selling anything on the AH at all, I had about 30k still. I don't think gold will be too much of a problem, but it depends who you are and how you spend it. If you're buying a lot on the AH with gold, but not selling much, or selling a lot of your gold for real money, then you won't have as much. I don't think I'll have any issues with the artisans though.

did you get all your chars to 13 when u had 30k? and did u have all 5 classes?

Had all 5 classes, all at level 13, and farmed on each of them, but mostly on the DH/Barb. Also went back and played through all the quests a few times on a couple of them.

well if gold increases per difficulty and with selling items you should definitely have enough gold to upgrade all 3 before or around max level on just one character. sweet.

Well, certain materials only come from certain difficulties. So, since you have to be level 60 before even being able to go into Inferno, you won't be able to get the materials to get the Inferno levels until then. Well, unless of course you buy them on the AH. But they might not actually be able to level up pass the difficulty you are currently in. If that makes sense?
Basically, they might make it so you have to be actually in Inferno mode to get the Inferno levels (Glorious/Exalted) so you'll have to be 60 first anyway.
And to think about all the hype that was given over the artisans being super-expensive and a long term goal to get to max level. Now it looks relatively cheap, and once you've leveled them all to max (which would be soon enough) you never have to think about it again?

lol...
ya super cheap AND between all your characters? that seems way too easy.
BUT
blizzard said they want you out killing monsters 90%+ of the time. therefor this makes sense for their goal to have you spending most of your time in the world and not in town leveling up your artisans on every one of your chars.

But it doesn't take a lot of time to physically press the level up button on your artisans. What takes the chunk of time to get them to max level is obviously gathering the gold and training pages.
I didn't expect much from levelling the artisans back when it was announced, and exactly that has been delivered.

Well it's a good thing that we'll have to be spending most of our time killing
I've been looking at the artisans pages and it seems that we're going to be spending most of our end game time looking for plans and getting the resources required to build those. It's not as bad as I expected!
When I first got my hands on the beta I had topped out at about 20-25k gold but I also spent a bunch on my stash. I had 2 full pages which costs like 25k gold as well. Also, this is all from the beginning of act 1. Accumulating gold for the artisans won't be difficult but the materials is another issue completely.. The top tier recipes require materials from salvaged level 7 runestones!
The thing is, the beta has such a small amount of content to sink gold and gives you plenty of room to make tons of it through scavenging and selling items. In the final game I don't think we'll see "rich" people until at least end of act one and after some general dungeon to boss runs for loot. We'll be sinking gold into 3 artisans plus sinking gold into their abilities (weapon crafting and so forth). Just my 2cents
Including all patches since 4 I've easily had somewhere from 500-900k gold. Gold find helps alot, selling on the AH does aswell (everything > 20% gold find sells really well). Now this is just Level 1-13.
If you look at the sell values of Armor, you'll notice the Level 60 equipment has around ten times the worth of the first items. Now we don't know how often these will drop in Hell/Inferno, but I see no problem at all coming up with the cash to upgrade all Artisans. It's more likely to be limited by finding the 750 Scrolls of Training you'll need to upgrade all of them to Level 10 (which is their final level).
Gold find will be very desired stat in D3. You can definitely quote me on this. According to current knowledge it should be possible to have over 1000% gold find in the final release. I've been running around with 180-250% in every beta patch so far and the cash does come in handy. Just craft all armor pieces until you get the Lucky modifier, this will get you over 100% easily with a very small effort.

Where do you see anything about Rank 7 runestones?

I think Blizz will keep some ace up its sleeves.
If I were in their shoes I wouldn't tell everything about the game prior to release.
I was surprised you were the first to bring this up - I mean how hard would it be to go into the code and slap another zero on the end of those figures if the amount of gold to upgrade is way too trivial? My guess is they want the access to the level to be relatively cheap (in other words you dont spend days farming gold just to upgrade you blacksmith to level 10 ) but it will probably hurt a little in the money department. The big "ouch" will probably come when you actually use one of those enchantments/services.
I REALLY hope gold retains value in the game at all times unlike D2 where its only real mechanic was to rez your merc.

Hell gold drops... 18 to 156, seem to average around 50. So that's a 250 average gold drop if you run 500% gold find. Which is pretty nice imo.

Some of these recipes are just plain silly, only an imbecile would destroy three level 7 runestone for this...
