www.myspace.com/mpotatoes for all your Trans Siberian Orchestra listening pleasure
If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last

By helping a neighbor
Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help
You need only just ask

Wouldn't be if it wasn't for Rykker. He even got me Tremaine, the Priest.

Wow, all these clips and pictures remind me just how dark and urgent Diablo was before its sequels. It really did once have a wonderful, distinctive atmosphere before Diablo 2 sort of watered it down. The monsters were so original and fascinating too.

Thanks a lot Anakyn for putting all these things up. From what I understood you said, it's not easy to do and the time you invested in doing this must have been fairly long. We all really appreciate it. I loved the monster deaths and Tremain the Priest seems so wonderfully archetypal, it's awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing a Pit Lord death by the way if you can manage it. Those Lava Thrower guys had a pretty cool death sequence too if I remember right.

I'll see what I can do once I am released from the Dreaded Overtime (12 hours OT per day) in a couple of days.

I've been exporting some monster gifs myself, but a few of them have some missing colors, as you can see there's missing some on the side of the chest and legs on this one and it's really bugging me.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a solution? Google isn't finding any relevant answers.

I think you?re not using the correct pallete, if i?m not wrong Diablo 1 models had
a different file to handle the colours

Rykker's the expert at extracting these images. I would ask him about it.

The mpq editor I'm using came with a diablo.pal file and the Diablo 2 option under palette is unticked by default so I'm assuming it's the correct palette. I'm gonna try with some other mpq editors, if there are any.

Also Diablo 1 images are 16-bits colors, those white areas looks like the 32-bits error that windows give me when I launch diablo 1 with it.

Check that

I haven't quite figured out how to get proper animations of the Uniques, such as the doom guard, Rustweaver.
As I said earlier in the thread, each monster-type has multiple color palettes; each one corresponding to a different variant of the monster. They do something apparently more complex for the Uniques, and I haven't discovered what that is, yet.

I found something about the Unique monsters colors
"Uniques have their own set of TRN files that will not work for normal monsters. Use of normal monster TRN files on uniques is unknown."
Seems Unique colors are on those .trn

unique TRNs are not really that unique
all TRNs just have to be picked very carefully

regarding that white colors: they used to be pure black originally (RGB data 000000h in .PAL file), but got converted to white in the process of extraction/conversion

Ah ofcourse, I see white and black has been switched in the palette file. I'm not sure if pure black is the right color though, looks a little too dark.

Black is right for shadow.
However, part of this demon's legs is colored black, which, as far as I remember, wasn't the case originally - they were (very) dark red. Which also looks not like red, but pretty dark, without creating a feeling that it's too dark.

Hmm, I guess I'll just have to try some of the colors in the palette file and find one that fits, I'm just such a perfectionist that I can't rest unless I know I have the right colors. :P

I'm using cv5, it lets you view and save cel and cl2 files as gifs.
