Build Guide
Quin69 here. Hey boyz!
This is the Uliana's Exploding Palm Monk, which might just be my favourite build in the game. It features explosions everywhere, and is likely to end up being the top build for solo monks this season. It requires as much CDR as possible (without CDR on amulet).
If you wish to play more defensively, you can swap Cyclone Strike for Mantra of Salvation (Agility). This also requires you to use Spirit Guards in cube.
Basic game-play strategy:
- Put EP on enemies, and explode those with SSS.
- Try to gather density by utilising Dashing Strike to engage new enemies and Cyclone Strike to pull them closer.
- Keep in mind that only manually applied EPs deal Area Damage and benefit of Mythic Rhythm, so it is important to gain the Mythic Rhythm buff, then dash over to a new group of enemies, and then spread those EPs using the SSS/Gungdo Gear interaction. You will lose a lot of your damage when not doing this.

Nice! Thanks Quin
Hi,
so, to be sure, if you want EP gains buff from Mythic Rhythm and Area Damage, you must yourself use the EP Bind and not rely on the auto generated EP from the third strike of a Generator, is that it ?
Could be then hard to SSS the good manually applied and not auto generated one to spread or you only auto attack when you have applied EP manually to gain +15% Bonus Damage ?
Thx and have a good season 6 !
but he isn't using the CD rune he is using the Lighting one. Also what Legendary gems is recommended? is it the same as the old build? Also, what is a good ring to use, unity? Thanks.
We punch 3 times, wait for cold rune to pop up then apply ep to a different pack while trying to stay alive? I can't stay alive long enough to make it all happen. It is quite frustrating to play. I prefer innas/generator build for solo. This might be better modified as a group build with zdps support helping you survive. I beat an 80 easily with innas and couldn't beat a 75 with this build.
Need some quality control on this one. The SSS rune is wrong (should be cooldown) and you've got CoE both worn and cubed. I'm assuming one of those should be a unity.
U6 is pretty fun in 2.4.1. I run a slight variation on this with Lefebvre's Soliloquy + RoRG (instead of CoE) and Determination instead of NDE. Throwing an Oculus Ring on a follower is pretty useful with this setup too - dash to the area, cyclone strike, boom.
legendary gems same as S4 and S5?
I use Trapped, Powerful, and Swiftness myself. You could swap either of the latter two for Stricken if you so choose or Esoteric/Gizzard if you wanted more mitigation. I actually think Swiftness fits in pretty well here - more cooldown (which amounts to more damage) and a little more mitigation (thanks to 2.4.1's addition of dodge to the stacks), the attack speed bonus is mostly inconsequential.
The only time Madstone is efficient is for TX farming. It makes it so there's less setup involved for EP but you lose both damage (Assimilate + Mythic Rhythm) and toughness (Spirit Guards) in the process. You won't be doing enough damage or surviving in 65+ with Madstone. It *is* beneficial in a TX or low GR farming setup though as you can just run into a group -> SSS -> everything dies -> move to the next group -> repeat. Unless everything is dying in a single use of SSS, Madstone isn't the way to go.
If you want to try a TX farming setup with it, I'd recommend the following:
-Swap out the Endless Walk set for Avarice Band (with Boon of the Hoarder) and Hellfire amulet and use Goldwrap instead of Binding of the Lost. You won't be standing still long enough to really reap the damage benefits of Endless Walk and you won't need the toughness buff from movement since 1) it's TX and 2) Goldwrap.
-Swap Cyclone Strike (overkill in TX) for Mantra of Conviction - Annihilation (or Mantra of Salvation - Wind Through The Reeds if you prefer).
-Swap Way of the Hundred Fists (since you don't need a generator with Madstone) for something like Breath of Heaven - Zephyr. You can do Blinding Flash - Faith in the Light but it's overkill.
-Swap Mythic Rhythm for Fleet Footed and NDE for whatever... I'd probably recommend Exalted Soul as you can eventually have spirit issues if you're continually spamming SSS (and have no generator), although Momentum is another option.
Something that would probably improve it further that I haven't experimented with yet is incorporating In-Geom. I would probably swap Lion's Claw for In-Geom but you would also need to use Laws of Seph + Blinding Flash for that to work because you're definitely going to burn through spirit. You'd need to swap CoE for RoRG to incorporate Laws of Seph. In the above (non-In-Geom) setup it's decently speedy although slower than WoL. I can't comment on the In-Geom setup as I haven't messed with it yet, but it has potential. Honestly I think WoL is probably just a better choice for speed farming whereas U6 is better for GR pushing, but this is kindof fun to mess around with.
Regarding the SSS rune it's clearly an error - it should be Sustained Attack. The whole point here is being able to use SSS as frequently as possible. Flow of Eternity + decent CDR + Sustained Attack = a SSS cooldown of about 3 seconds.
Where did I say anything about Lefebvre's Soliloquy in that? Lefebvre's Soliloquy is good for U6, but not with Madstone. You can't do Lefebvre's Soliloquy + Madstone + Spirit Guards + Gungdo Gear. The setup I use for GR pushing is Lefebvre's Soliloquy + Spirit Guards (cubed) + Gungdo Gear. If you put in Madstone one of your 50% DR pieces is gone, so yes... it is a toughness loss. For TX farming, the extra DR (and cyclone strike for that matter) are unnecessary, which is why Madstone is viable in that situation.
Again, unless you're one-shotting everything, Madstone is pointless because you're going to be sitting there between SSS casts anyway. If you're sitting there waiting for SSS to come off cooldown (because the enemies aren't dead), you can be using a generator (because you've got nothing better to do at that point) and if the only thing you can do is use a generator... there is no reason to use Madstone because then you're applying EP with your generator.
Is it me or I only can see half of the wishlist ? Most item have disapeared ?
Any tip for HC ?
Why does he have a unity cubed? Just wondering why. I remember the s4 EP build just trying to figure out why people are using it now, in there cube and wearing it.
Awesome as always, thank you man.
Answer to Unity in cube
Being a Solo build you also run a unity on one of the AI offsiders along with a leg (they don't die) relic so effectively you are getting 50% damage reduction.
also play very defensively when your health pot is on cooldown
Keep in mind that only manually applied EPs deal Area Damage and benefit
of Mythic Rhythm, so it is important to gain the Mythic Rhythm buff,
then dash over to a new group of enemies, and then spread those EPs
using the SSS/Gungdo Gear interaction. You will lose a lot of your
damage when not doing this.
What kind of explanation is that?
How do people get so high toughness with those priorities on the gear? I really struggle to get enough to not be oneshot on GR 60.
Edit: Here's my gear with i could break GR60. I died like 8+ times tho. http://www.d3planner.com/357379420
I'm not sure if I'm playing wrong (since my health dropped so fast and often i got pretty hectic) or my gear is just lacking to go further.
Edit2: Ok so changing frostburn to spirit guard helped a lot. But with the setup in the guide i would have no chance at this GR lvl.
Thx in advance for any answer
Its not your fault. This guide was made to generate money, not to help the community. Its very poorly explained. This is actually becoming a big problem on Diablo Fans. Tons of people post terrible half assed guides and then want you to visit some third party site for more info.
Not really. There is the issue of surviving with such low toughness, and whether its better to manually apply EP or spread it with your generator before using SSS. Or how to utilize mystic rhythm for maximum EP damage. This is one of the more complicated builds in the game for maximizing your damage.
As usual with these mass produced guides, there is a serious lack of information outside of "equip this gear and these skills".

You need to do one of two things. Cube either Lefebvre's Soliloquy and start using cyclone strike for the 50% damage reduction. Or cube spirit guards to get the 40% damage reduction from using your generators.
