Title says it all. Was brought up several times, and since it feels like almost 50% of the threads in the general D3 section forum are videos or streams, this is more than necessary.

Stuff I've read recently was "thanks for your feedback, but don't forget to comment on the Youtube video as well", "please subscribe to my Youtube channel", and so on - this does not give DiabloFans anything back, it just draws users from this forum onto other websites. I don't see the benefit for this community, at least I feel it's way smaller than for the websites being linked. Plus, Twitch is a business and people can earn money with it.

Streaming is something that really started happening not long ago on a broad enough scale that it's a part of online gaming. It'll be a major part of the scene in the future. It's all about the numbers - the average online gamer has an increasing up/down capacity and this won't stop. We're at the point now where the quality is good enough that this is starting to become a major part of online gaming.

Diablofans would do well to acknowledge this. I'd suggest a small box somewhere on the front page. Changing to a stretching format would be a good thing if space is an issue. More and more people are also moving away from the old standard resolutions, very few are on CRTs these days. From a design perspective I can understand the inclination to stick to a standard format because again it's all about the numbers and it's not a good thing if a large portion of the visitors aren't having a good experience when browsing a website.

There are ways to determine what resolution the recipients are using via HTML (dunno about HTML5, might be something there that really helps this situation), unfortunately designing a site that is both stretching and pre-arranged and at the same time being fail proof is tricky and above all time consuming. It's possible though. Just a digression there but still, Diablofans wouldn't be at a disadvantage if they embraced live streams a little more right now because its integration is going to be a must-have sooner rather than later for large online gaming sites.

Edit: anyway, I'm actually guilty of posting threads about my stream a couple of times, though my intentions were to demonstrate stuff rather than gain viewers (I really don't care about viewership; I actually barely interact with people on the stream). At the end of my streams, I usually convert them into a video which I upload to YouTube and then embed over here, but not everyone does that.

I really agree with rebjorn and his thoughts in integrating the stream directly onto diablofans. It'll certainly keep a lot of people around rather than jump to YouTube or Twitch. How it's done, I have no clue, I'm not educated on that level. There is a "stream" tab at the top of the page, though I'm not sure what the purpose of that is considering I always misclick it and end up going to a page where I can't see anything.

Well, I don't watch streams, anyway (why watch someone play when I could be playing myself, either D3 or another game), but I see where you're coming from.

What came first... your immense, invaluable, unselfish contribution to help poor little wizards every single day on Diablofans, or your stream (where you help people by showing them how to play properly and give away gear)? I think we all know the answer ;-)

Absolutely, if they can integrate this make it a complete new section on this website and link it to the forum.

I watch videos if they're short (less than 10 minutes), but only rarely because oftentimes I'm in situations where watching videos is not possible (yeah, guilty of checking DF at work). I sometimes watch streams; I remember watching Alkaizer in his late p90's and Jaetch from time to time, but also other games. It's nice, and since I work in this damn business I should better be up-to-date about it - I know that videos are the future and forums like this are so 1999. Still, no reason to not keep them separate I guess ;-)

I use forums for 2 reasons : get informations or take part/read discussions about topics I'm interested in. Streams/Videos provide none of this for me. I think streams/videos are more about entertainment than information/discussion.

Thank you, Bags....for making this thread. I come to Gen Discussion for discussion, not cheesy "GIVEAWAYS HERE" stream plugs.

Moving these stream-spams to a separate forum would be appreciated by just about everyone. Simply put, people are getting carried away with this 'bribe to subscribe' nonsense.

This has to be a joke. All these streams ARE actually being posted without permission. Why is no admin doing something about this? Why is there absolutely no feedback on this thread? Admins, pleaaaaaaaaaaase! I have no idea what else to do. There's hardly a day without at least 2-3 new streams.

I agree. Most vids posted are utterly boring I don't watch anything anymore, not even stuff on main page.

To streamers/youtubers: make sure you write a summary in your post if you want your message heard. If there's no abstract I'll just assume you're here to grab some clicks and to waste my time.

I can agree with this.

Truthfully, I've seen streams and YouTube videos by folks like Moldran, Archon, Nmitty...some of them are interesting, others are just "buying guides," which is kind of aggravating to see MORE of those than actual "here are some tips to play this game better."  Sometimes they're pretty compelling analyses, but all in all, it's people who want to be well-known by doing something they love.  I can't blame for them for it (why most of us post in forums like this at all), but there should be a place for people to mostly post video links if that's what they're going for.
