Ever since I first saw it at BlizzCon 2008, I've expressed my adoration for the homemade Diablo 3 rainbow t-shirts that some Blizzard staffers wore to the event. I've also talked about how I want one of those shirts for myself. I also held a poll to see just how many of you would like the shirt, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Well, it turns out that Nerdy Shirts has just produced their own copy of the rainbowtacular shirt that so many of us have been dying to get our hands on.

Unfortunately, as you can see in the comparison above, while the design remains the same a lot of the colors/details have been lost. The shading which gave it that perfectly childish puffy 3D quality is gone, and the unicorns are now both blue instead of pink and purple. Personally, I'm going to hold out in hopes that we'll eventually see the original design make its way onto an t-shirt available in the official Blizzard online shop. This new shirt just isn't cutting it for me. It looks too cheap with the lacking colors. However, for those of you who just can't wait for the real shirt to come along, at least you have an alternative choice now.

So for those of you who wanted the rainbow shirt, are you going to buy this one or are you going to be like me and hold out for the original style?

I think I'll hold out for the more detailed one... But if they never make that version, I suppose I'd settle for the other one...

Im definately gonna wait for the real thing. These fakes are REALLY tasteless! :necro: I mean like... whats wrong with pink and purple, right? Seriously, I think the cuteness really fits with D3 and If I could somehow find a waypoint to take me to the USA I would surely get one (a REAL one!) when I go to blizzcon. I really hate fakeness and copies, I always want the real thing!

My overall upset with it; loss of shading with unicorns and sun. Too vivid. But still nice to see someone trying!

Lets make a petition for them to change the art direction of the t-shirt

No, then it would be dark. It's trying to be the antithesis of dark.

It just looks a bit too tacky and cheap. The colours/shading on the newer shirt just don't cut it for me. Im gona hold out and hope blizzard release their offical shirt.

Do you suppose there are copyright issues with being able to copy the design perfectly? Because I'm able to re-create the original exactly and offer it as a t-shirt... but would Blizzard then sue me into the ground for selling them?

Ive been checking this site for a year or so, finally made this account to say - they changed the colors because its A. costs more to print more than 3 colors, B. because its symmetrical, C. copyright issues...

yea but as it is, it's clearly just a joke. If the shirt was black though, it'll be more serious. Plus I'd only buy it if it was black.

And I assume it's banned to do one by yourself? What's the problem to do that in some graphic programme? :)

cheers

Nope, i dont like it. The art style of the new design doesnt stay true to the original. They have to stick to the same "spirit" as the first one.
