Dem green boots. Still get excited when I see green boots. Unless it's Blackthorne's.

Simple. It's not there.
There are no mobs or objects that hold specific items before they are dead/broken. Only if you kill/break something a roll happens which determines if something drops or not and if it does then it rolls what exactly is it going to be based on mob level*, mob type and your magic find +on inferno if MP is enabled - chance for extra items from trash mobs ( *breakables have same levels as mobs).
Therefor you don't have to worry about skipping that specific barrel, because the next one has the same chances of dropping the same loot and so efficient farming is fast farming, skipping mobs that are out of your way and rather running to mobs in your way etc
Also, legedaries can drop from absolutely anything. I've found them in barrels weapon racks, dead soldiers, simple mobs, rares, champions, bosses, goblins...
Even had 2 from 1 mob and there can be upto 5 actually.
edit: actually i think no loot can be found in breakable objects that are not clickable, if you know what i mean. For example those tables in keep depths. You can't break those by left clicking on them, but you still break them with aoe or with shift+click.
Oh and you could argue that ubers and wardens hold organs/keys on mp10 before they die, but to my knowledge the rolls still happen uppon death, it just has a 100% chance.

And the first time I ever found a legendary, I found two in a row. One from a Champion pack and one from the next normal mob I killed after that. The first one was an amulet, can't remember off the top of my head which one. I think the other one was Ivory Tower. lol

It can happen, but it is not worth turning every body. I played a lot and turned a lot of barrels /bodies /chests and found only one. At the same time I found 300+ legendaries form killing.
So my point is it is just not worth turning every body/chest/barrel. Since some of them don't even have to give you anything you would kill far more monsters in that time and it would increase your chances of getting a legendary.

I can see what you see not. Vision milky, then eyes rot.
When you turn, they will be gone. Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be. Shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind. Cast down into the Halls of the Blind
