hehe i like they put in pauldrons. it seems the gem system will be like wows, with different classes of gems (STAR Topaz). It's the Leoric Highlands btw also, as in Tristram's former king. Elixirs too, hmm. Probably a temporary buff potion. Also with those runes, it seems runewords may not be implemented =(

purple, if its like wow, will be the uniques, but i dont think that they would be dropping off easy bosses like those, so it may be the magical or rare colour

regarding the purple items, i know that atleast a purple short staff drops off the last boss.
the amulet that drops there does look unique aswell.

The first mini-boss, Thousand Pounder has the subtitle of Gluttony Incarnate. Also drops a 2-Handed Purple Axe.

Yeah, that was what i thought as well. Kinda like the Hellfire oils.
