I don't agree with the OP that clearing speed beats all. I often log drops/hour and legendaries/hour for my runs, and even though MP5 takes longer than MP0, I get like 3-4x more rare drops and legendaries per hour.
MP0 magic find cap: 375 (with NV5)
MP5 magic find cap: 500 (with NV5)
Even if you have the exact same clearing speed (unlikely, but let's give you the benefit of the doubt), mathematics say it's virtually impossible to get 3-4x more legendaries on MP5. You may have had a very lucky sample, but in the long run your "3-4x more" claim is an exaggeration. If it was true, by the way, there wouldn't be any need to fix rewards at higher MP levels.
No, it's not an exaggeration

It's more than that actually, but lets just round things down. People, including you, usually don't take into account (or underestimate) Bonus Item (BI) chance. As I said in some other thread, BI chance is in great synergy with MF. From MP1 and up, every time something drops from a white mob (excluding Health Globes BUT including gold), there's a BI roll. If successful, the BI will be wearable gear, and standard MF tests are rolled if it's legendary or n-affix rare or magic. Remember that legendary drop chance from white monsters is doubled in 1.05. That applies to BIs too. I can't give you exact chances, only my logs, and those show a clear and significant increase in drops from MP3 and up. I don't log every run, but when I measure my performance I will log 3-4 consecutive runs. I have logs since July.
People also underestimate the scale of stats in Diablo III. Yes, very good gear (north of billion in gold) is required to farm higher MPs effectively, but it's not unreachable at all. AH prices are ridiculously low for everything not BIS. With a little creativity in character building, and lot of AH sniping everyone will find good enough gear. Some dedication will be required of course, there's no such thing as free lunch.
Edit: forgot to add, there's one more thing about white monsters that's usually omitted. Namely, drop chance is not equal for every monster, it depends on monster type. Stronger monsters with higher base HP will usually have higher chance to drop something and experience for killing them is also increased. Keep Depths 2 and Field of Slaughter have large packs of strong monsters. That's why Alkaizer XP runs are so effective but that also means that with lots of BIs dropping, most legendaries from white monsters will drop there. So on higher MPs its smarter to focus on these zones (while on low MPs elite hunting is still more effective).
