After reading the news article about Hell Unleashed, I decided to give it a try, solo. So after wiping like mad on Duriel with sorceress and a little on Mephisto with necro, I decided to go back to vanilla for a day or two.
But, how do you install two copies of Diablo II? When I launch the setup or autorun, there's just play there, no install.
Ah, I hope that isn't the only way  I'm hoping for something less ...cataclysmic xD
It's real easy, although at the moment it might be a little tricky for you.
1. Have clean install of Diablo II.
2. Copy the entire folder to somewhere else.
3. Install Hell Unleashed in the original folder.
4. Done
Only problem is all character saves will be saved in the original Diablo II save folder, so the characters from both games will be displayd on the character select screen (unless Hell Unleashed changes it's save path, in which case you're fine).
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I know you can play many different versions of D2 and mods.
I believe I had at most was about 13 versions of LoD and mods active at one time.
It can get quite complicated to have multiple versions installed and running. For the most part I use a script launcher to load D2. Some mods will have a special launcher and even an installer to install the mod for you so it does not interfere with your normal D2.
If Hell Unleashed works with PlugY than you can edit the PlugY.ini that is in the Hell Unleashed folder to change the save path for the character.
I can post more in depth instructions or you can PM.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
Thanks for the awesome replies.
In order not to overcomplicate, I figured copy pasting from a different PC to be the best solution. I'ma try that in a day or two.

That may not work out. Diablo needs files in the registry for it to work. If Diablo is installed on the other computer than it should work.
