The Ess of Johan
Updated 9/22 - Added some additional Cube options, Paragon priorities and stat priorities on gear.
So this build is designed around farming T7 for bounties or Grift keys. As such, it's not suitable for progressing through Grifts, though you can use it to level a gem to 25 as it can do Grift 35(T7). So on to the build.
Condemn will be your main attack and as such you are going to need Akkhan's, Blade of Prophecy, and Frydehr's Wrath. Because of Kanai's cube you don't necessarily have to have all the pieces. So whatever you have to do to achieve these effects they are required for the build. Another necessity is getting perma AC or at least very close to it. Kanai's can be very useful here and Leoric's Crown as your armor effect is my recommendation as it allows you to achieve perma AC with relative ease. If you happen to be able to do this with your gear then feel free to use another power here. Other suggestions if you can get perma AC without the Crown are Gloves of Worship, Illusory Boots, and Nemesis Bracers.
Ess of Johan is a great choice for your jewelry power because it procs often and helps suck in enemies who like to run or scatter when fighting. I’ll get into skills further down, but I dislike using the Vacuum rune for this build so Ess also helps mitigate that loss.
The weapon slot of Kanai’s I’ve left open intentionally. This is because with good gear you should be able to slay T7 pretty easily so you have multiple choices here that are useful.
- The Furnace - Of course the Furnace is one of the go to things here because of the awesome boost to damage you get against elites. But while farming bounties you don’t always need it and that lessens it’s usefulness a little. Especially since with this build you’ll be able to bypass any Elites you don’t need to fight. If you intend to take on more than T7 or 8 with this you'll probably want the Furnace
- Swiftmount - This is a great choice if you want extra duration on your Steed Charge. If you decide on this, you won’t need Lord Commander so you can take another passive of your choice, like Holy Cause or Righteousness. This is my preferred cube weapon for farming Key Wardens as you often have to ride all over the board looking for them.
- Kassar’s Retribution - Since we’re using Justice this gives you more speed should you require it. Personally, this is the least useful one.
- Baleful Remnant - I like this one a lot because it's hilarious. Mostly because you will always be running around with an army of 8 avatars following you. They deal decent damage at this level too and you get new ones constantly in battle as you are always in AC.
- The Mortal Drama - If you are wearing the Belt of the Trove this is a great choice and one of my favorites. The extra DPS is solid and is definitely noticeable.
My personal cube favorite for doing bounties is probably Mortal Drama with Baleful Remnant being a close second. Both provide good damage to all types of monsters and passively attack monsters you may not be.
Reapers Wraps is BiS for wrists here because of how wrath hungry this build is and since you aren’t using the Vacuum rune, Strongarm’s are far less useful.
For your belt, if you need to use Vigilante to get to perma AC that’s fine, but if you have spare, Belt of the Trove is great because it’s free DPS and hits a decent sized area.
Rings pretty much have to be the Bastions of Will set(Focus and Restraint). The DPS you get from them is really important to being able to deal damage fast enough to make this build worth it.
For Leg gems, Bane of the Trapped is definitely a must for it's free self procing damage bonus. I also like Wreath of Lighting because it gives a speed bonus which is always helpful. Mirinae is another great damage gem and procs a lot like Wreath. It will also help with Elites especially if you took something other than Furnace in your cube. Finally Bane of the Powerful is a good alternative one because it gives a nice damage bonus to both elites and everything else.

Mostly standard stuff here but I'll go through the oddities.
Core - Mov speed until you get to 25% total and then Max Wrath. The more wrath you have the more you can continue to cast Condemn as you run around. Also it will fill up as you run around looking for bounties so you will be able to make use of it. Finally More max Wrath = higher % of return from Reapers.
Offense - CDR obivously, then CHD because I've found it's much easier to get CHC than damage so go for that first. Condemn doesn't depend on AS so it's a non factor.
Utility - Again RCR obviously, but Area damage has been changed and is now much better. Since Condemn is an AoE skill this is free extra damage.
Build Guide
Akarats Champion: Prophet - Pretty standard choice here, damage boost plus survivability.
Condemn: Unleashed - I like this rune instead of Vacuum because this build is really made for farming not progression so there the delay in casting on Vacuum is really annoying and will pull you out of Steed Charge if you cast it.
Steed Charge: Endurance - Another standard choice here for farming, The extra duration is great with all the cooldown from Lord Commander and your gear. You’ll only have a few seconds in between casts.
Provoke: Too Scared to Run - Because of the Wrath hungry nature of the build you’ll need help regening that. Provoke is good because it gives you wrath even when you don’t have anyone around you. The rune keeps them from going too far. Also it draws enemies to you which makes it superior to Shield Glare.
Justice: Sword of Justice - Two reasons for this, first it provides more speed which is always good. Secondly it has a 100% proc coefficient to help keep Wreath of Lightning up.
Laws of Hope: Wings of Angels - Pretty much pure mobility with this skill. Combined with Long Arm of the Law, it gives you a nice boost in your speed.
Long Arm of the Law - See above
Lord Commander - Pretty much only for the Steed Charge cooldown, so if you have Swiftmount as your Kanai, then you can go with Holy cause or Righteousness instead.
Heavenly Strength - Needed for Blade of Prophecy
Finery - A staple of Crusader builds.
So that’s the build. Comment if you have any questions and +1 if you like it! Thanks and happy Farming!
Great guide
I use one of my saders solely for this build's insane speed farming bounties and machines.
Thanks!
Swiftmount is in there. Looking at it though the formatting got screwed up and ran it it together so I fixed it. But yeah, Swiftmount is great as it let's you drop Lord Commander for something else.
Don't have all items yet for this build, and some are on other characters where I'd like too keep them, but it's a very nice build.
Only thing I notice is that wrath seems to be not used at all. Feels a bit like a waste.
But perhaps that is of no importance for this build too.
Ah, of course. I don't have that shield yet.
Build looks great just started my crusader so I'm still farming gear for lower Torments. But what alterations would you make to try and include the sages set? or would you? for deaths breath farming? Saw some great DB farm builds for other classes. and this seems to be the most promising Crusader build for it but with 6 piece ark might not be feesable.
+1
@Komatos: Unfortunately you really have to have that 6 set bonus and since all of the pieces overlap, there is no way to fit it in. But I've discovered that in nephalim rifts, especially with another player elites often drop 2 anyway.
I currently have Belt of the Trove equipped and Mortal Drama cubed.
It really increases the single target damage and besides: Who doesn't love raining meteor every 6-8 seconds? :'D
Not really sure what you mean? The build doesn't do nearly as much damage without the BoP. Whenever you hit another enemy (up to two) the BoP caused them to trigger a condemn blast. Unleashed simply removes the 3 second delay before the blast goes off. If this were a progression build you'd want the Vacuum rune to suck in as many enemies as possible, but since you are spending a fair amount of time running around bypassing enemies being able to instantly cast it saves wrath and your finger from having to constantly press the key.
I don't think you understand how BoP works. If you are using another rune(or no rune) Condemn has a 3 second delay before firing. BoP doesn't trigger this to go off sooner, in fact it has nothing to do with what rune you use. When Condemn goes off regardless of what rune you are using if there are two or more enemies that get hit by the explosion, two of those enemies also fire off a condemn explosion centered on themselves. This is where the condemn build gets it's damage from, because when you are in combat with a pack of mobs every enemy is getting hit by multiple condemn blasts for each single cast you make. Unleashed simply removes the timer and causes it to go off instantly and BoP then causes two enemies hit by it to trigger additional blasts.
Can you do a stat priority on each item please?
Updated with a bunch of additional info
If you didn't need the sword then no one would have used it when the build was the top Crusader build for pushing grifs.
How does he have a two handed sword and a shield...
Also note that this build is multiple patches out of date and a lot of things have changed in that time.
