I never played D2, but I browse these forums a lot and I know that the more dedicated Diablo fans were really disappointed with how far off D3 was. It was helpful, from my perspective, to hear the actually differences and reasons discussed in detail.
Thanks!

...what?
Gotta love that bit in bold.
On the video: I share most of the views expressed on it. From the poor loot throughout the game, to the ever-present AH, to the degeneration of this game into a glorified spreadsheet.

Also keep this in mind though Diablo 2 had its share of problems; however, they were addressed over time and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction is when the game shined the most. But you know what? Diablo 2 before the Lord of Destruction was still in a better shape than Diablo 3.
edit:
ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THIS! The quests holy shit man, the quests in Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, they all gave unique rewards in terms of items, gems/runes (hell forge runs), consumable scroll that increased resistances. In Diablo 3 they give us gold.......
The fucking horadric cube niggas! need I explain more!?

I do have to say that Diablo 3 is not "finished" and a good fan base than continues to challenge the engineers is pretty unique and awesome. My advice: don't give up on the game continue with the constructive feedback and changes will happen. Nice review.
My biggest gripe doesnt compare to what you guys are talking about....I just am pissed that they have fear proc on EF. WTF WTF

I stay away from D3 because it is not a good game at the moment. D2 was not perfect but at least it was very fun for me. And if you include the mods for D2 then I have had even more fun.
The item hunt is really boring in D3. The combat part is alright but the rewards are just not worth it. In D2 you got tonnes of garbage but there was a lot more variety in the affixes for gear and sometimes those items will make an interesting build. I found when Playing D3 the items are just stat sticks to boost damage, life, etc. Why bother with the hunt when you can just buy from the AH. I found with D3 after finishing Normal with one character the enjoyment went away. I never got the feeling of losing the track of time when playing. Matter of fact it was almost the opposite it felt like I was playing the game longer than I was.
Part of being a dedicated fan is to express your feelings for the game both good and bad. A dedicated fan does not have to continue to play the game if they do not like the game but loved the other games.

From a casual D & D2 player it's interesting to hear how the more hardcore player base took those previous games to the next level and got much more entertainment out of them. In turn it really does show whats lacking in D3 to make it feel so stale after 200 odd hours.

Well I'd say they are doing one hell of a good job. Diablo 3 is still 3rd most played RPG after WOW, and a little behind GW. I've been playing since launch and I still really enjoy playing the game even with pvp not out yet. But I agree that there are many things that could use improvements and polishing. Luckily they are still working to make improvements so we know they are coming at some point. Imo people should keep giving more constructive feedback. I'm quite tired of every gaming forum of any game most of the posts are just whining and not giving any real feedback. Hopefully that would change at some point so it would be fun to read forums and see different ideas and improvements people come up with.
EDIT: forgot to ask from the OP that you said you wanted end game content. What end game content you would want because I'm not sure what would people want to add? You said that not MMOPRG type of content but then what would you want? For me, I enjoy the farming and killing ubers (and maybe pvp when it comes) which I think is the end game of diablo

As far as end game goes, once they have PvP, Diablo 3 will have faaaaaaaar more end game then any other Diablo game ever made.
If they want to be super awesome, they could add a "Endless dungeon" in Act 4, but that would require a lot of work.
