I wrote recently about Diablo 3 being free to play, well sort of. For better gamers, it will be possible to earn money playing the diablo auction houses. So let's consider for a moment that you make back the $60 you paid for the game... Does that mean that Diablo 3 cost you nothing?
Technically you spent time to earn the money, but you were going to spend that time playing anyway!
If you really want to play diablo 3 for free, then you need to prescribe to the mentality that you will not buy anything on the rmah that will not directly help you to make more money. So if you find a great deal on magic dust of awesome that you can flip next week for double the profit then that's ok. However, if you spend money every level to fill out lacking gear slots then you're going to pay to make someone else's diablo 3 free to play instead of your own.
Think about it and remember the success of the iPhone app store. There are people casually spending hundreds each year on 99 cent apps without even realizing it. The same will happen with Diablo's ah!
cept that has nothing to do with his post...and you might want to check the OP's blog...
[plus that guys talking about undercutting in there which loses some cred for me...as most people will be using bids..
Well If you read that post you'll understand that the conclusion bottom-line:
You'll probably not make much (or any) money from Diablo 3.
thats not what the post said at all... -___-
you wont be able to make a living.. you WILL be able to make the money back you spent on d3 over time... high end items are still going to sell for a nice amount ($1-$20) who knows exactly.. but we will be getting a dollar or two... itll get paid off.
With enough work, you probably could make the $60 back. However, it'd take a while. Not knowing the flat fees in place it would be hard to tell how long that'd take.

The blog states that you can't earn a living but it might be possible to pay for other blizzard items (won't be easy). Which is essentially what this post is about, you can play D3 and never put a dime into it and still buy some items. If your very smart on plying the market and very frugal with your spending you might even earn enough to purchase the next expansion for SC2 one day
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
That post on the EU forums talks about something like "you know who makes the real money? the guy who sits in front of the AH for 5 hours a day... they get stinking rich!" (paraphrasing).
I'm glad I can't make money because someone else, playing the game, is making that money instead, and is filthy rich because of the game. Wait. I thought no one could make money. I confus'd.
#1 Market value for [sword of awesome] is $5
#2 AH camper knows this and is waiting for an unknowledgeable player to post below market so he can flip it.
#3 I find [sword of awesome]x5 and am aware that AH camper dude likes this item.
#4 I post [sword of awesome]x5 for $3 giving camper dude a $2 profit for each sword because I know he'll buy them to flip.
#5 I made $15, AH camper will profit $10

I read the post and laughed. Seriously, I don't mean to be condescending but he is only right about one thing in that post: diablo 3 is not world of Warcraft.
Market cycles are how you can dominate the diablo ah. Unlike in the real world, gaming cycles are easy to predict and the playerbase is mostly ignorant of them.
I made 2 million gold in wow because I understood market cycles an how players misuse the auction house.
Stay tuned to my blog, I seriously am going o try my best to let everyone who reads it make some money playing diablo 3.

I think they're betting on EXACTLY this. Even with how much of a stigma there is with microtransactions, they are damn effective. A lot of it depends on your time and money situation, though. For a high school or college student with time to burn, paying $1 for an item that would cost an hour to get might seem silly, but for a busy person who just wants to play the game, $1 is nothing.
I was wondering if you could buy Blizzard games with the e-balance.
You can convert the RM ingame currency to either e-balance which u can spend at the blizzard store (buying games, subscriptions etc..) or you can cash out for real money.

You set it up ahead of time. So you either choose e-balance or going to their chosen 3rd party real cash option.
No converting things around. You can't "Cash out " your e-balance its stuck there permantly.

Uhm, actually by default the cash goes to your bnet account e-balance, and if you choose to set it up, a third party provides the transfer between Blizzard and your bank account or whatever. Whether that's PayPal or someone else hasn't been announced yet. But you're 100% wrong, your e-balance CAN be cashed out. It can also be used to buy blizzard games online.
I figure that the $40 I paid for D3 preorder will more than likely be covered whenever I decide to sell my characters, gold and items. I mean, it feels weird talking about this since it's legal. In WoW, I sold my accounts after I was done with each of them, mostly just to cover the cost of playing the game. Feels a lot better quitting when you're up like $30-$40 net after a year or two of playing.
Its still a choice even if one is defaulted. Regardless you cannot remove any money from ebalance to a credit card.
I have no idea where you got that idea.

Runes, gold, gems, trash gear to specifically salvage, salvage mats, etc
It's easier to sell to the people trying to play the markets than to try and control a REGIONAL market.
I'll make my cost of buying Diablo 3 back. EZ
You're on the right track, just need to look into market cycles and you'll be good to go
