If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last

Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help
You need only just ask
There are people who have gotten beta invites because they are known to give a lot of feedback, suggestions, etc. in constructive manners. These include many forum goers and people involved with social media. Simply having logged 2,000 hours or 100,000 elite kills doesn't matter here.
Then there are people who run fansites and other media channels who will report information and build up hype for an upcoming game. Those who run Diablofans, IncGamers, Reddit, etc. all qualify here.
And then there are people who are simply good at hyping people up and spreading the word through demonstrations. These would be your full-time livestreamers, YouTubers, and "pro" gamers.
And finally, at least for this F&F beta session, there are people who are genuinely close to Blizzard Entertainment in real life, so they get their share.
For future beta invites, post-F&F, be sure you opt in for the beta in your B.net account settings. Just go to "Beta Profile Settings" on the right hand side of your screen, then check "Diablo" when you get to the beta settings page. It's more or less going to be a lottery draw, just like it has been with the closed Hearthstone beta.
By the way, I wouldn't call the F&F Beta "beta." I'd call it Alpha 1.5. There's a lot of work to be done there.
They initially said the closed beta would begin in December along with the 2.0 PTR patch. The closed beta means a lot more people will get in (compared to 3000).

I'm sure despite what they do with pre orders there will be a random chance of being invited with a battle.net opt in.
