I was curious as to what difficulty we'll have to start in for Act V. Will we have to play through Normal Act V and progress regularly or will we be able to jump straight into Inferno Act V? Which way do you want or see it going?
Where did they say that Inferno might not still be around? I can't remember reading that anywhere, source?
My thoughts are that they might have us play through Act V on each difficulty to "complete" the difficulty to advance further on or the could just plop us down in Act V inferno.
I don't know if this contributes to the conversation much, but currently...there's a guy on my friends list who, when I look at his profile, it says he's beaten Inferno, Butcher, Azmodan and Diablo...but apparently hasn't killed Belial. Which means, some amount of skipping around can take place...
That being said, I don't think installing the expansion will prevent you from doing Act 5 Inferno right out of the gate, but maybe it won't automatically register as Act 5 being beaten on Normal, Nightmare and Hell until you officially beat them there.
Good reason as any, among the many there already are, to roll a Crusader, ;-)

Basically yah. You can power level people and skip all the content in the world, the only thing that needs to be done is lvl requirements and killing Diablo to progress to a new difficulty.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
Act 5 will probably just be open for everyone with who bought the expansion, on all difficulty levels.
New players who just bought the game (or rolls crusader for that matter) would need to be enabled to get into normal mode act5 right after getting rid of Diablo.
Lvl 60 characters who are already done with inferno, can choose to complete act 5 on any difficulty
I think its a shame that the story of the expansion does not have to be fought for. a lvl 60 can just go back to normal and 1-shot Malthael as he see fit, and have that as the grand unveiling of the story and plot.
I would wish for a scenario where the new plot was tough to go through, but in diablo 3, that will not happen, since we do not reset softcore (I do not want forced resets btw).
If Inferno still exists our characters would not be able to kill monsters in that content. The monsters would be something to the effect of level 73 if the difficulty design stays the same. We will likely need to revert back to hell to catch up in level.
I would think you get to pick the difficulty. It's an expansion, not a completely new game. Think of it as an extension of the existing game, allowing you to progress forward.

I think that's pretty much it. Inferno will be locked once you upgrade your account to RoS, so you will need to go back to Hell on your 60's to start leveling up to 70 and then move back up to Inferno. You'll still need to actually go back and do it on Normal and Nightmare to get credit though, which can be done on any fresh character, such as a crusader.
The exact details (such as the new leveling curves for the 5-act difficulties) will probably come at Blizzcon.

Inferno was designed to be for end-game max level play. It is currently scaling moster between level 61-63 without monster power or all 63 with monster power. They may not take the option of locking Inferno for level 60s but I would expect them to simply raise the minimum level for entrance to 70. Otherwise only the Incredibly geared players will be able to progress.

I got to agree with Freydal143 I think. If they preserve the intent of Inferno to allow us to farm any Act 1~Act 5 location as endgame, Inferno will be pushed up to Level 70 or higher I feel.
Now, I don't think Hell Act 5 has level 60~69(or even 58~69 for some people) amount of content so I don't know where we'll end up regards to that. There might be a middle ground where Inferno without MP will still have a progress from 65~70, similar to what it has currently, and then starting MP1 everything gets pushed up to 70+.
Judging by D2:LoD, I don't think anyone will have to play Normal or Nightmare Act 5.

There's always the possibility that there's a post-Act IV segment to link the fall of Diablo and Act V and all the Adria, Malthael, etc. goodness. I mean, how much sense would it make to see the defeat of Diablo and suddenly jump to Westmarch for no good reason? There has to be something in between.
Right now Inferno Act I has monsters at level 61, Act II at 62, Acts III and IV at 63. Unless you turn on MP, those are the levels, otherwise all 63. Perhaps without MP levels, the levels will scale accordingly through the latter acts. Turn on MP levels and get whomped if you're just starting. Who knows. Wouldn't be surprised if they change Inferno to something like:
I hope they merge hell and inferno and make it 50-70, and MP enabled for everything level 70. But probably not gonna happen, rather something like inferno = 2 levels per act.
Does anyone remember how Act 5 worked on LoD install? I don't remember having to go back and do Act 5 Normal/Nightmare on my Hell toons, but it's been quite a while for me to say I'm certain.
My best guess would be that Nightmare requires level X, Hell requires level Y. If you have that level requirement, regardless of if you've beaten the previous difficulties/acts, that you'll be able to play where you want.

There was nothing in-between killing Diablo and going to Harrogath in D2. There will probably just be a new portal added for Westmarch at the Crystal Spire next to the angels and your followers. Instead of talking talking to Auriel to complete the quest and end the game, there will be new quest text directing you to the next act.

More likely Hell will be rescaled to reach 70 by the time you complete act 5 (I've seen 1-35, 35-55, 55-70 suggested as the new leveling curve; this is similar to what happened in D2). Then Inferno will be 70-73 on MP0 and 73 across the board with Monster Power turned on, like it is now.

As I recall, pre-xpack, killing Diablo and then talking to Tyrael ended the game. Completing that quest on each difficulty opened up the next one. Once you installed the xpack, if you already had Hell unlocked, then you still did and could go directly to act 5 on any of the difficulties by talking to Tyrael again. All the quests were available on each difficulty, and it was worth doing a few of them all 3 times for the quest rewards.

Diablo 2 worked different in many ways, as you might remember, due to the fact that character max level was much higher than monster level.
As you can see, when act 5 was added they changed almost all the level ranges; everything got stretched a bit (switch to NM 10 levels later, switch to hell 15 levels later), and max monster level got pushed from 78 to 85. (One of the reasons why D2:classic ladder always reached level 99 a bit later.) When you created a non-expansion character, you simply had the old level ranges. With a new character, you would go and play in your suitable area, which at >85 would be Meph/Diablo/Baal anways as they were all 85.
I'm pretty sure they'll do something similar, but they might remove the "choice" as it might fuck up with stash and stuff. My guess is, as soon as you activate the expansion on your B.Net account, the new "shifted" level areas work for you. And you can probably do the 60-70 leveling on Inferno difficulty - depending on how they scale it.
That's an interpretation and we don't like those! It's been stated that difficulties will be talked about on Blizzcon.
Ha. Bagstone.

I am still in favor of ladder seasons being a tracking of paragon xp gained during that season.
