Unseen from D3Sanc.com made a news article on this. You can find it [here].
It's pretty hard evidence that they're shooting for a PS3 release. I don't think I need to go into more detail than what's in the article.
What I do want to know is, what's going to happen to the multiplayer if this goes through? Do PS3 players get to play with PC players online? If so, how does that make you feel? Do you think it matters? Do you not care?
To be fair, PS3 has a lot more chance to have cross platform play than 360 ever would.
Problem is, I don't want mic users in my games. I expect nothing from console players except voice chat (obviously), and I always turn that off, -always-. Which means no communication. If its possible, I hope you can filter out PS3 users or have PC only games.
I don't see how the game could ever be completely compatible from the PC to console. The mouse can not be replaced by a d-pad or joystick. Things like targeting would have to have some changes to it.
Because of this, if D3 is ported over, it will not interact with the PC versions.

Wait, has this been confirmed, or is that just speculation?
...thats non sense. The core of the game and the actual information shared between the players could very well be adapted to work together on both PC and PS3.
Well...I highly doubted Diablo could be played on a console. But since D3's first gameplay video, I started to wonder that it is a fair possibility. I mean, with the new UI and Skill Select it is possible to play with a controller.
If you even look at the UI, it seems a bit like an UI from a console game.
And not wanting to start a flamewar, but if the rumors are true I think Blizzard is aiming for PS3 to include Battle.net in it. It wouldn't be the same on a 360 since you don't have to pay to play online, Battle.net is free (My opinion, not trying to bash the 360).
There are some games that allows players from console and PC to play online. So it seems a fair chance.
I don't think it would be impossible by any means on ps3. Here's how I imagine the control scheme could work:
The left analog stick controls character motion, triggers control 4 skills, select pulls up the item screen, start pulls up the general menu, the 4 main buttons are used for main skills and misc other things like potions.
I remember hearing Blizzard say in the past that they were interested in making a version of Diablo 3 for consoles, but they said that they would have to re-do a lot of things, so in essence it would be a similar, but different game on the consoles.
I don't know if that means new/different content for the consoles, but I don't really see the Diablo 3 team being able to produce content for two unique Diablo 3 experiences. The most likely choice in my opinion is that Blizzard will try to make as direct of a port as possible, but will still have to redo a lot of skills to be more controller friendly and the control scheme as well.
I really hope that any console venture won't be too difficult or distracting for the Diablo 3 team to handle. I also hope that console sales won't be so big in comparison to PC sales that Blizzard would begin to prioritize consoles first for the Diablo series.
To be honest, I think they should just stay away from consoles. The only possible effect that this is going to have is to make PC development of Diablo 3 and it's expansions slower, which is a really big minus.

Its being held as a side project so to speak. It has no impact on the development of the PC version as the team porting it is not the same team, and if it is their primary purpose is PC not PS3 or Xbox360 so whatever work they have for consoles would only be done after they finish work on the PC, version.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
its cool that they are aiming for a console version of D3. But theres no way in hell (no pun intended) that PS3 folks play against PC folks ever. I know they tried an experiment once with Xbox360, playstation 3 and PC: they made an fps game that could be played on each and basically what they found was that expert users of the console games got their butts whipped repeatedly by just average users of PC games. Theres just too big of an advantage from the mouse and keyboard.

Blizzard used to care about releasing Diablo III, then they all took an arrow in the knee...
I just read about it from another source and came here to check it out.
Seems like the buzz is centered around this job posting: Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an enthusiastic senior software engineer to be a key contributor on the Diablo team. This position is responsible for overseeing Playstation 3 (PS3) architecture design as well as other PS3-specific game code development to maximize platform performance.
Responsibilities
•Design, implement, and maintain game systems to work on the Playstation 3.
•Identify previously unknown issues and offer solutions.
•Be responsible for various systems including the game engine, audio, physics, tools pipeline, etc.
•Work closely with game design to ensure a great player experience.

That was Shadowrun I believe, and people personally found that it handled better on Xbox360 then PC, apparently. (Never played it) Probably just this game, though.

Handling
Any self respecting gamer knows that the mouse and keyboard is an unbeatable combination for first person shooters. Controller freaks can defend their chosen weapon until they're blue in the thumbs, but to those of us who are comfortable with both methods of control, there is no arguing - mouse and keyboard wins every time.
So how did FASA reconcile these two irreconcilable differences? For starters, the game's reliance upon spell casting means that you won't always be shooting things. That's right, 10% of the time you'll be figuring out where to plant a tree of life or spawn a minion. Relax, it's not as boring as it sounds, and it will make quite a difference to your team's success. However, the other 90% of the time is still a trigger-pulling fire-fight.
And it's here that Shadowrun's reticule comes into play. Unlike most crosshairs, this is a cross-circle. It's around the size of a five cent piece (obviously this varies depending on the size of your screen, but you get the idea) and your bullets will go somewhere within this space.
This system works great on the 360, really evening out the playing field, with the exception of sniping, where the more accurate crosshair gives PC owners an edge. During our session, one team was all 360 players, while the other team was all PC. And the 360s managed to win just as many times as the PCs - something none of us could have predicted. Cool huh?
Sure… if you're a 360 player. Unfortunately, PC players will detest this system. They're used to their bullets going where they're aiming. In Shadowrun, compared to other PC shooters, the bullets spread out like a shotgun firing scattershot, due to the large cross-circle. Start moving and it's even worse - you'll be lucky to hit the side of a shopping mall if you so much as take a step.
The final trout slap to the face of PC gamers is the fact that the menu systems are all built around the 360 controller. To select an option you have to use the mouse to click on the green button of a 360 controller that is displayed on screen.

Ok I read the article, and it's really out of context of the conversation. This is not an FPS we're talking about. It's literally a point-and-click Action RPG. Without a mouse, the controls for D3 on console(s) will be much different. Also, as the article says, the game sacrifices game mechanics for gameplay. They sacrifice one of the most important part of an FPS - shooting - to accommodated their game. Blizz wouldn't succumb to this.

Uhh... yes... I was just correcting the guy that brought the FPS up.
I think online play on different platforms will be separate from each other for the same reason that Call of Duty: Black Ops did. It doesn't matter if the game has been ported well and if the graphics are compatible, someone clicking with a mouse will always be faster than someone aiming with a controller (ideally) so to keep game-play, especially pvp, consistent and fair, the platforms should be separate.
