Halo of Karini
This is currently the #1 build on the solo Wizard leaderboard for season 16. The current top clear is GR 121.
Season 16 is the "Season of Grandeur", this means everyone gets the Ring of Royal Grandeur passive automatically. This allows for the Tal Meteor build to use Endless Walk as well as keeping both Convention of Elements and Halo of Karini.
For the highest GRs, every single item is mandatory, no questions. If you look at the top of the leaderboards you will see these exact same items every time. There are only a few minor variations, which will be covered below.
This build is the highest damage build for a solo wizard. After the 2.6.4 buffs LoN Meteor is extremely strong, but specifically during the Season of Grandeur Tal Meteor is better since it allows use of both Endless Walk and Tal Rasha sets, for a whopping +16,000% multiplier!
Notes on items:
Blood Bracer doubles Galvanizing Ward for a huge shield, which more than doubles your life (+120% to be exact, with a perfect blood bracer). It also doubles the shield from your Magic Weapon [Deflection], which gives you +8% life per hit (with a perfect blood bracer).
You may be wondering: why both Ray of Frost + Arcane Torrent? For a few reasons:
- You need both an ice and lightning spell for Tal Rasha
- Ray of Frost [Cold Blood] is the cheapest channeling ability that wizard has, at 11 arcane power. This is important so that you don't fall below 90% arcane power so that Aquila stays up. BUT, it doesn't pierce. That's where Arcane Torrent comes in:
- Arcane Torrent allows channeling while targeting a specific monster
- Ray of Frost slows the enemy, which procs Bane of the Trapped from a distance for more damage (better for single targets)
Halo of Karini + Aquila + mantle of channeling for toughness. Taeguk also offers a substantial armor boost while channeling. Finally, endless walk gives up to 50% more DR as you move. You can easily get over 600B toughness altogether with these.
Mantle of Channeling, Nilfur's Boast, Deathwish, Grand Vizier, and Etched sigil offer massive meteor mutlipliers on top of Tal Rasha + Endless Walk for the biggest damage build that Wizard has.
Finally, Convention of Elements offers a further +200% damage during the fire rotation
Rolls
+20% fire on both amulet and bracer (but finding a trifecta traveler's pledge will be tough)
+15% meteor on Helmet, Boots, and Source. Very important if you plan to push the leaderboards!
Max crit chance and Max crit damage on everything that can get it. That includes:
- Rings (6% crit chance each, 50% crit damage each)
- Amulet (10% crit chance, 100% crit damage)
- Gloves (10% crit chance, 50% crit damage)
- Bracers (6% crit chance)
- Helmet (6% crit chance)
- Source (10% crit chance)
- Paragon (5% crit chance, 50% crit damage)
- Emerald in Weapon (130% crit damage)
If you had perfect crit chance on everything, you would have 64% crit chance total. If you have perfect crit damage, you would have 480% crit damage total.
Arcane Power on Crit is required for your source! This is mandatory so that you don't fall below 90% resource while channeling your Ray of Frost which keeps your Aquila active.
Area Damage - extremely good if you were doing the Star Pact build, but for Meteor Shower, AD isn't worth it since it doesn't proc on the Etched Sigil meteors. Don't bother with Area Damage for this build!
Resource Cost Reduction - very good for channeling and for your manually casted meteors. Get this on Shoulders if you can.
Defense rolls - priority is Vitality -> Armor -> Life%. You can get all 3 on the Tal Rasha chest since it gets an extra stat (roll off the attack speed).
Variations
Normally people cube Karini and wear CoE since getting 80% damage reduction is far more important than getting 200% on CoE. But, if you happen to find a godly Karini, you can wear it and cube CoE instead for that extra fire damage.
Until you need Stricken, use Zei's instead. While using Zei's, use Power Hungry passive. While using Stricken, use Audacity passive.
Unstable Anomaly is always good for high GRs, but since this build is for the very top of the leaderboards, that has been discarded in favor of Elemental Exposure for an extra +20% damage. You will need to rely on your Ray of Frost + Teleport along with your Illusionist passive to get out of dangerous spots.

Paragon Notes
Movement Speed - always roll off MS from boots and Compass Rose, the extra stat you can get from these is worth way more than 50 paragon points!
Max Resource - you want this for Tal Meteor, more arcane power = easier time staying above 90% for Aquila.
Everything else is standard (and it won't matter as you approach paragon 800 anyway)
Build Guide
How to play the build
1. ALWAYS HAVE TAL 6SET UP! This is most important. For Tal'Rasha, you need to first get to 4 stacks by casting each ability. You don't have to hit with the ability to get a stack. Once you have 4 stacks, you only need to cast 2 abilities to refresh it.
2. Tal 4set - this is different than 6 set. It requires casting AND hitting with all 4 abilities to maintain! It also does NOT have a buff icon like the 6set ability. Make sure to cast and hit with every ability at least once every 8 seconds!
3. Breakpoints. You don't need to worry about breakpoints, the optimum APS for channeling Etched Sigil is 1.54 APS, which you can exactly get to with 50 paragon points in attack speed. BUT, make sure you roll off attack speed on your Tal'Rasha chest! Any additional attack speed = higher drain on your channeling abilities.
General playstyle:
- Most damage comes from Etched Sigil meteors. BUT, you can also manually cast meteor as well, and you should, but only once ever 3 seconds or so. Any more than that and you will interfere with your etched sigil meteors. Also, make sure to resume channeling immediately after casting meteor so that you get your buffs from Deathwish/Etched Sigil/Mantle of Channeling when the meteors land (as well as keeping up Taeguk stacks).
- When you have max crit chance and you have 4 APoC on source (you definitely want 4 here, not 3), Arcane Torrent becomes more efficient to channel since it will crit more often
- Use Teleport for calamity stuns, as well as repositioning yourself without wasting Endless Walk buff. If you get surrounded, start mashing teleport to get away.
- Against single-targets, make sure you step away every few seconds to refresh Halo of Karini buff.
- make sure you are fully channeled with 10 taeguk stacks as you approach the end of your ice rotation on Convention of Elements. This ensures you have maximum damage during the fire rotation.
Could you please explain how the build works in terms of skill rotation? Thanks!
You just have to keep magic weapon and storm armor up. Your main attack skill will be ray of frost, but you have to eventually hit with the others elements too (meteor and arcane torrent) so you keep tal rasha's buff up. Also try to keep your arcane power full for the aquila cuirass protection. If you are doing it right you'll notice that elemental exposure will get 4 stacks.
In therms of behavior, you just teleport to the creatures (stunning them) and attacking them cose range.
