Thanks to Toetag, here is some useful information:
GEAR:
Shoulders: The Invoker shoulders are probably the best bet for anyone that is using the upgrade to legendary option in the cube. They will always roll with thorns, and legendary affix on other shoulders isn't really that important.
Bracers - Strongarms are also an option. They're useful for groups or for solo if you're running condemn.
Gloves - St. Archew's give a bubble that is extremely useful, especially in higher GRs.
Weapon - Of the 3 main weapons listed, I personally feel that the Switmount is the easiest to farm into a perfect or close to perfect roll. with Swiftmount, you're looking for STR, VIT, CDR, AD, which is 4 stats. Rerolling the weapon damage to one of the stats you need is perfectly fine. With Dombringer, you want PHYS, STR, VIT, CDR, AD, which is going to be more difficult because of the %20 physical being optimal. The Sunkeeper is similar as in addition to the usual, you also need a good legendary property roll. (30% bonus dmg to elites) Swiftmount has a different playstyle than the other two which you may or may not like.
Shield - If you're looking to gamble for a Lidless Wall, use a barbarian. This is because as a crusader, you'll end up gambling for both non crusader shields, as well as crusader shields. Barbs can only roll non crusader shields.
BUILD:
There are many options on how you build. Consecration Bed of Nails, Divine Shield Divine Verdict, LoJ Decaying Strength or Immovable Object, LoH Hopeful Cry, are all good choices for the two slots that can be changed. Those are the Right Click and No. 3 slots on this build.
STATS:
You may not really see your sader take off until you reach enough CDR to make Akarat's Champion active on every physical roll around. I believe that number is 65%. Balancing stats is probably the most difficult aspect of this build as you have to sometimes save a new piece until you can use it without hurting your CDR, Phys, STR, VIT and AD too much. Thorns isn't as important on the armor slots that can't roll 9,500. Ultimately though, you'll want it on as many pieces as possible without sacrificing the more important stats.
GEMS:
Running STR gems or AR gems in your gear is usually going to be a personal choice. Many use a combination of the two as well and do fine.

For T10 use SWIFTMOUNT and for High Greater Rifts use Doombringer

5th passive = INDESTRUCTABLE

Hellfire Neck for 5th Passive gives your 1st death proc, AC - Prophet is a 2nd death proc and Pauldrons of SK is your 3rd death proc so if you are being 1-shot constantly you are obviously running either wrong items for the build or have changed it somewhat to what Drahque has suggested.
Perhaps look at going back to the Punish/Invoker style until you can get higher paragon levels for more toughness and the complete list of required items as this build is more of a long term goal for the season, only the very lucky who sacrifice their children to the RNG goddess kadala are lucky enough to have full ancient HoN Bombarbment items
I love the build, although I don't play seasons, I jumped from GR 50 to GR 72 in a week with this build,
I would like to hear your thoughts on stat priority on a fresh piece, would you roll thorns over vit, cdr and % physical?
This is still a thorns build yes? So is the basic gearing idea to replace the invoker set with the above vanilla ancient legendaries (focusing on thorns/physical/etc), and basically draw your damage from the ring bonus?
On the diablofans page here, it shows Bane of the Stricken, while the D3planner shows Gogok of Swiftness..
Which one should I use ?
Do you update this or the Diablo3 planner more often? Planner shows using judgement and law of valor, but I don't think attack speed or crit really matters for this build? I still can't get an Akarat's Awakening so I'm not sure how well that does at reducing cooldowns, but lidless wall is pretty nice anyway.
To answer Litdaze's question, yes it would be better to have Heart of Iron equipped since it always rolls with thorns as secondary affix but in the end it justs depends if you have it as ancient or if you have Aquila as ancient. If you have both ancient then yes, equipping Heart is the best choice.
Thanks Drahque for the awesome build!
First off, I dunnno, awesome work on everything man. Your spreadsheet literally, I dunno, changed my life, I dunno, but kind of, but not really, but it was awesome, I dunno. Like, I dunno, what are the best follower setups, heh, I dunno. I mean like, I dunno, this is only my second season, I dunno, and like last season I played barb it was like, I dunno, Unity + Follower don't die. So yeah, like what do you think, I dunno.
You think this build would work with Hellfire Amulet having the hold your ground passive?
I think you miss the damagereduction for that to be honest.
I mean it is viable I guess to take the akarat shield with hold your ground but I find that you're still quite easy to kill even if you have everything ancient.
The invoker works because the set gives 50% reduction and then on top of that you have the justice lantern and that works good in combination with the akarat shield and hold your ground.
So in higher rifts you want to get less hit and not more hit.
So what's the priority of Thorns on everything? Say I've got an ancient shoulders with STR/VIT/Armor/Bombardment Damage but no thorns. Do I roll off Armor for Area Damage, or is Thorns more important?
Based on the guide it looks like you're only recommending making thorns a priority on belt.
After spending time trying to build 6 different crusaders since the PTR, invoker, LoN Bomber, Rolands Sweep, Blessed Hammer, LoN Blessed Shield, Akkhan.
I can safely say that LoN bomber has the highest potential pushing GR 90+
I was also very disappointed with the Akkhan set that I didn't even bother finish building one.
Can someone explain to me me why you would go with a lidless wall over a shield like VO'TOYIAS SPIKER? And in the absence of a ancient hellfire amulet should I just use some other amulet that I can just reforge to ancient?
I think it needs to be mentioned that those rings dont give you any benefit without having ancient items. Is there an alternative route to those rings if you arent currently using ancients items?
No room for provoke and based on experience most of the damage comes from bombardment, so the +physical dmg is in my opinion better
So at that point you might as well just use the invoker set with punish, until you get a complete ancient set for LoN+bombardment?
Keep getting killed in 77s just trying to walk around mobs cant figure out why streams make it look like you are more tanky. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Sainix-1500/hero/70990721 something wrong with my gear?
