Yesterday I ran across an elete pack with Waller, Vortex, and Reflect Damage on them. Once involved I couldn't run away, kept being walled in, and lost health whenever I could create some damage. So, of course, I died. But as I was close to my waypoint when I revived I was right back in the battle. What fun. All I could do was leave the game and try again.

When there are mobs around that can't be beat it is VERY frustrating. I don't understand why this is good for the game.

Just a rant. I wanted to blow off steam.

Were you only playing in Hell?  You only mentioned 3 affixes.  In the case of Inferno though, I find that as long as I am playing the appropriate MP I can handle any combination.  /shrug

It's good to blow off some steam after going up against some ball-breaking packs like that. I laugh it off when I die over and over again to some hard elite packs, of course I do eventually kill them.

Unless I have one of those days where I just create a game for a key run, Run into first pack, has really shit affix combo, try to kill them, can't so I end up skipping them, run into another pack with a just as bad affix combo, do the same, then run into another pack with another horrid affix combo. At that point I'm just like "NOPE" and leave and go do something else :P
Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."

"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"

Lol, join the club. You cleary didnt play pre patch 1.04, it was much worse. The game is actually waaaayyyyy easier now @ MP0. Try farming for gold and getting some upgrades in the auction house.

Those are the packs I love. The ones that make you want to smash the keyboard. It's the best thing D3 has going for it over D2. The PvE can be intense and challenging way beyond anything the Diablo series has ever thrown at you before.

I farm VoA often. Usually filled with between 7-12 packs of Elites. When doing so, I accept that two of the possible monsters to spawn as Elite are two of the worst in the game.

Blazing Guardians and Mage Wraths. Combined with Molten/Waller/Arcane (nevermind what the forth affix is), these bad-asses give up the hardest challenge in the game IMO.

They're not really a challenge, they just use bigger numbers. Get enough resists/armour/HP and they become easy again.

I claim them to be especially hard because of what they inherently bring to the mix.

Guardians have that fast-casting, spamable desecrator thing that just melts you to nothing regardless of your resists, granting them a free 5th affix. Luckily, their health is typically low and they can't take a punch. Still, if they wall you in and start stacking that burn effect with whatever else (molten/Desc/Arcane) .....you're toast fast brother.

The Mage Wraths have a sort of jailer effect, where they park on top of you. Which can grind you to bits with Firechains/Electrocute/Molten.

I play Monk, MP6...just to be clear. 700 AR, 50k life and 5700 armor......not too shabby.

Your resists could be higher.

Rule of thumb;

Resists could always be higher.

Play hardcore, then smash your keyboard :)

The hardest mobs are the A3 bugged demonic tremors who are super fast and stunlocking even without a fast affix. Quite silly and impossible for a solo DH to kill alone if not overgeared :P

One of my favorites is Horde, Arcane Enchanted with Vortex. Nothing like seeing four or five arcane sentry's drop then get vortexed right in the middle of them. let me tell you it's that oh-crap moment I love when the game gets fun!

Demonic tremors, sigh!
You can't really complain these days when earlier patches were suicidally hard.
Gear up!

I still remember D2. Having my Amazon at about lvl 89 and getting a huge lag spike in hardcore... She died, and I burrowed my keyboard in the backyard... Never again. Brrrr...

I understand that you are frustrated about it. It's like when you come across Horde with Arcane Enchanted in a tight area and you're like "WTH!". The thing is though that the Diablo games are all about random things and making your character stronger. Coming across random challenges that are much, much harder than others is also a fun way to see how well your character can handle them, and how you can build your character to do it better next time.

Personally, before that very first inferno nerf, I was struggling really bad by the end of act 3, but was still having a blast. Then they nerfed it, and I completed inferno within a few hours, and then I quit playing a couple of days later because the game got boring when I wasn't challenged anymore. I saw no point in developing my character further. Then came Monster Power, and now I'm back and am having a blast yet again.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that impossible challenges can be frustrating and angering, but they are what keep you going.

Totally right.

I know that there are many packs I should skip because they just take too much time (and sometimes even too many deaths). But screw efficiency - I feel personally offended if a pack doesn't obey to hand me over their loot. It's me or them. I couldn't do Alkaizer runs with skipping difficult packs just to maintain a high xp/hour rate. There's a certain RPG spirit, and as my fellow follower sometimes says: "Do you see that enemy over there? Let us cleanse it from this land!"

Questions about wizard gear? Helpful tools? Common wizard builds? What gear for my follower? And what is a black weapon?

Answers to these and many other questions in the Wizard Gear Guide.

I actually love thos packs that are really really hard to win over.
If they were not present the game would be to easy.

Think back how it was before, you died at some really hard packs, respawned and the packs had gained 100% life again.. then you knew after some tries that.. ok.. i have to pull them far out of the area to pass or create a new game and hope for not getting that combo again :D
