At Launch: 72-96 hour marathon session (ideally getting to 60 before sleeping)
Commitment: 1 straight week of HC play, 12 hours a day minimum (I'll personally be doing 5 weeks)

Thanks!

How are they going to play in the afterlife is the thing I wonder the most

Im sure the game will be difficult at the later stages, but don't be so blind to think it is unbeatable even early on.

What does that have to do with anything? nobody knows how hard it's going to be because no ones played it, what does that have to do with attempting to be the first person to 60, first person to Inferno and first person to clear Inferno?

Not even death can save you from Diablo.

/agree with this... well, except perhaps the 'weeks' thing. Regardless of whether or not it is as hard as the developers like to claim it is, going straight at it with a HC character is going to be a tough goal. Rushing blindly in with absolutely zero experience in any of the significant difficulties, and especially doing so with a mindset to get to <insert goal> first, can only lead to a lot of deaths. More than likely some hardcore but more careful players will get there before any who try to rush it straight out of the gates. And if that's not the case, then Blizz is doing something wrong and will most definitely be eating their 'you will die' words. Heh.
Shrug. I guess we'll see how it goes. Shall be interesting. I would have loved to have a shot at this a few years ago, but now there's work and a girl and all that other stuff to think about,
G'luck.

Yeah. I'm just gonna quietly go through hardcore super carefully.
I always thought avoiding dying was more valued in hardcore than quickly doing something. Of course, if you can avoid dying quickly, that's even better, but I don't know.

I'm a HC D2 vanilla veteran, I know how Hardcore works but thank you all for your concern.

"I will invest obscene amounts of time" is quite irrelevant to the rushing aspect. You can do so while playing very cautiously. And, obviously, with more time, you can die and re-run more often. Could this potentially mean you can get higher on the ladder with a more bullheaded attitude? Maybe. All I know is I won't respect it and not consider it a proper playing of HC. I like HC specifically because it discourages rushing like an idiot.
Or, you won't really be rushing. I.e., you'll be playing like everyone else except you have more time to play, which isn't really that interesting.
So which one is it?

I don't anticipate being able to do inferno, or possibly even Hell without gearing up before hand, but as soon as I'm confident I'll be able to progress I will. If you have a different understanding of what rush means or than replace rush with a different term if that helps you.

I'm taking a week off for release so I'll likely get 80-90+ hours in on the first week, so I'll be in a similar "push! push! push! go! go! go!" mode. But not all at once like that lol that's just insane!
