DatH responded there will be a digital download option soon to buy Diablo II and its Lord of Destruction expansion.

The recent Diablo II patch 1.12a seems to imply a minor patch is already in the works. This has not been confirmed yet. It is not common to name a recently released patch such as 1.12a with the 'a' at the end, unless there are plans to release 1.12b. Stay tuned.

Thanks, CNSaber

Mhh ok so what will this help with, can you explain, I mean you basically by the game code and then download the game and install it. But what's the point in doing so? I mean the big rush on the game is already over and we all have the game bought already.

Just wondering, thanks for the answer, and the always current kept News :)

Off topic: Hey MD, I got the word that diablo3.com isn't working for some people in europe, do you have any idea of if Blizz has finally took the domain?

On topic: Great news, if only I didn't already have a virtual copy of D2 LOD.

Anyways I wonder what else they're going to include in the patch, new monster? new runewords? or simply fixing some bugs.

By making the game Digital download, if you lost your CD now that the no-CD patch was implemented you can purchase Diablo II via digital download instead of buying a CD off ebay or from a store.

Also newcomers to the Diablo franchise are now able to download.  I am a heavy collector of Warcraft novels, and all its previous games, and on 2004, I purchased Diablo II and LOD.

Naturally there is a portion of Blizzard fans who have never played Diablo, and if they wished to purchase it they can do so now straight from Blizzard via digital download.

This benefits many types of fans' technical needs and issues.

This is already in discussion at another thread.  I said in said thread that this looks like a typical DNS domain name transfer behavior.  I haven't confirmed Mockery has done this yet. I haven't interacted with Mockery in like 2-3 weeks.

Usually during a domain name transfer the people living in the immediate area will notice the DNS change right away.  While those who live further continue to see the domain name working as normal.  Around noon, I could still see diablo3.com pointing to diablofans.com (I live on US East Coast).  It is past 6pm and now Diablo3.com went to limbo with a blank page and errors.  Sometimes even get a google search page.

If there is any domain name transfer updates, you will read them on the Diablofans.com News Section.  I contacted Mockery and Jetrall on this matter in case it is a technical problem.

I hope that Blizzard will do the same thing with their future titles, but as soon as it gets out. That way I won't have to lift my fat @$$ off my chair and go to store to buy a copy.

I'm sure you'll let us know when it will be avaiable.

Thanks again for all :)

well, this sure is cool cause it makes it easyer for people to buy diablo in case of sudden "interest", as in:

"oh diablo 3 is out? i never played any diablo game, OH look at that, a digital download, i guess i'll try it out"

hahahah every excuse to think of D3 is a good excuse i guess :p

Where does it say that this is patch 1.12a? all i can see is its patch 1.12 at the bottom left of the main menu.

It's great that the digital downloads are coming out now, because i recently descovered that my dog likes the taste of diablo...  and i have no way of getting the MPQ files

i can get diablo 2 and lod with a box and save 20$ that's kinda of expensive.
The "1.12a" version was posted in the forums posted by a moderator ,at bnet i think.Though ingame it only appears as 1.12 , there must be something to this, or maybe not.

So I still don't understand will we have to purchase it first and then we will get a download link? Or first download and then purchase the key?
Would that mean if you lost of have a broken cd that you can still download it then and just enter your key for the game you purchased years ago, or do you have to re-purchase it again?

Does it matter? Since I'm assuming you already have the game lol =P

From my experience, you purchase the software and you get a download link. So yes I believe you will have to repurchase the digital version.

The 1.12a concept mentioned in the news article comes from the title the Blizzard Tech Support representative used in that forum thread.

He titled it as:

Diablo II Patch v1.12a Released!

Unless that was a typo, this can be interpreted as there are plans for 1.12b -- because It is not usual to call recently released patches with letters "a".

Well it is a turn off for possible new buyers , i've seen more recent games on steam being sold by 37 $ And when i mean by more recent i mean THE ORANGE BOX. (about 4 games)D2+LoD=40 $. Call me crazy but that's freakin expensive.
