It changes the lighting of the game, giving it a darker grimery look. I have been using this mod/graphic tweak since the first week of launch. So, I would say this mod/graphic tweak is 99.99% safe.

DarkD3 changes some settings of your GFX card, it only messes with lightning options etc. in the DirectX settings. It does not touch any game files. Therefore, in its current implementation, it is not bannable. There was even a tweet from Jay Wilson months ago and afaik the basic mechanics of DarkD3 hasn't changed since:

However, the extras package on the website which allows you to change font does so by changing something in the game files, therefore I think this might cause you a ban. I've asked about this before but didn't get an answer, and to be honest I won't risk my account, I got used to the font by now.

Yeah, changing the font seems like the only part that breaks the rules. The color/brightness adjustments on the other hand should be totally fine. Don't take my word for it of course. If anything you could contact Customer Support and ask.

He means the new Blizzard dev team does not handle sarcasm or light teasing in any way. My D3 Forum account got banned for saying that Shrek the Third and Big Momma's House 3 were better threequels than Diablo 3.

Having your Barbarian actually LOOK like a mean ass Barbarian helps too.

So much of the gear in D3 looks like rubbish and takes away the badassness of characters. I'm looking at you, ridiculous, styrofoam, prop shoulder pieces.

I do not believe it looks like rubbish - i am only annoyed that i cannot die the legendaryes... now my character mus wear red boots, blue pants and black chest... a clown in the making

I wouldn't use this, any outside program regardless of function is borderline.  Only thing I know is okay is a multi-boxxing program that is made by people who are in contact with Blizzard.

I've never heard of anyone getting banned for using this. Not really my favorite look, but looks really neat either way.

I'm using it since release and I didn't get banned. Personally, I enjoy playing the darkd3 version and I wouldn't switch it to normal:)
