WARNING : this version is ment for high greater rifts, this build is not as efficient at easy content like torment 6, for an extremely efficient T6 whirlwind spec, check out http://www.diablofans.com/builds/53881-t6-speedfarm-whirlwind-ik-bk
The items for this build are relatively set in stone, except for 1 ring, amulet, and bracers.
You need Immortal king Weapon and Belt, and you need The wastes set Shoulders.
Between gloves/helm/chest/legs/boots, you need 1 IK piece and 4 waste pieces.
One ring has to be the ring of royal grandeur and I definitely recommend unity for the second ring, although stone of jordan or convention of elements is a decent choice if you prefer some more damage, or if you're running in a party.
The best amulet is either a hellfire maulet or an immunity amulet, no other amulets really have useful legendary effects for the build.
The best bracer is either one of the bracers that roll attack speed, or reaper's wraps to keep up max fury easier.
Take physical damage % on bracers, and possibly on the amulet ( Physical - crit chance - crit damage - socket ), although physical or strength being better on the neck is debatable, exspecially if the necklace is ancient. Physical damage % will give you more damage than strength, but strength is also giving you a lot of toughness in the form of armour.
Life and vitality rolls are pretty good as our healing from the whirlwind rune is based on life %, and we have room for a life gem in the helmet since we don't need CDR at all, making us able to get a pretty high amount of life.
The 3 best legendary gems are Baned of the trapped, Taeguk and Pain enhancer, For damage I can't imagine any other combination being stronger damage wise, although a very high rank Esoteric Alteration could be a swap for the bane of the trapped gem if you want to become even more tanky.
If you want to go really advanced, here's the whirlwind breakpoints : http://i.imgur.com/3BmaOqd.png
What this means is , to give a random example. Having 2.25 Attacks per second is exactly the same for whirlwind as having 2.40 attacks per second, as they're in the same breakpoint range. At those points you can either drop some attack speed without losing aything, or get some more to hit the next breakpoint.
The reason why the breakpoint thing is hard to balance for this build is because of pain enhancer, what some people like to do is to balance the breakpoints around havingg one stack of pain enhancer, so they're balanced for the rift guardian.

Build Guide
After testing multiple whirlwind versions I believe this is currently the strongest whirlwind build in the game
The build is godlike at clearing trash mobs and is pretty slow at rift guardians, getting to really high Greater rift records is going to require some praying to RNGesus, certain rift guardians will go much slower than others. I can consistently clear GR47's without Requiring RNG, using a very bad gearset. With close to best in slot gear this build will be able to consistently clear GR50 and With great pylons, rift Guardian, and mob type/density, I fully expect somebody to push 56-57 with this build.
The gameplay is honestly pretty damn simple, you keep whirlwinding to keep up your taeguk gem and your 40% damage reduction from the wastes set, generally you never drop whirlwind during an entire rift, except for long dead ends.
Whenever you're in the middle of a pack, drop a rend, this has two reasons, it's a nice extra damage source as it's greatly amplified by the 2 set wastes bonus, and it also counts as a fury spending attack, which triggers the immortal king 4 set bonus and reduces the berserker/ancients cooldown by 3 seconds for every 10 fury spent. Using only whirlwind will NOT spend enough fury to keep berserker up constantly, you have to rend to keep it up, so sometimes it's worth it to rend targets that are already bleeding, just to spend some more fury to lower your cooldowns, You'll eventually get used to this and find a balanced amount of rending to keep up Your super saiyan mode while not dropping too much in fury. Having 800 paragon for some free cooldown reduction in paragon also helps a bit, but I don't recommend ever dropping the life% gem in the helm or crit/attack speed to get CDR.
Battle rage only once every 120 seconds, battle rage is not an attack so it will not trigger your IK 4 set, you only use it for the buff.
Use warcry whenever the buff is about to fall off or whenever you're falling below max fury. Warcry is not an entirely mandatory skill for this build though, some people prefer running sprint or Overpower - killing spree.
Ancients are cast once, and only need to be recast when they die.
Wrath of the berserker should be kept up at all time, never let it fall off.
heh yeah sorry should have clarified that it was my seasonal character. What exactly is it thats stopping you? are you not beating the timer or just dying to much? It looks to me like you have the gear to easily do upper 40's at a minimum. para is a little low but good enough. need ancient helm/gloves for a little boost there, I assume you chose the fire amulet just cause of the CHC/CHD rolls? couple of things after checking your armory:
#1 i would get rid of swords to ploughshares and run bloodshed, huge dps boost and you dont really need the extra health globes outside of maybe the guardian, and even then not really. just keep the density pretty good and you'll do just fine on fury.
#2 last night i tried dropping nerves of steel in favor of brawler, and i love it. having NoS is nice but isnt really needed with how easily you can move out of things since you have no collision detection while channeling WW. Pick your spots well and this will help out a lot. Reward far out weighs the risk here. imo
just keep in mind, the more health you have, the more WW heals you for. and KEEP the density as thick as you can, rng providing of course. this build thrives on chaos

video from my stream, just made it quick to show, not the full run that thats the 52 clear i had. im at work so couldnt trim it down well lol anyway you can see that my fury stays more or less capped. some dips here and there, but you dont need 100% uptime on it. I also never said using rend 6-7 times was fun or smooth gameplay, cause its not, i hate it, just what has to be done

theres my profile with my barb (male seasonal named fire) and my templars gear set up and skills. I use heal btw
Yeah i noticed after that your seasonal hero that you are talking about I should take back my words
First of all thanks for your reply mate.
I finished 47 at 13:47,this is my record but i was little lucky, the problem that i have is that i cant finish in time.I tried 48 1 time and its really hard to survive,as you said maybe i need really more ancients to boost my hero.(str and vit)
I choose the fire amulet because i dont have any better amulet to use,i rolled really good as u said,if i change with '' mara '' im loosing a lot of CHC and CHD thats why i cannot replace it.
#1 Im gonna try now your advice.
#2 Same for this,im gonna try it too but with those items maybe nerves of steel is still the best choice for me.Because with WAR cry active i have 25m toughness and for 45+ 25m tougness will not be enough.
Thanks a lot one more time for your reply!
ps:Sorry for my english, its not perfect,i hope i could express clearly.
yeah on the subject of nerves of steel, I just switched from it last night, so its a very viable passive to have, just kind of some food for thought as far as squeezing in some extra toughness. Im at work so i cant see what my toughness is with warcry but i dont think its much higher than yours is, i know full taeguk stacks, WoTB up, and channeling WW im usually at 90m+ toughness, but again just things to think about when trying to squeeze out the numbers for that next progression level. I would 100% start gambling helm/gloves for ancient items, would def help.
Hope you are able to continue to progress a little further up the GR rankings. Happy hunting!
funny how you think ppl have fury problems on big grps of mobs, when its really only a problem at the boss......
On the IK 2h weapon, 10% vs 7% ias? I currently have 10%. Who can help me out?
Hey there, would you be able to advise on how much toughness one needs to get into 35-40 and 41 upwards?
i have the entire gear set as stated above.
I clear 31 in about 2-3 mins, but when it comes to the 41, i just flat out die.

Would appreciate any and all help.
#1 sadly, rift fishing is still a thing, if you are struggling with the damage taken, unity is more than acceptable to use
#2 Maras amulet. you can also run lightning, but imo maras is the best thing to use.
#3 i went over this earlier but i dont run nerves of steel. while using it allows you to be a little more aggressive, and once it procs you play a little more conservative till its back off cd, I personally would just rather run brawler and blow shit up.
tip: esoteric gem is pretty damn amazing instead of using pain enhancer. gives you much more "tankyness" and helps out a lot, allows you to stay in battle longer which in turn allows you to heal more. again more things to play with
As far as my tests have shown % ww does seem to have an affect on dust devils. Not the best test because gear was different as opposed to simply rerolling. But seems that way to me. As such it leads me to wonder if the priority on helm is really ideal. the % life socket vs 15% ww damage seems a tough call.

I simply cannot get passed grift 45. I try and try again. For whatever reason, my damage seems pretty low to the video's "garbage" gear. Any advice/tips? Thank you!
Hey, thank you for the pointers! I know about the amulet...no good luck with drops.
When pushing grifts higher, I use unity over my awesome coe. Surprised you got that far without it. From my experience, you want a 50% reduction from one of two places. Wotb Rune or from Unity. I would never have gotten to 51 without it. In fact, I wont even enter a 40+ without it. Of course, if you are in a group, unity is out of the question, so adjust to your group on whether you need striding giant. Side note, you shouldn't need weapons master with reapers wraps. I personally use the rune with battle rage to make health globes drop like candy then make up the damage with a passive like rampage which also helps survivability.
Choice 1: Coe + striding giant rune.
*Able to predict and burst with coe buff. Very hard to recover from a death since your mitigation requires wotb off cooldown. Less room for error with wotb uptime.
Choice 2: Unity + Insanity rune.
*More steady damage across the board. 50% damage at all times but you cant predict a burst. Faster recovery from wipe since you already have your 50% reduction you wont get instagibbed as easy. Wotb falls off for a couple seconds is NOT the end of the world.*
Either way the choice lands with a 50% damage 50% reduction. From your link, you are going 100% damage and committing suicide.
Vuhjj,
I've heard that a couple times before. Maybe it's just luck I've gotten this far haha. I didn't know about Unity (or my follower) for a long time. That probably played a part in it as well. I currently have one Unity ring for my follower and I'm on the look out for a second for myself. I would like to see how well that holds out. In the interim, I'll be modifying my build to your recommended Choice #1. I'm still pretty new to theorycrafting and like to go "glass cannon" apparently. After work I'll be giving 40+ grifts another go.
Thanks again

can someone gear checkme please i can't get past 45+ G Rifts and i feel really squishy whenever it comes to physical or elemental damage by elites.
1. Take the CDR from shoulders and turn it into life. You don't need cdr. If you are going to enchant something, try a bit harder than 11% ww damage to boots and 41% crit damage to gloves as you are pissing damage away.
2. Get a reapers with physical damage instead of an element you don't use.
3. Scroll back to the top of this page and relook at runes and passives cause you are all mixed up. Your healing is supposed to come from blood funnel not blood lust. Your fury is supposed to come from ancients, not from wind shear.
4. Level your gems. As far as I can tell from that, you should be pushing into gr40, not 45. Keep your main 3 up to date.
You honestly didn't need a gear check as much as you needed to scroll up.
uhh yea my bad my profile char hasn't updated yet but my character right now has all the same runes as above but i replaced all my Str gems with AR and for rend i used bloodlust since i was dropping a lot of health.
fair enough but parts 1 2 and 4 still apply.
As for getting railroaded.
Start off slow until you get your taeguk stacks up there.
Dont rend immediately in the center of a pack you just engaged, you stop wwing for a split second and will get creamed.
Despite what guide says, lvl your paragon life on hit.
Accept that it is often better to skip an elite pack entirely or even just kite the thing tossing tornados back until they are ready to die.
Actually equip the 2nd unity on your templar.
Look into a thunderfury for him, i like it.
How are you able to survive the damage on GR 50+? I end up having to use unity plus together as one or else the damage is too insane
you shouldnt at all need to use together at one, i can check otu your gear if you want, but you shouldnt need anything other than unity plus 40% from 4 set, maybe esoteric but thats all you should need
