Hmm. Assuming I don't care for online play due to the RMA and the fact that I don't like Hardcore, explain to me what my motivation is for buying a product with DRM designed to shit on paying customers again? I mean, half the time I play SP games it's because I want something to play in my MMO downtime due to SPECIFICALLY the "online only" feature of MMO's. o.O
I'll have to stick with Torchlight and wait for Grim Dawn, I guess.
I dont see why people are upset about this at all. Who actually plays diablo offline when your net or servers are down? I used to try that and got bored fairly quickly and just played something else until net came back.
I can see why ppl are mad at SC2 because it has a single player mode that most wont even do if they can get online. Thats something I used to dabble in when my net was out.
Who really spent that much time playing d2 offline? Honestly? Who would really spend that much time playing d3 offline?
I played diablo 2 in singleplayer or on LANs with friends, cause I didn't have a fast/stable internet connection back then. Now that I do I personally don't mind it that much, but I still don't like it, they seem to completely ignore people in areas that don't have access to fast internet or have limited connections still might want to play their game, even if they have to play alone
Those people are a minority. So, they took the lesser of two evils by not having an offline play for much better security over having some few be able to play in areas with no internet.
Why would anyone care if they implemented a separate offline single player mode for the people that want/need it to play?
Personally I don't give a dead moose's last shit if it's online only. That said, only a sheep would think the game will be "better" due to the omission of a single player mode. If that bothers you, you're probably a sheep.

Blizzard was the second gunman on the grassy gnoll too.

I've got a good idea. Let's all pretend that Diablo 3 is going to be a brand new game that never existed before. Let's pretend for just a second that no one has ever played the complete version. Now we--- oh, wait. I've just been informed that Diablo 3 IS a brand new game that never existed before and no one HAS ever played the complete version. Okay, um...
Alright, um. Okay, let's pretend that players can't "miss" features of a brand new game since a brand new game never had them. Let's pretend (just pretend, mind you) that a brand new game can't really be expected to have every feature that every gamer wants. Let's just PRETEND that if all brand new games were expected to cater to the needs of everyone, then every new game would be the same as every new game. So that means----- oh, no, I've been informed that all that was actually reality as well.
Look, people, Diablo 3 is an online game. I guess if you're not an online gamer, whatever reason may be fueling that, you won't be playing Diablo 3, because it's an online game. The game's architecture isn't so "box-o'-legos" that Blizzard can just slide in an offline mode. It's not like they have an on-off switch. "Okay, D3 team, looks like about 14% of the internet is angry. Better flip the offline mode back on." I daresay that implementing an offline mode would push this game back 3+ months. That's even optimistic. Because aside from rewriting the entire game engine... aside from rewriting the game so that all the important data that is kept server-side can be kept client-side... aside from rewriting their ENTIRE security system to account for the reality that everyone can possibly access every bit of information that they got from their client-side game... Now Blizzard has to atmospherically rework the game so that it accounts for the fact that now everyone is not necessarily part of the D3 world if they're playing D3.
I'm sorry. I understand that you hoped it wouldn't be an online game. But it is. It's a game you must get online to play. I know, I know, reality sucks. I guess a particular video game has been proven once and for all to NOT be an inalienable right of soldiers, people with crappy internet, and people on the go. I don't know about the rest of you, but MY whole world is crumbling in the face of that revelation.

Good god, it's like sarcasm gained autonomy and posted under a new account all it's own.
I am neutral because I was planning on doing all of my D3 online regardless. However i have to take a lot of business related flights throughout the year and D3 would have been a good way to get through some of the flights. I could have set up an offline character which I only play during flights. That would have been interesting to see how long/how many flights it would have taken me to beat the game in hell. Ah well, there is always south park to kill time on flights...
Did rather extensive modding of D2 and played a number of mods as well. Spent alot of time offline because I can't stand public games nor the time limit on realm chars. I see this move dramatically curtailing D3's lifespan for me.

Can make private games online, and there's no time limit on online characters now. (I assume you're talking about that 90 day thing.)
I travel a lot...a lot of my free time is spent at my in-laws place on the Navajo Nation. Where they live there are not ISP and cell signal is VERY limited. That being said, not having an true to form single player mode does blow IMO. But will it stop me from buying it, hell no. It's annoying but not a REAL problem.
thx guys, poll looking good.
i did expect the curve to be the way it is, though with more votes we can have better estimates how diablo fans feel about online only...
I can't believe some people are crying about this... grow the fuck up. This is better for 95% of the player base. Blizzard can monitor things better to prevent hacks and so on. Blizzard keeps denying it, but I think the main reason is still to reduce pirating. I can't blame them at all, they spent a lot of time on this game and they want to protect it.
Lets outline some of the main crying.
"WAHH I can't play when I'm on my laptop on the road" Wifi hotspot, cell phone tethering, mobile usb stick internet. Don't have those things? Too bad.
"OMGZ constant INTERNET NOOO my data limit will get destroyed" No it wont, fools. One hour of play wont take more then 15mb of data. That is so so small of an amount.
"I'm only interested in single player, why do I have to have internet" Blizzard games have always been online focused, because its 1000000x more fun. If you don't like that, stick to Torchlight (a fun game... but gets boring fast because its just SP)
Reading some of the things on the Toms Hardware topic made me wanna rage...

Cry more.

Sigh. First world problems are tough, I know. But you'll make it through.
