"Retry creating D3D device" solution

  • When I went to start up Diablo today, I ran into this "Retry creating D3D device" error. After a little research on the forums it appears the only reccomended solution was to clear your D3Prefs.txt file. That didn't do it.

    Turns out an update I had installed earlier today for a Targus USB 3.0 docking station was the cause. The software is called "DisplayLink" (http://www.displaylink.com). After uninstalling both parts (there were two entries in add/remove programs) Diablo is running fine again.

    I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the dock though...

    I'd venture to say "DisplayLink" isn't supported for use in Diablo III.

    The manufacturer isn't really recommending it for gaming as well.
