there's no reason why you couldn't, should work just fine
Any pieces of gear that would be a lateral switch (like a 13900%+ manald) would be able to be traded with the cube. In fact you could argue that going 1000/6/4apoc/socket helm would leave an extra skill on the offhand, and it would be easier to cube the belt, and craft a vitality (or something else) source. Considering a source has 5 rollable stats and and helm has 4, it would be exponentially easier to find the correct helm, rather than the belt and source.
