    User Interface
    • The UI for character skills has been greatly improved.

    Bug Fixes

    • Breaking News will now properly display when launching the game client.
    • The victory text for completing the Diablo III beta will now only appear after the Skeleton King’s death animation has fully completed.

    • Monk
      • Fixed an issue with Dashing Strike where casting it would sometimes cause the character to become stuck performing the ability repeatedly, at no resource cost.

    • Wizard
      • Helm icons will now properly display for both male and female characters.

    • Act 1
      • New Tristram
        • Fixed an issue where the southern gate out of New Tristram would not be open for all characters on the quest "The Fire From the Sky: Talk to Leah Inside the Inn."
        • Fixed an issue that did not properly remove a character’s waypoints and checkpoints when restarting the beta after killing the Skeleton King while on the quest "Reign of the Black King."

      • The Hidden Cellar
        • Leah has received adequate weapons training and will now properly fire arrows from her bow during this scene, rather than from her feet.

      • Chancellor's Tomb
        • The portal in the Chancellor's Tomb returning you to the Defiled Crypt is now correctly labeled.

      • Leoric's Passage
        • Players will no longer receive error messages when cancelling out of the cutscene for the quest "The Legacy of Cain: Save Deckard Cain."
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 3 – v.
    Released 9/14/11

    • Public Games are once again available to players. To help us test this automated matchmaking feature, click on "Campaign" and then select "Public Games."
      • The number of characters playing the selected public quest will now display in the Public Games menu.

    • The Diablo III Auction House is coming soon! During the beta launch of this system, the following features will be enabled:
      • Gold-based equipment exchange
      • Bid, auto-bid, and buyout functionality
      • Slot-based search filters
      • Toast notifications to track auction progress
      • The ability to put items up for auction directly from the shared stash
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 4 – v.

    Bug Fixes
    • Fixed a number of game and service crashes
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 5 - v.0.3.1. 7728
    Released 11/3/11

    • All characters have been wiped. As part of this process, artisans, gold, and items (including those placed on the auction house or in a shared stash) have also been reset.
    • Switching out class skills will now require the use of a new feature known as the Nephalem Altar. Nephalem Altars are currently located in New Tristram, as well as in key locations throughout Act I. Clicking on an altar will open up the skill UI, allowing both active and passive skills to be selected or exchanged.
    • The Cauldron of Jordan is no longer available in beta content. It will be rewarded to players at a higher level in the game.

    • Gold rewarded from quests has been significantly reduced
    • Experience rewarded from quests after level 4 is now based on the number of mobs you’d have to kill to earn the same amount of experience, rather than being a strict percentage of a level

    • New passive skills have been added for all classes. See individual class notes below for more information.
    • AoE (Area of Effect) skills for all classes have had their damage reduced
    • Single-target skills for all classes have had their damage increased
    • All skills are now based off weapon damage

    User Interface
    • The in-game UI has been updated with general art and usability improvements


    • Active Skills
      • The Barbarian's Fury Generators have received a tuning pass. Bash, Cleave, and Frenzy now generate more Fury whereas the other Fury Generators now generate less.
      • Additional changes include:
        • Battle Rage
          • Damage bonus reduced from 30% to 20%

        • Revenge
          • The chance for this ability to activate has been increased from 10% to 15%

        • Weapon Throw
          • Fury cost reduced from 20 to 10
          • Damage decreased from 210% to 180%

      • Passive Skills
        • New passive skills have been added:
          • Nerves of Steel
            • Unlocked at level 12
            • Your defense is increased by 25% of your Vitality

    Demon Hunter
    • General
      • Maximum Hatred reduced from 150 to 125

    • Active Skills
      • The order in which skills are awarded has been adjusted for levels 1 to 13.
      • Resource management for the Demon Hunter has been reworked significantly. Skills for the class now fall into the three categories: Hatred Generators, Hatred Spenders, and Discipline Spenders
      • Additional changes include:
        • Bola Shot
          • On-hit damage increased from 100% to 105%

        • Chakram
          • Damage reduced from 150% to 135%

        • Grenades
          • Damage increased from 75% to 80%

        • Hungering Arrow
          • Damage increased from 115% to 145%
          • Pierce chance is once again a fixed 35% rather than scaling with level

        • Impale
          • Impale has been given a new spell effect. It is now a thrown dagger instead of a bow shot.

        • Rapid Fire
          • Damage increased from 35% weapon damage per shot to 38% weapon damage per shot

        • Shadow Power
          • Attack speed bonus reduced from 50% to 30%

        • All Mantras now have a 15 second cooldown and grant a bonus effect for the first 3 seconds after activation

    Witch Doctor
    • Active Skills
      • All Witch Doctor skills now do damage based on your weapon damage and cast at a speed based on your weapon attack speed.

    • Passive skills
      • New passive skills have been added:
        • Circle of Life
          • Unlocked at level 12
          • Whenever an enemy dies within 12 yards there is a 5% chance that a Zombie dog will automatically emerge

        • Jungle Fortitude
          • Unlocked at level 10
          • Reduces all damage taken by you and your pets by 20%

    • Active Skills
      • The order in which skills are awarded from levels 6 to 13 has been adjusted. Players will now unlock offensive and defensive spells in an alternating order.
      • All Wizard skills now do damage based on your weapon damage and cast at a speed based on your weapon attack speed.

    • Passive Skills
      • New passive skills have been added:
        • Critical Mass
          • Unlocked at level 12
          • Your critical hits reduce the cooldown of your spells by 1 second


    • Skills
      • Guardian
        • Ability now unlocks at level 20, instead of level 5

      • Heal
        • Healing provided by this ability will now scale properly
        • When activated, ability will heal you for ¼ of your total health every 15 seconds
        • Will only heal when player is below 50% health, down from 67%

      • Intimidate
        • Slow amount reduced from 80% to 50%

      • Intervene
        • Intervene is the new name for Taunt, and now unlocks at level 5
        • Radius of monsters to be taunted reduced from 30 to 10 yards
        • Duration reduced from 10 seconds to 5 seconds
        • Will now only cast when player is below 50%
        • Cooldown increased from 15 seconds to 30 seconds

      • Loyalty
        • Life regenerated by this ability will now scale properly


    • Players now start with 5 health potions
    • Health globes now heal you over 1.5 seconds rather than over 5 seconds
    • The number of chests, shrines, and other interactable items (e.g. bookcases and loose stones) has been greatly reduced across the entire game
    • Items sold from vendors will now be at least one item level lower than those that are currently available to a player via drops from monsters
    • The level of an item is now much more likely to match or be close to the level of the monster from which it dropped, and the affixes that appear are much more likely to be from the upper range

    • Several significant changes have been made to weapons and weapon damage affixes:
      • The damage bonus granted to two-handed weapons over one-handed weapons has been reduced from 15%-38% from level 1-60 to 13%-32%
      • Wands attack speed has been increased from 1.2 to 1.4
      • Quivers, Orbs, and Mojos will now always come with +Min/Max damage
      • Ceremonial Daggers will now frequently come with +Mana Regen
      • Wands will now frequently come with the +Max Arcane Power

    • The amount of inherent slow granted by cold weapons has been reduced from 3 seconds to 1 second
    • One-handed crossbows and daggers now pull from a separate pool of affixes for + damage
    • The damage variance between weapons of the same type has been reduced.

    Bug Fixes
    • Fixed an issue that was causing two-handed Monk combat staves to not receive the proper damage bonus


    • A new Mortar affix has been added to the game. Mortar monsters will lob grenades at enemies outside melee range.
    • Lightning bolt damage from Electrified-enchanted monsters has been reduced by 40%
    • Monsters that are enchanted to an element (Molten, Electrified, etc.) now correctly have 50% resistance to their chosen element
      • Ex: Molten monsters will have 50% damage resistance to Fire at equal level

    • Wretched Mothers in Act I can now only summon one zombie at a time
    • Treasure Goblins are now immune to fear

    • Skeleton King
      • Whirlwind damage increased from 100% to 300%
      • Cleave damage increased from 80% to 100%


    • Blacksmith
      • Blacksmiths now start with a Fist weapon and a Dagger weapon option to craft
      • Blacksmith leveling and crafting recipes have received a tuning pass

    • Pages of Training will now drop starting at level 6, down from level 8
    • The chance for Magic and Rare items to salvage into higher quality crafting material has been increased from 1% to 5%
    • Salvaging blue items now has a 1% chance to salvage into Legendary crafting material
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 6 – v.
    Released 11/17/11


    Auction House
    • Stackable items can now be purchased and sold on the gold Auction House. These items can be purchased in any quantity, provided that the quantity is available for sale, and will pull from multiple auction listings if needed.

    • Player profiles have been added! These profiles will display important statistics for each of your characters, as well as 3D models featuring their current gear.
      • Player profiles will only be viewable while in the main, character select, and party screens. They will not be viewable in-game.
      • To access your player profile, click on your hero or press "P."
      • To view other players' profiles while in a party, right-click on their character. Player profiles for Real ID friends can also be accessed by right-clicking on their names in the Friends List.

    • Achievements are now available for testing. Please note that for the beta launch of this system, only a limited number of achievements have been included.
      • To view your characters’ achievements, click on the "Achievements" icon located in the lower right or press "Y" at any point while playing.
      • To view another character’s achievements while in a party, right-click on their character and select "Inspect."


    • Active Skills
      • Blinding Flash
        • Spirit Cost reduced from 30 to 10
        • Blind duration increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds
        • Now has a 15 second cooldown

      • Crippling Wave
        • Damage reduced from 135% to 110%

      • Dashing Strike
        • Damage increased from 65% to 160%

      • Exploding Palm
        • Explosion damage reduced from 40% to 30% of target’s max health

      • Fists of Thunder
        • Damage reduced 120% to 100%

      • Inner Sanctuary
        • Spirit Cost reduced from 80 to 20
        • Now has a 30 second cooldown

      • Lashing Tail Kick
        • Damage increased from 180% to 225%
        • Cooldown removed

      • Lethal Decoy
        • Damage increased from 110% to 330%
        • Duration reduced from 5 seconds to 1 second
        • Decoy is now summoned directly on top of the Monk
        • Ability now plays a casting animation

    • Active Skills


    • Monster affixes "Die Together," "Powerful," and "Ghostly" have all been removed from the game
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 7 – v.
    Released 12/1/11

    • A trial version of the Diablo III Currency-Based Auction House is now available for testing. To learn more about how this feature will work in the beta, please review the FAQ.
    • In order to fully test the Currency-Based Auction House and its features, all characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, achievements, followers, and artisans.

    Bug Fixes
    • The Blacksmith will now properly unlock for all players after completing the quest "A Shattered Crown: Talk to Haedrig Eamon"
    • Fixed an issue with viewing Achievements while in a Public Game
    • Fixed an issue where players in a Solo Game were being kicked by a "party leader"
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 8 – v.
    Released 12/15/11

    • Battle.net BattleTags are now live! To learn more about BattleTags and how to set up yours today, check out the official FAQ. Please note that in order to log into the Diablo III beta, you must create a BattleTag via Account Management.
    • Due to a change in the way we store character data, all characters have been wiped. This wipe will also affect gold, achievements, followers, and artisans.
    • Achievements have been temporarily disabled and will not be available again until a future patch. During this time, characters will be unable to earn new achievements or complete any additional objectives of achievements in progress.
    • Players will now see recommended items for their active character when accessing the auction house Search tab.


    • Active Skills
      • Cleave
        • Ability will now deal 115% weapon damage to all targets caught in its swing, rather than 120% weapon damage to the primary target and 90% weapon damage to secondary targets
      • Revenge
        • Radius increased from 8 yards to 11 yards

    Demon Hunter
    • Active Skills
      • Bola Shot
        • Hatred generation increased from 2 to 3
        • Damage reduced from 105% to 100%

      • Elemental Arrow
        • Hatred cost increase from 5 to 10
        • Damage increased from 125% to 145%

      • Fan of Knives
        • Speed reduced from 200% weapon speed to 140% weapon speed

      • Grenades
        • Hatred generation increased from 2 to 3

      • Hungering Arrow
        • Hatred generation increased from 2 to 3
        • Damage reduced from 90% to 85%

      • Rapid Fire
        • Initial Hatred cost reduced from 30 to 20

    • General
      • A new skill has been added: Cyclone Strike
        • Available at level 7
        • Costs 75 Spirit
        • Pulls all enemies within 24 yards towards you, followed by a furious blast of energy that deals 275% weapon damage as Holy

    • Active Skills


    • The introduction of magical items into the game has been slowed


    • Baby Quill demon health increased from 1% to 25% of normal Quill Beast health (they grow up so fast)

    • Arcane Enchanted will now appear at level 7, up from level 1
    • Mortar will now appear at a level higher than current beta content
    • Plagued poison cloud duration reduced from 12 seconds to 9 seconds

    Quests and Events
    • All quests and events have had their item and recipe rewards removed and will now only award gold and experience on completion
      • This does not affect treasure received from event objects for events like the "Jar of Souls”"and only applies to rewards obtained through the quest UI

    • Gold rewards from quests have received a tuning pass

    User Interface
    • The Options UI has undergone several improvements, but remains a work-in-progress. Please report any issues in the Beta Bug Report forum.
    • The Friends List has been redesigned to be smaller and more accessible while in other menus and screens
    • The Banner Customization menu has been reworked to improve navigation and usability

    • Fire gate damage has been reduced
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 9 – v.
    Released 12/20/11

    Bug Fixes
    • Your BattleTag code will now properly appear in the Add Friend dialog box
    • Fixed an issue with promoting players to Party Leader via in-game portraits
    • Fixed an issue where sending out in-game invites to multiple players could sometimes cause the Party Leader's client to freeze when the invites were accepted
    • Fixed an issue where interacting with a character’s banner in a co-op game could cause a player to become momentarily stuck
    • Fixed an issue where rapidly equipping and un-equipping items from your inventory could sometimes cause the inventory UI to lag out
    • Fixed an issue where quickly adding items from a full inventory into the shared stash would not always move the items over correctly
    • Fixed a number of additional issues and crashes that were affecting gameplay
  • Diablo III Beta Patch 10 – v.
    Released 1/23/2012

    A number of significant changes have been made to key aspects of Diablo III in this patch. To learn more about these changes and why they were made, please be sure to read the "System Changes" blog, written by Jay Wilson.

    • All characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, achievements, items, followers, and artisans.
    • The Battle.net Balance for all beta participants has been reset to 50 Beta Bucks
    • Core character attributes have been reworked significantly
      • Attack, Defense, and Precision have been removed
      • Dexterity, Intellect, Strength, and Vitality have been added:
        • Dexterity
          • +Demon Hunter damage
          • +Monk damage
          • +Dodge (for all classes)

        • Intellect
          • +Witch Doctor damage
          • +Wizard damage
          • +Health from globes (for all classes)

        • Strength
          • +Barbarian damage
          • +Armor (for all classes)

        • Vitality
          • +Health (for all classes)

      • Armor will now supplement Defense, as well as provide +Physical resist
      • +Chance to Crit has been added as an item affix
      • Player Life per Vitality has been changed:
        • Players will now start out with 10 Life per Vitality at level 1

    • Nephalem Altars have been removed and players can now swap unlocked skills at any point during gameplay via the Skills list. This will impose a 30-second cooldown on the newly-activated skill, during which time the skill cannot be exchanged for another.
      • Please note that the skills system is still considered a work-in-progress and will be undergoing additional changes in future patches. This iteration of the system is not final.

    • Scrolls of Identification have been removed and players can now identify an item by right-clicking on the item's icon
    • The Nephalem Cube has been removed and the salvage ability has been added to the Blacksmith artisan
    • The Cauldron of Jordan has been removed
    • Stone of Recall has been renamed to "Town Portal" and can now be accessed directly via the Skill bar UI
    • The fifth quick slot button has been moved next to the Town Portal ability in the Skill bar. This slot will eventually be to dedicated to potions, but can currently be used as a normal slot.
    • Skills will now display simplified tooltips by default
      • To view Advanced tooltips, press and hold the CTRL key when hovering over skill icons

    • The duration of the global chill effect granted by cold damage has be increased from 0.4 seconds to 0.6 seconds
    • Achievements have been re-enabled


    • Active Skills
      • Ground Stomp
        • Damage increased from 70% to 110%

      • Ignore Pain
        • Cooldown reduced from 60 seconds to 30 seconds
        • Duration reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds

      • Leap Attack
        • Damage increased from 70% to 100%

      • Revenge
        • Damage increased from 150% to 220%

    • Passive Skills

    • Active Skills
      • Blinding Flash
        • No longer breaks on damage
        • Duration reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds



    • Leveling artisans in Normal difficulty now only requires gold

    • Common (white) items can no longer be salvaged and common crafting materials have been removed in all difficulty levels
    • Salvaging a Magic (blue) item will always give you a Magic material, as well as a chance to receive a Rare (yellow) or Legendary (orange) material
    • Salvaging a Rare item will always give you a Rare material and a Magic material, as well as a chance to receive a Legendary material
    • Salvaging a Legendary item will always give you a Legendary material, Rare material, and Magic material


    • Attack, Defense, and Precision random affixes have been replaced with Dexterity, Strength, and Intellect
    • The base damage on slower weapons has been increased. This is because we’re also increasing the potency of elemental damage properties, and elemental damage benefits faster weapons more than slower weapons.
    • The drop rate of Magic items between level 1 and level 20 has been lowered. Single affix-Magic items are now introduced more slowly, and double affix-Magic items won’t appear until later in the game.

    • Wandering Merchants now have a 50% chance to sell a limited stock Rare item of any type
    • Amulets have been moved from the Collector to the Fence

    • Electrified monsters no longer spew lightning on death
    • Arcane Enchanted monsters no longer cast an extra arcane beam on death

    Bug Fixes
    • Players should no longer be disconnected from Battle.net when moving a stack of 0 items to their Skill action bar
    • Rapidly moving around items in a character’s inventory should no longer cause those items to become unresponsive
    • Items that display full durability, but are still considered slightly damaged should now be able to be posted on the Auction House
    • Monsters that are killed should now always properly play their death animation rather than remain standing
