Soo, I have multiple level 60s that I play. I like switching toons because it keeps the game fresh. However I am really curious as to what the heck I am doing wrong when it comes to drops. Please this is not a crying post. I am trying to find out what I can do to get better drops or make my characters better.  I love the game, I like killing things. I just want to find out what I can do to try and find some more gear. I realize its luck, but this is some very crappy luck. This week I am up to 892 rares, and 0 legendary items since the patch dropped.

Please note, I have found nothing of worth since the start of this game. Any money I do make is either small stuff off the AH or what I found ingame. Since 1.05 the best thing I have found is Stormcrow. (crappy and sells cheap)  Every last legendary (they are not that good) I have was bought at some low price so they really aren't that good. With my monk and barb I play on MP2. Everything else is MP1.  One of the reasons I am frustrated is I see people linking cool gear  or multiples and I have never seen a set drop.

Wait, you say you have found 0 legendary items since 1.0.5 hit, but you've found a Stormcrow post 1.0.5? O.o

Anyways. 0 or 1 legendary over that time span is insanely low. I think I'm well past 100 after 1.0.5 hit. What areas do you farm?

My only suggestion is to do the Alkaizer route no matter what class you play. I has the best monster density and xp efficiency.

The answer is simple (though you won't like it): the game is currently designed in a way such that it absolutely DISCOURAGES from twinking. Focus on one character, get on a high paragon level, you'll get tons of legendaries, and with that you equip your other toons until they can steamroll content, farm fast, and get to higher paragon levels, too.

I've got only two characters (barb and wiz) and wanted to level both at the same time as I did in D2 already, but D3 just won't let me. A couple of weeks ago I put my barb to sleep and ever since I focused on my wiz only and got to a reasonable paragon level, it works. My barb is even sitting at 2 IK set items already and gets some decent gear, so maybe at around paragon level 70 of my wiz I can reactivate my barb. But if you really want to play all of them in parallel, you'll have a hard time.

To give you some numbers, I felt that at around paragon level 20 you start seeing legendaries drops on a more regular basis, though rarely more than one per day; at around 40-50 it gets crazy and you'll find a handful on one day if you're lucky and play for a few hours.

First your gear is totally crap.

Then... well thats it . With better you farm a lot faster, many times faster actually. Check these guides, there are alot of good tips about gear and skills.

You have almost no MF on any character. As a rough, affordable estimate, try to get around 100~150 MF on a character you deem to be the most fun to farm with. Get some decent paragon levels with him. And optimize your farming speed. Killing many monsters fast beats killing monsters on higher MP settings. MP 0 in act 3 is fine, MP 1 should be on in acts 1 and 2. Anything beyond that should only be used if you kill everything almost instantaneously.

Yep, he's right. I would say "tons" might be a bit misleading because it's feast or famine, but the droughts don't last so long when they hit.

I would ask the OP a few questions;

1) How much do you play? Average daily/weekly?

2) Do you use MF switch?

To address the first question, I would say it's obvious. If you're only playing an hour every few nights or so, you're obviously going to see less drops. Still, you should be harvesting something.

To address the second question, I used MF switch until I got my Para leveling up a tad. Once MP was added to the mix, I discontinued the practice and was happy to do so as I despised having to do it. You can buy very cheap MF gear @ the GAH. It doesn't even have to have any qualities that would add to your details sheet. Just as long as it's MF. If you're hurting for gold, just save any junk rares you find that have MF. It's a pain to learn the technique of switching, but it gets easier as you practice.

Both Para levels and MP settings affect your MF.

Concentrating on one character is key, as Bagstone pointed out. Just figure what char you like best and go with it.

Yep kalikoo is right you need better gear... You should then farm act 3 and you will find legendarys in no time try aim for MP5. Definitely need the crit chance on your gear and 100% crit gems in socketed 1
Hand weps if you have the funds

MP5 is way too high, especially assuming that he is low on gold judging his current gear. Even folks like Moldran, having gear worth billions of gold, farm with MP1-2.

I disagree with the MP5 thing. I got 145k dps barb but still i farm MP3-4 because its sooo much faster and i do find tons of legendarys. Ofc i can farm higher monster power but its much slower so i dont see a point doing that.

To op: I played the game about 400h hours before i found any good items to sell. I was also getting pretty frustrated. After 1.0.5 patch i started finally finding good items and farming got much faster. Now im at paragon lvl73 and legendarys drop every run atleast one. Like many other said, try to focus on one class and get some paragons. If you play a barb, try the sprint/WW build.. its superfast build to farm. Thanks, Peace!

Thanks for all the quick posts. I know my gear is crap hence I am trying to upgrade it but again is hard when you can't find anything to sell or use.  This is the feed back I was looking for.

@Rhye, lol I read that and realized what I said. I already edited and did not want to go back and fix it twice What I meant to say stormcrow is only item i have found since patch

Don't get too frustrated and make sure to maintain your sense of humor. Find a way to add MF and para level your favorite char.

6 pieces of my gear is self found, though far from godly, I can walk through MP's as high as 6 without trouble and can handle MP's as high as 8 but that's too slow for my DPS output.

I even made a thread called "Post your self-found upgrades here".....but you prolly don't want to look at that thread right now

You (OP) need::

1) better luck
2) kill speed
3) MF from paragon and/or gear
4) good farming routes

I like switching characters too, and dont have enough time to level high paragon, so i prefer MF from gear and farming mp1-3.. MF gear for effective mp1 farming is very cheap these days

examples:
1) check out my wiz.. I geared her two weeks ago, budget 25M, can farm fast mp2 with archon build, current MF with follower and valors is over 400.. I can switch weapon/offhand and build (permafrost) for mp5+ (keys and uber runs) when playing in Party with DPS friends (mostly WDs)

2) my WD fun build (= not so effective as he could be for this budget). geared today for 5M during lunch break:). Can farm mp1 relatively fast with 300+ MF with valors...

Please people, if you want a challenge and play MP10 all the time just because you like it, it's fine. This guy wants to get some decent gear - the way to get there is to farm quickly and efficient, and that can easily be done on MP0 act 3. There is absolutely no reason to go to higher MP levels unless your gear is so good that you 1-shot everything.

To OP: in the theorycrafting section there are threads about the most efficient MP level for farming, including some nice stats. Don't listen to that BS that you need to farm on MP5 to see legendaries. Stay on the MP you like (MP0 act 3 is totally fine and for most people even the most efficient place for XP/loot per time) and don't try to desperately reach the higher MP levels.

Edit: the only time you should go to higher MP levels is when you want to farm keys/organs for a Hellfire Ring, but you should get some friends to help you out, and group play changes everything anyways.

Better gear is needed for farming. Try and get your base MF up to and if possible, over 150 and then see what happens. To be honest, if you can max it out at 300 you will see more and more drops. 300 plus whatever MP level you play is a big bonus. Mind you, not all drops will be worth your time but you will find more and that is the point.

I will note, the drops are reliant on the number of kills you get. It's as with any gamble, the more kills, the more drops. It's simple so try and find a farming route that will net you the greatest number of kills. Once you have a good farm route, focus on running it as fast as you can with the fewest number of deaths.

Efficiency is the key along with your MF.

I will note this as well, focus on ONE character - heavily! Get that character up high in Paragon.

I played strictly wizard. I farmed heavily with her. I saved up so much and found enough gear to deck out my monk from scratch. You, on the other hand, have a bunch of subpar characters (no offense, but that's just how they appear) because none of them can farm efficiently on their own. Focus on one and go from there.

1. Focus on gearing one character first. Gear that character strictly on DPS and EHP to improve your farming efforts.

2. Select a decent MP (1-4) to farm consistently; least deaths, fastest kills, most drops.

3. Get paragon levels. Your characters have nothing on them.

4. Gain levels, gain primary stats --> gain MF --> deal more damage --> kill mobs faster --> farm faster --> gain paragon faster --> gain more primary stats --> deal more damage --> kill even faster --> farm even faster --> save 100M gold --> kill even faster --> farm even faster --> gain more paragon even faster --> gain more stats and MF --> farm way faster --> kill way faster --> save more gold --> repeat until paragon 100

5. Keep farming.

One important thing to remember is that people posting their links here are but a handful of the people that's playing the game. When people link their OP gear, they most often brag a little at the same time and players with less impressive gear don't really think they benefit from posting the link. I think the number of players with really OP gear is much higher than what you see on this forum.

A week or so ago, there was a really informative video on the start page of diablofans with TryHardEnmity gearing a monk using 3 mil gold:

I actually thought the way he searched the AH and made decisions what informative and educational ^^

Some might be bragging but there are those of us that are trying to say one simple thing, focus on one character more and gear that one character. You call it "OP" gear but I call it 600 hours spent playing the game and busting ass to find good gear and use it or sell it for gear better suited for my character. Sure, the op needs to weed out the braggards but there are some of us that will give it to the op straight - 3 mill in AH gear will not net you the same results that hundreds of hard working hours in the game will. It will get you started but you still need to grind and find that focusing on a single character can be rewarding, especially in the higher paragon levels.

I look back at some of the gear I was buying in July and August and I just facepalm. Anywho...let's take it easy on the poor fella. He's trying and wants to get better.
