I don't entirely agree with your assessment of paragon levels. I've got an MF-capped set, and I look forward to paragon levelling (although I'm only at 40-something right now) because it means I'm a little closer to ditching an MF piece for a more powerful non-MF piece. That was the intention of paragon levels... to get us out of our MF gimp-suits and into the BiS gear that MF helped us find, and it does that job perfectly.

I do agree that around 60-70, it really loses that purpose because the time between levels is so ridiculous. I think they need to drastically scale down the XP required for higher paragon levels, because at the moment it's very alt-hostile, and I hate that. It definitely feels like they stretched out the paragon XP curve in lieu of giving us something else to do.

I'm also a big fan of the very clear break between D3's early game and endgame, and the way character levels vs. paragon levels highlights that difference. Paragon levels do feel like a bandaid, but that's because they need to be expanded on and improved, not just folded into character levels.

Yeah, Force vids were great.  But Sibcoe and Moldran certainly more than make up for the lack of Force coverage! :Thumbs Up:

I've been enjoying these State of the Game commentaries. I've been meaning to comment on each one individually, but alas time is not always my friend. I did, however, mention this on-going series (hopefully there will still be much more to come?) on episode 30 of the Shattered Soulstone podcast (which should be available soontm) and included links to them in the show-notes on the blog. Thanks for the critical insight and constructive criticism. Hopefully someone at Blizzard has been listening to them and taken some of your points to heart.

Paragon farming is interesting while you are solving the efficiency riddle and optimizing spec/gear/etc. Once you solve that riddle, it becomes a bit of a mindless grind -- because the current MP reward system is scaled to direct you to farm the lowest MP. Basically, 2 XP rings (hellfire, leorics), XP gem on helm and MP0 Alk runs ad infinitum. I'm 98 now and about 8-9 hours from 100 if I keep farming at max efficiency. That said, I've been playing higher MPs lately knowing they are less efficient because they are more fun.

The past week or so, to break the monotony of paragon farming, I've been playing the game in story mode from Act I through Act IV on MP7 and building a video series on it.  After 98 levels of low MP paragon farming in Act III, it's been almost like rediscovering an old friend again.  You begin to take note of not only the affixes but the type of creature you are fighting and all around it feels like a game again.  It is definitely FAAAAR less efficient in terms of both item and XP if you are after those . . . but it's been a ton of fun and very refreshing after mindlessly spamming things down on MP0.

It's a shame Blizzard still haven't realigned the reward system to encourage us to play the game at a level where it is more engaging. If 100 random RPG gamers watched a vid of someone efficient paragon farming and then watched another vid of that same person doing high MP gameplay and were asked which looks more like a more engaging game, I think 99 out of 100 would say the higher MP vid.  With that being the case, it is disturbing that the in-game reward system is so skewed to discourage us from playing the D3 where it feels more like a game.  That said, we are free to choose to disregard item and XP efficiency and just enjoy the game and that's what I've been doing of late.  This doesn't change the fact that Blizzard have some work to do to align the reward system better.

That sounds interesting. I was puzzled to see that quest rewards are so useless on Inferno (800 gold and no XP; c'mon). What if Blizzard would make quests on higher MP more rewarding? Complete all quests in one act in under one hour on Inferno and you get a considerate amount of XP and an extra big resplendent chest at the end. This effect multiplies for every monster power level chosen. Or just give an extra reward for people who clear every entire area of every single mob. Like the Den in Diablo 2, I miss that. I always liked to completely clean sweep everything, but obviously it's the opposite of the efficiency song.

Damn, I would love to play through the entire game in MP10, but it takes sooo much time and it's really just "for fun", it's like throwing game time away by doing random stuff that could've awarded you a couple of paragon levels in the same time.

Questions about wizard gear? Helpful tools? Common wizard builds? What gear for my follower? And what is a black weapon?

Answers to these and many other questions in the Wizard Gear Guide.

It's crap. All I could stand to listen to was the first half ... & it was all negative. I heard not 1 single positive thing about D3 in that part not anything constructive to help my play the game. Whoever was in that video kept comparing D3 to Torchlight 2 (whatever that is). So tell me this: Why is everything so negative about this game? I have a few things I'd like to change, but for me I have a blast (playing Barb para LVL 60 currently). If all these people are so negative about the game why do they bother playing so much then slamming it? If I dislike a game so much as these people do (just going by their comment about how much better other games are) I wouldn't bother playing more than an hour or 2. I would really love to see & hear CONSTRUCTIVE comments & videos ... not crap comparisons to another game. Nuf said.

Hi BornBadd - it sounds like you didn't like it - so sad :(  Thanks for watching the first half though.  One thing to keep in mind - it is a state of the game, not a game guide.  :)  I do hope you check out some of the guides and enjoy those, and if not, hey, maybe watch the first half of the next one too.
