Build Guide
Hello, DatModz here! Introducing the Season 16 Sunwuko Wave of Light Monk Build. This is a well rounded Solo Pushing/Group Build that works well past Great Rift 120!
Basic Overview
- Maintain your Sweeping Winds buff at 10 stacks, if you are traveling between rifts or waiting for a Rift Guardian to spawn, give the keybind a little tap before it falls off so you don't have to restack.
- Use Mystic Ally when you are almost out of spirit
- On your Vengeful Wind(Weapon) make sure you have one that grants 7 stacks of Sweeping Winds; most of the time a non ancient 7 stack weapon is better than a 6 stack ancient
- When your Convention of Elements gets close to your Fire Rotation, make sure to stand in a Oculus ring circle granted by your Templar for MAX DPS
- Use Dashing Strike to gain 40% dodge defensively and to stand in the Oculus Ring Circles granted by your Templar
- Epiphany on cooldown, be careful since you could have downtime, stay at ranged and use Wave of Light(Slow Effect Granted by your Pinto's Pride Bracers) to create distance between you and the monsters(You are kinda squishy when its down and susceptible to Crowd Control Effects)
- Preferred Stacking Resist: Physical & Fire
- Caldesann's Despair AKA Augments: I recommend going as high as possible 100+ is very easy to achieve this season, each level grants +5 main stat or a level 100 Augment
- The most efficient way to get full Ancient Weapons/Rings/Amulets with ideal stats is using the Kanai Cube Recipe called "Law of Kulle" which allows you to reforge a legendary, it can even turn into a Primal Ancient! *Requires bounties*
Stat Priorities
- Helmet- Socket, Dexterity, Critical Hit Chance, as close to 150% Wave of Light Damage as Possible Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist
- Shoulders- Dexterity, Resource Cost Reduction , Cooldown Reduction, Area Damage Secondary Stats: Health Globe Bonus & Pick-up Radius
- Amulet- Socket, Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, % Fire Skills Increase or Dexerity Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist & Reduction from Ranged/Melee Attacks
- Chest- Socket X 3, Dexterity, Vitality, 11% Reduction from Elites Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist & Reduction from Ranged/Melee Attacks
- Belt- Dexterity, Vitality, 7% IAS & 50% CHD Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist
- Legs- Socket x2, Dexterity, Vitality, Armor Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist & Life after Kill
- Bracers- Critical Hit Chance, Dexterity, % Fire Skills Increase, Vitality Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist
- Boots- Dexterity, 15% Wave of Light Skill, Vitality, Armor Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist
- Gloves- Dex, Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, Cooldown Reduction Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist
- Rings- Socket, Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, Average Damage or Cooldown Reduction Secondary Stats: Stacking Resist
- Weapons- Socket, Dexterity, Cooldown Reduction, Vitality & Life on Hit Secondary Stats: Life after Kill
Alternative Gems/Skills/Items
- Kyroshiros Soul - Use if lazy or doing bounties, auto refreshes Sweeping Winds to prevent stack drops, but you lose damage.
- The Guardian's Path - You drop Near Death Experience so you lose your "OH SHIT" passive but you will have higher passive toughness
- Inna's Mantra - Replace Witching Hour & Crudest Boots for Inna's Belt and Boots, toughness boost while dropping damage
- Esoteric Alteration - Swap out Zei's, Stone of Vengeance, grants a huge non-physical survivability gain
- Bane of the Powerful - Use it in Greater Rifts below 90 (Remove your Bane of the Stricken)

- Weapon - Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker or Azurewrath
- Relic - Enchanting Favor
- Rings - Ring 1: Unity & Ring 2: Oculus Ring
- Amulet - The Ess of Johan
- Shield - Freeze of Deflection

- Helmet: Flawless Royal Diamond(12.5 CDR) Spirit Problems: Flawless Royal Topaz (12.5 RCR)
- Armor: Flawless Royal Diamonds
Ideal Stats
- Health: 700K+
- Armor: 20K+
- Resist All: 1600+
- Critical Hit Chance: 50%+
- Critical Hit Damage: 500%+
- Cooldown Reduction: 50%+

Hi, first thanks for this setup! I've put it together from scratch yesterday, and haven't played monks in months, my stuff is still pretty awfull and yet already clearing GR 80 without a sweat!! nice!
I was asking myself... wouldn't Focus and Restraint be a better choice of rings than unity / CoE? Since we only use a ressource spender to deal damage, we would have a 50% dmg bonus like all the time instead of a 150/200% bonus for 4 seconds every cycle of CoE?
If someone tried and could tell me, that would be sweet. Or I'll wait to drop a decent set of Focus and Restraint and come back to give you my impression ^^

Thoughts on wearing Cindercoat and cubing Crudest boots for the bonus +fire % damage?
Use the unity ring on you and your follower. Make sure you follower has the item and gives it immortality. When you get hit it's 50% less damage.

How much Area Damage is recommended? How much does WoL benefit from it?
Build is good when you have a decent amount of paragon, with 1k paragon for normal player is impossible to clear 110+ gr. Need more explanation how much dmg you need in which gr levels.
for e.g.
GR 90 LVL: ~1.5 mil sheet dmg
GR 100 LVL: ~1.8 mil dmg
GR 105 LVL ~1.8 - 2.2 mil dmg
GR 110 LVL ~ ---------------------
Ofc here is not true numbers but is possible to clear when you get dream rift.
And always some streamers talk about level 110+ clearing but always in video clear 95 or 100 max with 2.5k paragon is absurd.
My ONLY beef with this build that I've noticed is putting Oculus Ring on your Templar and using Zei's Stone. The Templar being in melee range generally places the Oculus Ring pretty close to the packs, which means to utilize it I need to get closer which starts taking power from Zei's. Other than that GG.
Got an issue with this. I play HC. ANd on rift bosses My near death experience sometimes atcivate because my templar gets hit. ( with unity on ). Am I doing something wrong??
do the skills for templer matter?

For your Bane of the Trapped, outfit your Templar to slow and stun. I use Heal, Loyalty, Charge, and Inspire. I put a Thunderfury, Ess of Johan, Freeze of Deflection, Unity Ring, and Oculus Ring on him. Get on that Oculus proc ring as often as you can in higher rifts. I also rolled attack speed on all of his pieces to help proc his thunderfury more often.
Just wondering, is there any way I could tweak the build to make it a support/damage for a Star Pact wizard? Just a couple of adjustments is fine. Thanks!
Does Unity work with your Mystic Ally in dividing damage taken with a party or without?

I used this last season, recommended by a buddy, and did better than I ever had before... Completed my first conquest even. So, I'm posting to thank you for this fantastic build. By far my favorite to date.
On higher GR's would it be better to run Momentum instead of Seize the Initiative for the constant 25% damage boost since mobs start taking so long to kill after you hit that 75% life mark it would no longer be useful especially on rift guardians. I understand you can try to just keep pulling fresh mobs to chain it though if available without dying yourself.
if you're not finding yourself having resource issues, would magefist not be a good dps boost instead of cindercoat for the 20% fire damage? Im thinking this slot is relatively flexible in the cube actuallly, since i was also tossing nem's in that slot as well. Clearing 85's with a very less then optimal stat set on my gear. Once full ancient and proper stat priorities, i see this build doing stupid damage. Literally one shot melting elite packs on gr70's
this build is fun AF!! What ring would you sub out for unity when running with some bros in GR? I'm fairly new to Diablo fwiw
