This build is designed for Season 22 in mind.

In Season 22, Unity or Aquila Cuirass takes the 4th slot.

This build is made for players who still want to use the old Bombardment: Barrel of Spikes playstyle. However, unlike the LoN style, this requires keeping up Akkhan's Champion at all times to stay alive as well as building thorns stacks via blocks (and Punish) for the 2Pc Invoker set. As a result, it's ineffective in group situations where aggro is spread out or redirected to z-players since you cannot build up stacks.

Core:

Movement speed caps at 25%. This includes the bonus from boots and Compass rose (if being used).

Strength for the rest.

Offense:

Cooldown Reduction is the only necessary skill as thorns does not do critical damage.

Attack Speed is still there as it (very slightly) speeds up the animation from casting Bombardment (and Punish if utilizing).

Defense:

Fairly standard.

Utility:

Area Damage and Life on Hit are highly important.

Resource Cost Reduction has no effect when your skills have no cost.

Build Guide

Try to have Thorns on all pieces of gear. Flail of the Charge cannot obtain it; however, do roll off its damage into one of the other recommended stats since Thorns is unaffected by it.

This build heavily relies on having a high block chance to stack up the 2pc from Invoker set to increase the damage done by thorns and skills that rely on it. as such, having max block chance on your shield (20%) plus the 11% block chance from stats, as well as 16% block chance from Justice Lantern, is highly recommended. Hold Your Ground passive there to further increase the block chance (up to 97% with Blood Brother, 92% with Punish skill) as well as increasing the damage reduction provided by Justice Lantern.

This is built with 5 pieces of Armor of Akkhan, 2 pieces of Thorns of the Invoker, and 2 pieces of Captain Crimson's with Ring of Royal Grandeur providing the extra piece for each, providing a substantial boost to survivability.

Over 56% CDR is highly recommended to maintain 100% uptime on Akkhan's Champion.

This is mostly played around high density mobs to keep the 2pc Invoker buff capped as often as possible, which will provide up to an 8750% 900% increase in thorns when at 2510 stacks. This damage is further increased thanks to Norvald's Fervor from the weapon set bonus, which increases damage done by 400% while Steed Charge is active and for 5 seconds after. Use Punish to gain the Hardened Senses and then use Steed Charge while standing in the middle of the pack.

It is highly recommended to use your skills in rotation with CoE: Physical when at max or (close to) Invoker stacks for best damage output.

Gems to use

------------------

Helm:

Flawless Royal Diamond - Helps with achieving the 56% CDR

Weapon:

Flawless Royal Topaz - Thorns is your main source of damage so it is always a must

Armor:

Flawless Royal Ruby - More Damage

Flawless Royal Diamond - More Toughness

Boyarsky's Chip : Again, Thorns is your main damage

Bane of the Trapped : A solid damage increase. You will be right in the middle of the pack so this will always be active per se.

Bane of the Stricken : A must for Rift Guardian as well as certain high HP elites

Bane of the Powerful : An alternative for speeding through lower level GRs if Rift Guardian isn't a problem.
