The Beta servers were empty...  Save for Bashiok, the arbiter of forums, member of the Blizzard council which ruled over the fandom.  He implored the developers to follow through with the their patch in the western realms.  Though the mortal devs heeded the advice of Bashiok, it was too late. Diablo had manage to corrupt the servers, removing the last vestiges of hope that the patch would be released overnight.

There, in the lands where no fanboy has trod, Diablo sealed his victory by smashing the Servers upon the Hellforge, consigning our world with darkness and further delays.
