As first reported here by one of our own users, there is not going to be a World Wide Invitational 2009. However, it seems that we will still have the privilege of a nice, big BlizzCon 2009, as per the following quote from http://davidluong.net/, a website owned by a Diablo III cinematic developer:

Quote

"BlizzCon 2009 has also been announced, bigger, and better than the previous, this round it will take up the entire Anaheim Convention center! August 21-22, save the dates! Tickets will be on sale soon, buy them fast, they go record breakingly quick. There will be no Worldwide Invitational this year, as it will be combined with Blizzcon, so there will be even bigger tournaments and competitions this year."
A special thanks goes out to minsc&boo for chancing upon this jewel and posting it on our forums!

So, how does everyone feel about this? Will anyone miss the WWI? Or will the grandeur of a bigger, better BlizzCon make up for it? What is everyone hoping will happen at this year's BlizzCon?

Hey, the sooner they can give us loads of info the better. If anything, I think this is maybe better since it will almost force them to tell us more. Thanks minsc&boo for finding this.

Thank God Blizzcon is expanding, that is all I have to say.

They better double the amount of new and exciting announcements to make up for it! *shakes fist*

Anyway, I suppose one could argue it technically would have been the US's turn to have the WWI, so I see no reason not to simply merge the two this year.

Well, the loss of WWI 2009 really sucks for us as we'd probably have gotten to see a new build of D3 and finally get some more information. You also have to consider that Blizzard isn't taking part in E3 or TGS (They also only had a speaking part at GDC 2009) either so they are putting all of their eggs in the Blizzcon bag. So, besides the basic trickle of information we get we'll have to wait until August 21-22 for Blizzcon 2009 to see something. I personally find this pretty unacceptable, but I have no say-so in the company or development cycle so my opinion means diddly.

The only reason there is no WWI 2009 is because it was scheduled to be in Shanghai this year and Blizzard recently hss had a lot of problems with the Chinese Government and The9. That is why NetEase is the new Publisher of WoW and all Blizzard products in China now.

Well, seeing as the last Blizzcon was packed within days of ticket sales, and they even offered more afterward and they were gone instantly, I don't think they have much to worry about. People kill to get in to their events. They have the hearts and minds of many, many fans in just their three current franchises. I'm willing to bet that they're going to announce one of their two undisclosed titles at the Blizzcon this year.

I'm definitely disappointed that there won't be a WWI 2009. Was hoping to attend it and hopefully meet up with some of the other Diablo fans from around the globe. But yeah, BlizzCon is definitely going to be great!

Sucks enormously. The only time they give out meaningful information is at these big shows. Having to wait once every year to hear anything is balls.

I somehow doubt they're going to unveil both classes at Blizzcon.

Well, that's if you would like to naively assume that this Blizzcon will be just like any other with the WWI not happening this year, in which case I'd wager you're completely off your rocker. There's no way in the world that they would ever pass up the chance to exploit a WWI that would be

combined with Blizzcon

So, you're getting the WWI and the Blizzcon at the same time. Twice the goodness, albeit shorter lived. It isn't "just" the Blizzcon, it's a bigger Blizzcon fused with the WWI ;)

Both BlizzCon and the WWI are very important. Most probably, a class would be shown in both, if they would be seperate, but i dont see two classes announced at once, even though the both are "merged", so i think that it wouldve been better if they'd be seperate.

Whatever, lets just wait for BlizzCon to see the next class... God knows when we will see the final one. >_<

Well, I wouldn't want them both announced in the same year, since we probably still have a year or two to go after this one, anyway :P

Yeah, we've been nibbling at the same tiny bits of information for far too long now. I don't understand why Blizzard unleashed torrents of information after the games' announcements, shortly followed by great updates, and then everything just kind of died. It's like they suddenly stopped caring about the fans. Maybe all of that hubbub about art direction for the games made them decide to stop giving us samples of the unfinished work?

I think it's more just they're busy working on stuff now. Where as before they had a ton of new stuff to talk about.

Well, ofcourse they give us information after the big announcements because they dont want to give us "maybe" or "we dont know" its better to just be silent and give us true information so we dont have false hopes. Sure i agree its annoying but getting information that might not be the final desition would be more annoying wouldnt it?

if they keep updating us once a week with small information pieces there wouldnt be anything left when the game is released and how fun would that be, i really hope they keep some things secret and let us discover them ourselves when the game is released!

Back to the topic(sry for going off topic). Im really looking forward to blizzcon and its sad that WWI is canceld, though blizzard told us that we will get a bigger better blizzcon so i guess that makes up for it. Its allso sad that i cannot attend.. i've already booked my vacation with my girlfriend so i got no money to go to blizzcon:P maybe next year.

OBS! Im jellous of you all that can attend to blizzcon! lucky fukkas
