Really for me it doesn't matter that much in the end, it's functional and get the job done but here is my feeling:

This UI is garbage imo:

1. Having to scroll through pages that only show 4 or 5 skills to find the ones you seek is a loss of time (in non noob mode).

2. It is also WAY too big for just 4 skill at a time (+passives)

3. It is REALLY annoying to "seek" the different runes you have unlocked, looking at future unlocks etc. because you cannot easily navigate to every skill at once: some slots cannot accept some skills (even in non noob mode) therefore you cannot look at the runes of this skill while having selected this slot, you must chose another slot JUST to look at this spell. Same thing happens when you try to look at runes of a spell you have already selected, since you cant assign a spell to 2 different slots you must go to the slot you have selected the spell just to look at runes.

What I'd like:

1,2. For point 1 and 2 Really I would have liked all skill displayed at the same time with tiny color icon below each skill icon that shows what runes are available, then if Blizzard really insist on it, just draw lines to split skills in category. This would both make the UI smaller and not require you to scroll pages.
For the noob version just highlight the category of the slot and darken other skills.
For runes when you select a skill another small window pops with the different runes.

3. Elective mode should remove EVERYTHING about any limitation. I mean no more skills that cannot be assigned to mouse button and the possibility to assign a spell twice. This would at least eliminate point 3.

4. Last idea, do something like I described for pros, keep this shit for noobs.

In the end this doesn't make or break the experience and the game is great, runes add a lot imo, but really this UI is soooo clumsy that it is not worth of a "our best idea" material.

With how cumbersome it is to use, they could probably go ahead and take off the skill switch CD, lol

I really miss the old set up. It was really nice.

You say it doesn't break the experience, but imo it does. I'm disgusted everytime I open the menu and try to navigate it, or try to look at my options, or anything. Its absolutely, incredibly bad, so much that the first time I saw it and realized I couldn't bind what I wanted anywhere, I quit. Thats actually how I react to other games with such crappy UI or systems: If you don't get basic stuff right, I expect the worse out of the game and immediately want to stop playing.

The only reason I came back is because I know D3 is fun to actually play. But that doesn't help how bad it is. I mean, there's bad, there's really bad, and then somewhere deep down there's this UI. I've been expressing disgust for a lot of smaller things, so I don't know how I can exaggerate my point enough for how I feel about this horror.

It's fairly obvious it's still a work in progress. Don't get your panties in a twist, it'll probably change 10 more times before release.

Maybe, like Bnet for sc2 right ? xD

Oh at least now you can activate advanced tooltips in the options.

I've used it in my beta copy, it's clumbersome and clunky. It's not efficent to easily go through your skills like the old window. I like how the runes themselves were changed but this UI isn't very good and it's getting a bit irritating just how much Blizzard is focusing on making this game for people who have never played a Diablo series before.

I like the RUNE system more, but in terms of interface?  I'm not a fan as yet :S.

Issues I have:
1) Since runes unlock in a specific order, it sets up a hierarchy among them - new players may think that the higher the level it takes to unlock a rune, the better that rune is.

2) You can't see all your skills at once like you could before.  I think that being able to have a broad idea of all your options at once is something that Blizzard should find a way to work back into the current interface.

3) It's just plain clunky-looking :S.

It's horrendous, plain and simple.

Also not a fan of the "lets just have everyone unlock 100 skills by 60 and call it "runes" herp derp".

Just adding 2 more points:

It doesnt allow you to quickly and easily compare between skills. With all these skills, we'll be spending a lot of time comparing one skill against another (including the runed ones) and currently it makes that very difficult. It's also tedious and time consuming to switch skills around between your 2 mouse buttons and keys.

There's currently a lot of negative response on the official forum right now, and some people are claiming that it's done to suit consoles... I'm not sure if I would go to that extreme, I see this and the decision of the simple tool-tips (which no one uses) as Blizzard taking their "easy to play" philosophy beyond reasonable means.

Sure they want players to easily understand the game, but for anyone who's willing to spend 60 dollars on a game would be somewhat interested in Diablo, and would either have some gaming experience or be willing to spend time to figure some of the mechanics out themselves.

Hey there, 1st post here, so welcome :)

I would like to add, that for me the new UI is really too big, it covers almost the entire screen. I dont know why they changed it so much. I used my paint skills to show you guys how I would like to see skills+runes UI ==> http://i.imgur.com/nLnIl.jpg
when you click on the hotkey for skill, first window would appear (numers are at the right down corner :P). then, you pick a slot or a skill that you want to change and then 2nd window pops out (scrollable up/down). Same mechanic as before - you pick a skill you want to add and if there are any available runes 3rd window will show them to us.

What do you guys think? Would it be better or not?

Sorry for my english skills, I think my paint skills are much better :D

Think it will get reworked to meet those issues.
Just like many other stuff did so far. Bet it will be solved with awesomeness (talking about blizzard here) :P

You put too much faith in Blizzard really. Having played WoW for a long time I had my share of never fixed bugs, clunky UI not fixed before 2 years etc...

We will see but I'm definetly doubtful it will change (maybe in patch or expansion though). For me the current beta content is almost retail material. At best we will get small changes.

STFU already so that they can just launch that damn game. Complaining will only bring more delay.

I disagree, the beta is there so that they can release the best content that they can, the better the complaints the better they can fix it the better the game will become.

I agree with a lot of what is being said. it seems like they've tried to dumb it down, and in the process ended up fizzling out on what they were intending on doing. My guess is that there intentions were to make it so that nooblet could walking into the game level up and be given skills in an order that Blizzard deemed a satisfying learning curve. I'm all for helping the new guy learn the game but I think there is an easier way of presenting the information that they are trying to get across to the player. Perhaps an amalgamation of the previous system and the new system. Have this orientated horizontally and give descriptions given beside skills and then runes popping in circles much like they have on the skill calculator on the website.

Doing it this way they can appease new players by still titling things but making it easier for the higher level player to navigate by streamlining the excess pages.

In all honesty, I'm probably one of the only forums rats that follows this game that likes every aspect of it.

Every time Blizzard announces a major change like this it just re-confirms how much thought they really do put into creating a solid, polished game to release. It's also more evidence that the, "release it now, patch it later" crowd is wrong.

There's already much farming involved with items. I don't wanna farm for 10 years just to get the build i want and i don't wan't either to buy runes with real cash. Stop complaining over runes and get over it.

It's a pain to even look at the new skill ui, let alone use it.
