Hi there i just watched some streams bout the beta. and in every stream i saw this ugly red outlines when you target an enemy with your mouse. I would like to know if there is a option witch toggles them off? really its the
only thing by now, that i really dont like in this game.
I agree, D3 has some great looking mobs. Id hate to see them ruined by having to stare at glowing red models instead of true form. When I first saw it I thought it really took you out of the playing, "realistic" as well. I really hope the toggle makes it into release, since Blues only hinted it would.
I think the reason this was added was because it's going to be hecka hard for people (especially those with poor vision) to be able to see/target some mobs through fog/haze, dark areas and have those creatures, which may be similar in color to the environment, stand out.
I don't see a problem with this, as long as they give control to the player in the end. Maybe have an option for another color outline, a thinner outline, a more "feathered" outline or something, as well as the option to turn it off.
IMO it makes it look like a "toon" outline and not 3d model and if they are harder to see through fog...well that just makes my adrenaline flow more!..bring them on!
I think it's a nostalgia option, because monsters in D1 had the same red outline when you targeted them. They definitely seem more intrusive in D3, though.
IMO The way it should be in the options pannel is somthing like:
-Highlights target creture with an outline (Red by default)
-Adjustable slider for brightness level
-Selector box with multiple color choices: Red / Green / Yellow / Blue / Purple -Highlights target creture by brightening its model
-Adjustable sleder for brightness level -No distinction for current monster target
You're right, there's no toggle option for the red outline in the current version of the beta, but please keep in mind that several options are currently missing and/or not available.
The release version will include more options related to graphics and gameplay.

Just some ideas off the top of my head.

I can't imagine it taking up much resources at ALL.
I kind of like it, but hope that I'll be able to make it thinner.
