as im sure many of you have herd the uk retailer announced today that they have gone into administration.

i my self and im sure many others are sad to hear this. i have worked there myself and have friends that work there.

while they are continuing to trade for the time being it would seem that the end is near if the deals with walmart and other company's looking to buy the game group do not go through. with games

1,279 stores across Europe and Australia the impact on the games industry would be terrible, game closing up shop would cause wide spread damage to gaming company's especially in the uk which host over 390 stores.

]how do you guys think that the closing of the game group stores will effect the games industry including blizzard and diablo 3?

It will have absolutely no effect on sales considering it is a retailer. I know this might come as a suprise to you but gamers don't buy a game because they want to support a store they do it because t hey want the game and odds are most of the games bought aren't cause you are in the store and goes oh well I will buy this. So sure this is sad for the people losing their jobs but on a larger scale it won't do fuck all.
Lets be fair the vast majority of gamers either buy the game online or they will buy it becaues they are buying something else most likely not because they are "suddenly" in a game shop and want to buy something

Oh and just fyi I don't think there is a game in my country so I guess that is part of the reason I don't care.

There is a "Game" store in my town centre but when you compare it to online prices it very rarely wins. Although I must say i've bought both my ps3's from there. (granted 5-6 years apart after the first one stoped working.)
Those were the only 2 purchases I made from the store in roughly 10 years, everything else has been Online Shops or Steam.

I usually check the stores for games,  and the backsides of them.... just to buy them online eventually.
Price difference of +- 30 euro's .... i'll rather get the game without the box then... it's a ripoff..
Beside that i'm getting the D3 CE from the store...

OT:   It won't influence the selling of D3 a single bit , i'm positive, as Zera said as well.

I think it will have little impact on pc gaming at all, as Game appeared to more or less abandon the pc market a few years ago. The rumour was that they refused to stock any games that used Steam, e.g. for online activation or achievements, as they felt that providing a rival service on the game disks was detrimental to their business model. They may have had a point, but it seems to be a short sighted move, as they simply hastened their own irrelevance.

I'm very sorry for the staff that are likely to lose their jobs, but I find it hard to care about the company itself. I got a little tired of walking past rows and rows of console games to see a couple of dozen B and C grade pc games gathering dust in the corner.

I feel for those who lost their jobs, but D3 sales wont be affected. Those who wants this game will buy regardless from where - there are LOADS of places, including Blizz itself.

Just a heads up to those in Australia who shop at GAME. No official word has been made yet. They operate independantely of GAME UK. I wonder if it will disrupt any orders of D3 or D3 CE people have made.

I saw this coming a few weeks ago, so now I'm very glad I switched my CE order from Game to Amazon.co.uk. I posted a warning up for other UK buyers at the time, and another one last week, so hopefully if Game does fall apart and fail on pre-orders, no one from DFans will suffer and lose their CE.

Did the exact same, switched my order to amazon as soon as the CE went up.  also mentioned about GAME in the other thread.
I would imagine GAME wont be getting any copies of d3, so if you have pre ordered a copy from there, best to get out while you can.

I was in yesterday to use up all the points i had saved on my card (got 4 games out of it) My friend is a manager off one of the stores and he was saying it was a good idea to cancel my pre order.
Basically he was saying that first off, all the big releases wont be coming to GAME, and second the games that do come to GAME are a limited stock and spread out over what ever stores they can be spread out over, so getting new releases are difficult.

I hope people from the uk and Australia have read the info and went with a more stable supplier. GL to all of you.

I'm not a loyal customer. Wherever I can find the game I want for the lowest possible price - that's where I'll get it. And it's never ever been at Game. The market is oversaturated with game retailers, so eventually someone had to go. There's plenty of other retailers to turn to for the end consumer. So the gaming industry won't be affected much by this, if at all. It's always sad when people lose their jobs like this though.

It is only GAME UK that is affected (so far) so i would not hit the panic switch just yet, although the lack of information in regards to the other regions is not exactly assuring. Talked with my local store a week ago, said they are not going to be affected as it looks right now. I would suggest you talk to your local GAME store if you have concerns about a preorder though.

It is a shame to be honest, have always been treated good as a customer at them. And yeah, i do value that higher then a few euro in price differences.

its actually the game group that has gone into administration so it will effect all shops sooner or later (i belive, but dont quote me on this), every one here seems to be of the same opinion and i cant see why i relies that alot of people buy games online and that fine but people here seem to think that's what all gamer do, that's not the case.

In Plymouth where i live we have 3 shops you can get new games in (not including supermarkets) and that game, another game, and gamestation (owned by game) so if all those shops shut i instantly lose my ability to brows through games when i go to town, also shops advertised games, if someone dosent know about a game (say d3 as an example) and they walk through town you can be sure they would see advertising for it in the shops and this may draw there attention and lead to a sale, and this happens ALOT maybe more in England then other country.

i am 100% sure that if game falls it is gonna have a bigger impact then people realize. and maybe pc gameing will have the least problems due to digital downloads and steam and such buy beleve me there are 1000's of people that shop in game (such as mums and even grandparents) that are not just gonna say "ah no worries ill just jump online"

do no one else see what i mean?

(as for my CE preorder looks unlikely to happen lol but ill get one els where if i must, for now im gonna have faith that someone will buy the company)
