Just when we thought that news on Diablo III had ground to a halt, Blizzard comes at us with another snippet of information.

Official Blizzard Quote:

Diablo: Artists are pushing to create lots of Unique weapons. Nothing we'll show off just yet

So it's confirmed! Unique items will, in the tradition of both Diablo games, have their own unique animations to go along with them.

In the case of Diablo I and II, nearly every unique weapon had its own alternative icon, such as the Jade Tan Do, or the Soul Harvest. Some unique items didn't have their own icons of course, but for the most part, they were grand, powerful looking weapons far beyond the plain items they were based on.

However, this unique-appearance did not extend beyond the inventory, it still looked like the rest of the items when actually equipped on your character. The system now, however, seems to use the same models in-inventory, and on-character. Basically, this means that how it appears in your inventory, is how it will appear on your character.

No longer will your DiabloWiki.com - BonesnapBonesnap look like the rest of the run of the mill mauls, it will look unique on your character!

That sounds amazing, Id love to see the one uniqu item that looks like the reapers scyth cyhillin in my necros (WD now) hand. The main thing I look forward to though is some unique looking rings, but I wonder if theyll go as far as those being diff on fingers too, or just in the inv.

I can imagine people collecting uniques on mules now souly for the purpose of making your character look different 10 differnt times... I cant wait!

That could be possible, but I think it sone mechanic, so if they change when equiped, they should on "Followers" I would think, its a graphic appearing over the character graphic. A difference would be like in Diablo 1 where the warriors armor set, he wealked with helmet in hand in town, but I think it would be easy to do to the followers.

Well, it'd be a whole lot easier in D3. If it were like that in D2, I'd guess ~2000 new pixel drawings would have to be made for each character to wield and swing and cast and block and run and turn with it. In D3, you just make the model, rig it, and you're good to go. The animations are preset and the graphics only have to be made once.

So even though it's friggin' awesome, you can't really blame the previous D games for not doing it. :S

No, not per character, you can do it as a simple graphic covering. Placing one graphic in front of another is as easy as it is id assume. Theyd be doing one image per item instead of 5 for each class, and then expansions..

It would have been annoying if they did anything less than that. Its quite a long way from D2. So they had better do some new cool stuff. Doubt you will see any rings though..from an isometric view...unless they do something like the Green Lantern (DC comics guy) lol...

I don't really consider this news, it was a pretty obvious move. It didn't matter so much in D2 because of the lower graphics and stuff, character appearance wasn't of much importance (imo). But it looks like way more awesomeness to look cool and unique in D3.

I hope lots doesn't mean "we have 100.000 uniques here, but you'll find 5 useful by endgame, 1 for each class"

I really hope the learned the lesson from D2.

I love Diablo 3's art style. I love the direction this game is going. I can't wait to play Diablo 3.

There were many useless uniques, not only because they were too low level, but 5 out of 100K is a bit much :P I can find at least 5 good end-game uniques for each build.

Unfortunately these good end-game uniques are pretty much the same for all builds.

I hope the stats of uniques items will more looks like d1 than d2. I explain, in d1 all unique are very unique (we can't compare it with others items) uniques are extremely unique in them stats, it's very special and very different from others items. In d2, unique have almost the same stat than normal magic items. In d2 I can separe unique in two groups, useless unique and extremely too over powerfull unique. The very powerful items are good only because of big boosted stats not because it's special in them kind.

That doesn't work if not every character swings it and walks with it the same way. Look at the assassin. She holds things behind her as she runs like no other class does.

The weapons aren't swung exactly the same arcs from different points on every character, I don't think.
