Has the + skills mod on items been confirmed to be in Diablo 3? This was one of, if not the most sought after mod in Diablo 2 and had a dramatic effect on the character's power.

Very true, it was indeed the +skill that separated the guys from the gods..
However, I dont believe any information has been given pertaining to this matter.
Some one please correct me if I am wrong.

Will there be mercenaries? If so will be able to see their gear?
This was a topic that I wish got more attention at the Q&A session at Blizzcon, unfortunately there were so many other more important questions that we didn't get to hear about it...(/SARCASM) I hate to say but my feeling at this point is that there will not be mercenaries, but I am secretly wishing they will release it at the end and surprise us all...

As we know from D2, this was not an affix that we saw until later in the game. Even if they intended to add it to D3, the scope of the demo at Blizzcon did not permit us to reach a high enough level to witness +skill items. I'm going out on a limb here, but my feeling is that they will not have +skill items in D3 simply because it's low impacting compared to what rune modifications can do to your skills. It's likely that instead they will translate to being able to craft better runes so your skills can do more dmg or have better effects, either by having better crafting skills or by procuring better crafting materials.
What are the in-game benefits of playing in group?
There are no direct benefits from playing multiplayer. There are no items, quests, monsters, or anything else that is exclusive to multiplayer. The only real difference is getting to play the game with other people. There may be some indirect benefits like larger access to items since each player gets their only loot and can trade it with you. There is also the possibility of increased leveling speed by being able to kill harder monsters quicker.

Are new tiers (for gear) added only by new expansions or through patches?
Diablo does not use a tier system for their armor and therefore will likely not get higher ranking armor in patches.
The game is designed with an end and therefore they can include the highest armor needed initially without having to increase it more. They are also not adding in content just for PvP which would be another reason to add more armor through patches.
When an expansion is released and the end game content changes, then this is when they will probably increase the level and rank of gear to higher level to match the new end game.

Are the towns big cities like where you hangout when you are not playing?
Diablo 3 will have bigger and more interactive cities than Diablo 2. However, it is unlikely these places will be a central hub where people gather when not killing demons.
Firstly, the development team is doing everything they can to minimize down-time in Diablo leaving you as much play time killing demons. Secondly, as of now, each game can only have four players leaving no real need to create a large scale gathering point.

Does the number of monsters or their health pool scale with regards to the size of group?
Yes. Like Diablo 2, the more players in the game, the harder the monsters become to defeat. However, with the advancement of Diablo 3 over the past series, it is more than possible that this difficulty will be more than just a boost in HP.

As of now, no. You will not be able to obtain other classes' skills.

As it relates to Diablo III, I wouldn't say "never", but providing a way to gain access to other class abilities is not something we're looking to or planning on implementing in the foreseeable future. I think if at some point years after the game is released we need some way to spice things up, honestly it's one fairly easy way to do it. I also think we have enough knowledge and know how and experience to be able to intelligently control such things. But I would also hope that those smarts could maybe help us find better ways to keep things interesting.

Will there be annual updates or steady patching coming from Blizzard after the release? Yes I'm asking if there's more than the two possible expansions, will the patches come as frequently as Starcraft 2/World of Warcraft?
Hello every1,
My second post here with some questions which i hope you guys can answer:
- Will item linking be added?
- Regarding the tier structure of items of WoW (previously asked),will there be more flexibility/different options in diablo 3? Meaning will you have different viable options for items instead of certain items (craftable or drops) Always being the best? I ask this because i hated it in WoW that certain gear was always the best.
- The loot system currently works that you only see your own loot. I was wondering if the loot that drops for you has a higher chance to be good loot for your class (like an orb for a wizard will never drop for a babarian for example)?
- Will there be bound on pickup items?
- Will all items use 1 slot in the inventory now (instead of the old tetris style)?
- How many skill trees do the classes have?
- Are the wizard skill trees known yet?
- How will the quest system work? You have the main story. Will you get a quest book like diablo 2? Or will you get a more open quest book with the possibility of sidequests?
- There were a lot of trade games in diablo 2. Does diablo 3 handle this more user friendly (for example a special channel with item linking or maybe even an auction house)?
- The rune system gives a lot of customizability for characters. They said there were like 70 billion different combinations. I wonder how much of this they will make visual noticable.. Like your skill is lvl 3 with a lvl 4 rune and then you put a lvl 5 rune in. How will you notice it (will they really design all these different combinations)?
Thanks for your time and expertise.. I realize some questions are better/worse then others. You can ignore the stupid ones if they are really bad.
Cheers Sjizzle

Don't recall if they've come out and said this explicitly, but I think it's obvious they will have to avoid always making the same source the best. It's safe to say D3 will primarily focus on the best gear coming from drops, but they can't trivialize crafting or quest rewards either.

I don't think we've heard any plans to implement this and it seems unlikely given that we know there will be a shared stash.

I think we can expect there to be sidequests, but they haven't said how those will be presented.

Yes. All content is accessible in single player. This includes gear, skills, quests, and all other aspects of the game.

Only quest items.

From what we've seen so far it will behave just like in D2.
The skill tree system was replaced with a simpler "tiered" skill system, where there will be new set of skill choices unlocked at specific levels.
Yes, Wizard#Skills
I think we can expect there to be sidequests, but they haven't said how those will be presented.
They haven't announced how that will work yet, but they have acknowledged that the previous system could definitely be improved (ie: dumping all your items into the trade window)

It won't always be visually obvious, but you can mostly expect each higher rank to give the same bonus but just more of it. More discussion here: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/23734-resurrections-shrines-poison-clouds-and-rune-effects/
