Inferno Mode, doesn't sound as EXTREME as Hell Mode but I like the concept.
Inferno is a diffrent word for "hell". I dont see how we could have 2 HELL mode except if Inferno was just something for end-gaming / bonus and not an actual harder mode.
I just wanted to chime in (I didn't see it mentioned yet but I assume you guys have seen) that also accessible alongside the interview is a bunch of FAQs and Beta info and overviews and jazz.
Now I find it funny how you bring up that Blizzard would be a fool to not put Nightmare and Hell into Diablo because it was in Diablo 1 and 2...where are my manual stat points or skills again or townportals or potion spam? Right this is Diablo 3 and not Diablo 1 or 2, they could give a damn about tradition with this game, so counting Nightmare out is totally a possibility. Just like the skill system Nightmare mode can be recoded and vanish before release. I doubt it will happen but don't put to much faith in Blizzard buddy.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's breaking tradition, as much as it's rather evolving the mechanics.
Skills - 1 had spell books, 2 introduced skill points, 3 unlocks skills that can be improved through runes.
Town portals - 1 had single scrolls, 2 introduced the tome, 3 has a portal stone used outside of battle.
Potions - 1 had single potions that worked instantly, 2 introduced stacks that filled gradually, 3 has potions of cooldown.
And there are many other things I can list that were changed between 1 and 2. Blizzard isn't trying to destroy a legacy with Diablo 3, they are trying to evolve it.
Blizzard has always been on the forefront, bringing new systems to a genre and sometimes reshaping it. So far, Diablo 3 doesn't seem any different.
I'm also going to add here, for people looking for proof that Nightmare was not removed and that the screenshots are not old:
If you download the press kit and click on the pictures, the bottom panel of Explorer shows the date the screenshot was taken. As a matter of fact, the Auction House screenshots were taken in March, and are the oldest content in the Press Kit. All other UI screenshots were taken between July 22 and July 23, according to the embedded Date Created information.
Case closed as to whether or not Nightmare is currently implemented.
That has to be sarcasm. It has been posted many times on the Bnet forums, so he knows what they are referring to.
Its the next best thing to them confirming that it is an end-game thing at this point since it wasn't an out an out "no, we messed up, he meant hell" reply.
I was just watching the Diablo III The Story So Far - Interview: Boyarsky
and during said interview the question is asked
"is there any chance of humanity in sancuary having to decide to side with Angels or Demons (Heaven or Hell)"
and the answer in short was yes. a good chance of that.
I was thinking just theroy crafting here,i love the idea of Inferno being a new difficulty but i dont know if im a fan of it being a 4th play through.
So here is my theroy:
Inferno:Your hero gets to choose, Angels or Demons, instead of another playthrough You and other real life players that made the same decision you made, get to either enter heaven and hunt Angels or enter the gates of Hells and smash demons
and some kind of mode where mass mayhem brakes out and a war is sparked, you as your char. must fight for the team you decided to pick. Some kind of End game Once a week Battle or some thing..
The choices are almost limitless, but using this idea, How about people come up with some ideas of what might happen if
we get to choose a side and how that could effect Inferno difficulty
Some kind of "new mode" of game play that blizzard might throw at us for end game content

I like this idea. In the longrun tho I think they should have multiple coop/pvp modes for the endgame. I really feel thats the only way to make this game appealing for long periods.

It could work on the same idea, a "team heaven and a team hell" both consisting of 4 real players and some angels or demons winer fights a boss of one or the other and gets loots!
Well....If you chose the demons side, why would you go and kill you kin then? Like, if you choose to be on the demons side, doesn't that kind of kill the pvm side of this game? Since then, you wouldn't have anyone to kill in PvM since you're fighting demons?
I don't like how this would split people up. If I want to play with a friend that's going the "anti angels" path, and I'm an "anti demon" character, wouldn't make the slightest sense. But then again, things making sense in a game is for pussies, right =]?
I don't see them doing anything like this though, making such a huge part of the game (2 different acts) only accessible after you finish the 3 difficulties, and as a 4th difficulty doesn't really sound like their game design philosophy.

I was ready to be negative and start flaming like I often do here at DiabloFans ever since my baby "PvP ladder" got scrapped but holy Diablo Batman this idea was actually good and I think you actually might even be right.
Why would they have a "secret" inferno difficulty if it didn't have some kind of twist.
You get the biggest +1 I have handed out this year. And coming from a negative person like myself that means a lot
You will be remembered when Blizzard actually announce your idea and if they don't they damn should listen to you.
Cheers.
But wait theres more...
To answer why would you kill your kin.. thats easy diablo has been known to send people completely insane, and it would be a really nice twist for end game to let your hero sercome to diablos over powering mental attacks.
Say 4 players in a party + Some all powerful Demon Vs 4 players in a party +some all powerful Angel
Ofcause tyrael would have to be the referee, and both NPC team members can spawn mobs in waves that players must kill, for HP globes,
So say a game of Chess, as an event so in sperate games players would fight the opisite sides minions, and the team that completes the waves quicker gains some kind of bonus for the "end level" where each party and there "king" be it angel or demon
Get to fight against each other for the victory
So after some co-op PvE smashing wave after wave of mobs, you and your party get to Do some PvP , in an arena style show down, only with an Angel and Demon fighting along side you, buffing you and attacking everything..
I don't like how this would split people up. If I want to play with a friend that's going the "anti angels" path, and I'm an "anti demon" character, wouldn't make the slightest sense. But then again, things making sense in a game is for pussies, right =]?

This would be why its a once a week, once a month kinda thing, i mean your lvl 60 at the end of hell,so you wont "need" inferno for lvls it could be more like a weekly event, leaving the rest of the week or month to play with your friends.
Its just an idea of mine thought id share it and get some convo going thats not "RMAH this RMAH that"
Although i like the idea, there's one thing that would be difficult story-wise:
Appearantly diablo IS gonna be back to get his *ss kicked. So... After defeating him in hell-difficulty, wouldnt it be weird if you then choose to fight on the side of hell's army? First you kill their leader and then you fight with them? mmmm... i dunno..
It would actually make more sense then you think since Hell is hated for being overly cruel and manipulative to humans, while heaven is hated for being overly strict and having a twisted sense of justice at times. With Diablo dead the invasion of hell would be put to a halt, and there wouldn't be a reason to actually war with the demons anymore. We also do not know how the story will develop and the angel's sense of justice may have become more twisted over the last 20 years.
Anyone else think a fourth difficulty should in no way be considered an "end-game" that we have been hearing about? Maybe I'm just being selfish but after completing the same game three times with increasing difficulty each time I would think the payoff or the "end-game" would be something different resembling a reward. Not the same thing resembling more work.
Flaming Secret Cow Level = Inferno difficulty imo. Can only unlock with a battle.net e-balance of $100.

Not that there's anything really new there that I've seen so far, still reading.
