Oh come on! At least don't lie! PVP was a Huge feature in D2. Even the D2 Beta was packed of Pvper. Couldn't you see all the PVP game in the game list? Pvper even had unofficial naming convention to help you find a pvp game: Duel, Duels, Duelss, Duelss,....... Dueling, Duel now,.... were always full and active.
God damn I miss the sound when someone was click the pvp button in town. I would go outside town and wait for that little #$#)(*!! I could feel the adrenaline pumping. Dude, it was intense. hehe

He's not lying, you are. Or, to put it another way, you're taking your experience with the game and making it everyone's.
PvP was a relatively minor feature in D2; the majority of people that bought that game (like me) never even touched bnet, let alone PvP.

Every game has "potential" for esports. Heck, there's even a tetris esports community. Does it mean that every game needs to be turned into esports? Hell, no. Why not? Simply because by focusing on esports, the game mechanics need to be changed towards "skill". Diablo was always less about skill; it's about killing millions of monsters and collecting loot. And it was designed such that it can be played by anyone who knows how to use a mouse.

2. One of the main reasons I bought D3 was for the PvP Blizzard promised. Yes, I still play the game because im aware that Diablo is a pve hack n' slash at heart. Yes, I always knew PvP would never be a key feature of the game. I was looking forward to playing a new Diablo title that offered a great pve end-game environment and some side PvP activities to keep me sane from all the farming. Why has Blizzard failed at providing a proper end-game environment and some PvP funzies?
My conclusion:
I love Diablo 3 and do my best to support it outside and in-game....yet the game still lacks a SHIT LOAD of feautures for a 2012 game release, pvp and pve related. Im aware Blizzard is doing their best to fix their failure and I have faith. In the meantime I don't really play that much, maybe a few hours a week. I hope in the near future we will see things like ACTUAL skill diversity throughout classes (promised by Blizzard during development) and some PvP fun. Keep Blizzard on their feet with positive feedback and maybe those jerks won't let us down a second time! Diablo 3 release was a huge let down for me personally, but Blizzard is know for fixing their shit aka WoW.

There are no "noobs", there are just people who invested less time/money. If you put a considerable amount of time or money in a D3 character, you take the default cookie cutter build from a forum of your choice, smash buttons 1-4 and mouse buttons at random and you're just as good as anyone.
And I personally don't need to "own" someone to have fun. If me and my mates "own" uber bosses by kicking their asses, we have fun enough.

Even playing the game scares off some people, imagine then trying to figure it out while watching... Gave a WD to an old D2 RL friend of mine for a few hours... He kept asking "Where am I, where am I?" the first ten minutes. No, this is not how a spectator game looks like. This is worse than WoW arena.

anyway who said diablo won't be based on skill as well? there is positioning, CC management, spellshots (like ancient spear and most of ranged spells, even weaponthrow), juking spellshots, kiting, team management - there is a lot of place for strategies and skill
trading autoattacks and winning with gear alone is what casual noobs do, as a competitive player i don't accept this summary, even if gear factor will be significant it's not what I want to find blame in, and this mindset is my advantage in progressing further
"The weak are meat the strong do eat" - that's the only rule in every sport, even mindgame-based one, being overwhelmed by gear factor is a trait of the weak

See? It works the other way too... don't think, that since you and all yr friends dont't like something, it means that it's useless, or a "minor feature"...

You started with a good point, then made yourself look ridiculous; talking about weak and strong....please. It's a game.
This game is, at best, 10% skill and 90% gear. And of that 10%, most of it comes before the actual gameplay (theorycrafting, etc). You can have all the skill you want, you'll never beat someone who vastly outgears you. That's just how it is.
People claiming otherwise just like to stroke their egos.

Except my version is supported by facts provided by Blizzard, while yours is just a weak attempt at being funny and a douche, the former failing and the latter succeeding.

PVP was a major feature in D2. No clue what your talking about.
If it wasn't for pvp i bet the 'majority' of players would have stopped playing due to boredom within 3-4 months of playing.
The hostile button was a magical button. From, duels to pking.
I mean really, i bet more than half the player base pvpd in some way, shape or form. Im not really debating this, im just stating the obvious.

...Cool story. How much PVP did you do in diablo 2? Probably none by that comment.
A skilled pvp'r in D2 could give you his 'BEST' gear... Run over to Charsi, buy some vendor trash and still win easily. I kid you not because i used to naked duel in FFA games....

You sound like a noob...lol. GoooOood For YouuUUuu!
I used to Necro vs Necro against great players in private games all night long just for the love of great duels. There was nothing but respect for each other and we learned alot.
Please,,, Shut up. PvM is that way------------------>
Nothing worse then some guy with no love for pvp trying to make some pointless point about why pvp shouldn't exist.
