Actually I don't believe we've seen anything that hasn't been in the making from the Jay Wilson period.
The WoW team plans and builds on 1-2 expansions in advance. There is an enormous pile of ideas that have been on a wall at Blizz HQ since likely during or maybe even before the Beta started. Stuff just can't get done so fast.
The first thing we're going to see that isn't JW is when a new Director steps in. He'll likely want to make small amendments to things and all ideas currently in the works will likely get some iteration. That's when we'll see post-JW material.
So? You could say the same about every single gear slot you already have. Why have amulets? Just buff rings. Why have shoulders? Just buff chests.
Also, they could add unique affixes, so that's not even a valid excuse.
It was a perfectly valid excuse in that context. He just wanted more gear slots to be added. Why not just have 25?
Unique content on the other hand is good in any way. Doesn't have to be in the form of charms. Unique affixes can be added through crafting, enhancing/enchanting and a lot of methods I can't think of when I've slept for so little.
^While their reasoning came with some valid points, I think it was cut because they ran out of time, not because it wouldn't have worked. Charms can serve a purpose and how I explained my thoughts behind their implementation could certainly work. I'd rather be able to stack primary attribute charms for example and then perhaps get a piece of gear that had better affixes and vitality..but was missing that primary stat.
Or you could stack crit and vit on charms and main stat on other gear. See their point?
I find my average-geared Monk to be doing wonderful on MP6-7. He only has 130k DPS, but I only stop at elite packs for 10-15 seconds and move on (unless big mobs with Extra Health). Challenge starts at about MP8, where I have to be at elite packs for at least 20 seconds or so.
Is that considered slow these days?
My 160k dps barb love to fight elites at MP10 which normally take at least a few minutes, sure its slow but I like the feeling of gaming rather than walk over stuffs.
It's why I play on MP7-8 usually, where I can feel the meat under the knuckles. But my point was that it doesn't seem like I'm way, way behind Barbs.
