Build Guide
Instead of the over rated Captain Crimson build by Quin69 (not hating) that almost everyone is using, we WON'T be using captain crimsons set. This frees up head or glove equipment slot to what ever we'd like, and doesn't force us to cube leorics helm or waste a Gem slot on GOGUK to reach 75%+ CDR. Vigilante Belt, Inna pants, and Leorics crown is what we'll be using instead. That gives us an extra 10.5% CDR over users who are using Captain Crimson set -- "But you need the resource reduction bro." I had absolutely no issues with spirit as can be seen in the video.
We also won't be using an immunity amulet BECAUSE WE WON'T NEED ONE! If your dieing with this build, your not geared right. In this video I was using Overwhelming Desire for extra DPS. After further testing Overwhelming Desire, I've come to understand that its... well rather... Underwhelming. I'll be using a Hellfire Amulet now with unity for my 5th passive (Gives a max of 20% dps increase to you, which won't matter, and a 5% damage increase to each ally which is why we'll be using it). If you don't have a Hellfire Amulet, then a Ess of Johan or Flavor of Time.
Cubing Vigilance in your weapon slot is also a complete waste. Although Wall of Man (which is what I use) isn't a staple in the build, its still a better choice (IMO) for surviving. (Wall of Man is a shield that adds 20% dmg reduction for x seconds and procs a lot.)
- Leorics Helm: Socket > Vit > Life Regen > Life %
- Innas Gloves: Cooldown > Resource Reduction > Life Regen
- Innas Chest: Socket > Life Regen > Vit > Life %
- Innas Pants: Socket > Life Regen > Vit
- Crudest Boots: Life Regen > Vit
- Vigilante Belt: Cooldown > Life Regen
- Borns Shoulders: Cooldown > Life Regen > Vit > Life %
- Borns Sword: Cooldown > Resource Reduction > Vit
- Stormshield: Cooldown > Life Regen
- Ring of Royal Grandeur: Socket > Cooldown
- Obsidian Ring: Roll out crit chance for Socket
- Hellfire Amulet: Socket > Cooldown > Life Regen ** Amulet can be changed to anything with utility -- Just don't use an immunity amulet, its a waste!
5th passive's worth looking at if using Hellfire Amulet:
- Unity (+5% addictive damage to allies, very minimal but adds up)
- Sixth Sense (if for whatever reason, your resistance is low, which it shouldn't be)
- Fleet Footed (+10% max move speed. If running with Hota barbs and WD's you'll come to realize your the slowest moving character -- but you can do just fine without this passive)
- Exalted Soul (If your gear doesn't meet the 25% reduced resource requirements)
- Near Death Experience (ONLY recommended if your under geared and having trouble surviving, otherwise, not needed!)
- 75% CDR. Max CDR on every item possible with Leorics Crown.
- 25% Resource reduction (You wont need higher - I sit at 25.3% with zero issues to spirit) 8% on Obsidian Ring and 10% on Borns Sword with 10% in paragon is all you need, which will give you 25.3%.
- At least 1.2~ million HP minimum for anything over 72. The more, the better.
Using Inner Sanctuary: Communication is important. if your looking to push leader boards your going to want to talk via Teamspeak (or similiar). This is crucial as you will have to give a heads up every time your moving out of mobs so the players know to follow and jump into your inner sanctuary. Always try to cast your inner sanctuary at the melee's location once enemies are grouped.
Using Epiphany to teleport: Epiphany teleports you to the enemy on attacks. So you'll be using your cyclone strike to warp to your allies inside enemy crowds, and out of mobs to move on. This can be done by clicking cyclone strike on an enemy outside of the group you have pulled around you. This can get very tricky at time and you will get stuck. Go Practice.
Using Cyclone Strike: Don't SPAM this skill, instead use it every 2~ seconds to keep mobs grouped. Be careful where you click when casting it, because if Epiphany is up (which it should be) you'll teleport to them, and probably drop your sanctuary away from your team mates.
Using Mantra and Blinding Flash: Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam! All day, everyday! Even if there are no mobs around, spam these! I mash these 2 skills from start of the rift til the boss dies.
Get big groups together: Don't stick around to fight a few mobs (Unless its an elite who's about to die). Try to lure enemies into the biggest room of the area, and have yellows follow you, or skip them completely.
Know when to advance: Arcane will be the groups worst enemy. The affix is especially nasty when combined with other affixes and big amount of enemies around you. This is a good sign that you should cut your loss and skip to the next group. When there's about 5-10 mobs left (depending on mob type) its usually about that time to move on to the next horde of mobs.
Know when to res: If your playing 2 man, resurrecting should always be a priority once buddy dies. 3-4 man is different. Trying to res a team mate as the ZPDS Monk can get your other team mates killed. If you have to res, make sure you cast a fresh inner sanctuary for your team mates that are alive, res, then warp back to your other team mates with epipany + cyclone strike combo and quickly drop another inner sanctuary -- This could be done before the original inner sanctuary has expired, which gives you a 6 second window to successfully rez and get back into position. If your attempting a res and keep getting interrupted, or its taking to long, ditch the attempt and warp back to other allies to drop a inner sanctuary.
Captain Crimson and immunity necklace is not the only option you have for equipment, nor should it be a requirement for it. Play around with the equipment setup, try new things. See what works and what doesn't work for you. As far as I know, there's only the legendary gem and lions claw for monk in seasonal, so I would assume the build would remain unchanged. I'm tweaking this build as I go and I'll change it every now and then.
You can see the build here on d3 planner: http://www.d3planner.com/222307922
I have a vigilante belt with dex/vit/life/cdr and a secondary resist. What should I roll off to get the lps
I havn't tested Freeze of Deflection or Eun jang do, but I'm almost sure the cc nerfes from 2.3 will make them not worth it. If eun jang do works the way it use to before 2.3, then def eun jang do.
Ether way, I think Eun jang do is worth testing out. I'l give that a shot in 75+ once I get the chance
You don't make note except on the external link of the gems you would use.
Molten Wildebeast Gizzard, Esoteric Alteration and Gem of Effecious Toxin or however you spell them
Good eye, thanks!
I'm not sure what happened, but 1 day i logged on and all the skills, passive and cubes were blank. I re put in those and just didn't notice the gems went blank too.
