Build Guide
Hey boyz! Season One & Two - Rank 1 monk (world) here!
In my opinion/experience this build is currently one of the strongest possible monk setups for competitive group greater rift laddering & XP farming.
Please note: I always keep my diablo fans guides up to date and will be making adjustments to the guide whenever there is a shift in endgame meta! so be sure to check back, and vote on the guide!
Raz9r's Math:
Monk generator attacks only lower their FPA (Frames per Attack) at certain attack speed breakpoints. You can look these up using d3planner.com. The fewer frames you need to cast any sequence of either FoT or WothF, the more Flying Dragon uptime you get.
With the recommended attack speed you have slightly more than 90% Flying Dragon uptime, which is about as good as it gets. If you have any more than 24% IAS on your gear (3% Enchantress, 3x 7% IAS rolls), you get above the 5.0 APS cap when Flying Dragon is active, thus diminishing the value of all other IAS as long as Flying Dragon is active (which is more than 90% of the time)
Basic game-play strategy:
- Use Breath of heaven on CD
- Use Dash on a monster every 4 seconds
- Apply/Maintain static Discharge debuff on monsters with FoT
- Attack with WoTF during static discharge debuff (only in AoE, otherwise just attack with FoT for single target)
- Use desert shroud or serenity when required
- Use mantra active when required
Skill variations:
- Serenity - Ascension (alternative to Desert shroud)
- Dashing Strike - Blinding speed (for HC or PE setups)
Legendary Gem variations:
- Pain Enhancer - Swap out Bane of the trapped and drop all IAS off gear etc. (can also replace stricken if you are non-seasonal)
Hellfire Passive/Passive variations in order of power:
- Exalted Soul (Max DPS)
- Near Death Experience (not recommended, good for HC)
- Beacon of Ytar (if you do not have enough IAS to maintain spirit)
Stat Priority:
- Helm: 30% Lightning>Crit>Dex>Vit
- Shoulders: Dex>Vit>15% life
- Torso: x3 Sockets>15% Life
- Legs: x2 Sockets
- Gloves: Crit>CHD>Attack Speed
- Rings: Socket>Attack Speed>Crit>CHD
- Waist: 15% Life>15% FoT Dmg
- Wrist: 20% Lightning damage>Crit
- Boots: 12% Movement speed
- Amulet: Socket>20% Lightning damage>Crit>ChD
- Weapon: Vit=Life on Hit
you want dex/secondary resist on all your pieces(where possible)
People WITHOUT shenlongs fists:
Do not attempt the build without shenlongs set (you will do virtually no damage)

Thanks for the build and the heads up on the stats. Could you also provide a ballpark sheet damage amount to say, complete a solo 70...or something along those lines? I'm trying to get a sense of whether or not I've got the build right, as I'm not seeing crit hits in the billions or even close at paragon 720.
I am sure no one "copied" anyones build, this is a build many were looking into using for a while.
just a question... on how this really works..
1st you need to hold on to Way of Hundred fist. Then use FOT(still holding down WHF?) to debuff every 6 sec? or as many times as possible?
Then use Dashing to proc focus and restraint?
How should i deal with rift guardians? is it still the same way?
Thanks
i understand the how does this build works and its amazing but my question is why using Fist of Fury instead Hand of Lightning? it's bcuz the dash strike or does the holy dmg stacks? i only want to undestand that point
As for Bosses, you should keep using FoT, as it keeps the Static Charge applied to the boss. So:
1- Fist of Thunder: Static Charge
2- Proc Static Charge with Way of the Hundred Fist: Fist of Fury
Hope I helped at least a little, English is not my mother tongue, sorry if I made any mistake.
Noob question, only got full set, not really ancient but I got left fist weapon "gg" as top1 EU so I'm feeling motivated to build this monk till end of season (p800+ atm).
When I'm applying buff I get some sort of static field around, while I dont see that on streams or when Quin plays, instead I get only small amount of static in good density. What is wrong with that ?
Im a begginer, only been playing a few weeks with some friends and Im using this build, best i can anyhow lol. quick question though, How does this build proc both set bonuses on the rings? I dont see a spirit spending attack?
A question of my own tho, for any who might know: would this build still work and be as viable if instead of the raiment 4pc, you only used 2pc and used Uilanna 2pc as well? switching out dashing strike to cyclone strike for a spender (also helps control mob density and if using it's last rune, adds a small heal). might have to use pain enhancer over bane of trapped to cover loss of the dashing strike rune.
how do play this spec with such low cdr?
Sorry if this is a dumb question (new to this site), but why does the stat priority listed below the item not match the stat priority in the build guide? Which one do I follow? (Assuming the guide).
Thank you!
So bottom line if someone can help, if I have 37% increased attack speed and 1.92 APS on sheet just sitting in New Tristram and staring at my detail... how much attack speed increase can I drop to reroll for another stat and still be maximized?
Another Question, why have
when movement speed is second priority for paragon levels? Not sure if I am missing something here, but I thought cap was 25% including items and paragon levels.
I have tried this build and the fire generator build I am level 704 with full ancients on all but hellfire amulet I have only cleared GR 57 struggled on GR 58 I seem to only get flying dragon active less than 50% of the time (sometimes I can watch my info and see 30 seconds or longer of fighting with unadjusted AS over 2 plus aclarity and gogok and seize) and no activation of FD. I suspect this is latency as I sit at 380 ms average (yellow) as I play on Europe but am located in Australia, and aren't keen to rebuild from scratch but I do get 60 ms latency if I select America region as there are now local servers. I see whenever I dash or cyclone or use an ability the animation is a slow and I'm suspect that it's making it impossible for me to progress higher. Is this latency likely to be hampering the flying dragon and progress significantly? Just trying to decide if I give up on my 700 paragons and start from scratch well I'm level 20 paragon in America my profile is http://www.diabloprogress.com/player/jasong-6480
Well, i've been able to make it to 65, but it starting to struggle. I'm only para 620 and only have lph on one shenlong, so that must be whats holding me from going any further at this point. Awesome build though. +1,000,000,000
Bite the bullet and switch man you wont regret it. I have been playing season 4 for 3 weeks, (120hrs playitime) and have 780 Paragon already, its not alot.
