The latest panel from BlizzCon has been about Starcraft 2. The big news is that the campaign will be split into three separate parts, each being sold as a stand alone game. (people were booing this decision)
This is to ensure a faster release and a more polished campaign. Each of these will feature the same multiplayer experience, however you will have to purchase a separate product to play each of the campaigns.
In other big news, it was also announced the Warcraft 4 will use the same sort of system, which basically confirmed that Warcraft 4 is in the works!
WCIV? Technically WOW is WCIV, it carries on the story.
That's like doing a Diablo 2.5, something in between LOD and D3.
I do not have time to study the links thoroughly, but you sure its not talking about a trilogy of books.
SCII cannot be a triliogy. You can have a trilogy of books about SCII. Starcraft can be a trilogy. SCII can have a trilogy of expansions (WOW has a pentilogy of expansions).
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is not a Trilogy, it is in a Trilogy.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
WC 4 should be interesting to watch develop. Which route is it going? Gonna be an MMO again or is it gonna follow the same path as 1,2 and 3? Interesting stuff. As far as SC 2 so that means a person that purchases say protoss can only play protoss and not zerg or terran? if thats the case thats the stupidest idea ive heard yet, a bitch move to make more money
It's Warcraft IV. It would be the same genre are the previous 3.
I am hard pressed to find a series where the sequels, true sequels are a different genre, and are not some sort of spin off like WOW.
WC1= RTS
WC2 = RTS
WC3 = RTS
WC4 will be an RTS
WOW, while it does serve as the end of the series, serves as a side project or stand alone series. While it carries the name "Warcraft" and has many of the same characters, it is not part of the original series. So is not a true sequel. Same with Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. It carries the Baldur's Gate name, and has some of the same characters, and is set after the orginal series, but is not truly part of it.

doubt they would market SCII trilogy as full game price each!
They're gonna sell Terran at full price, Zerg at half price (requires terran to play), same with protoss.

GamesOn.net has a write up of the panel, as well as the news of the trilogy.

By the way, if you just wanted to play Battle.net, can you just purchase one of the games of SC2?

Still making a sh*tload of money in the process.
