I think even though one may be the official lore, while the other is not, that doesn't mean that the one that isn't can't still compliment the official lore.

And since the first Diablo game, the Diablo story has really expanded. There are even contradictions between the manuals for the first two games, but I don't mind so much because I like to try and come up with clever explanations as to why those contradictions exist.

You can even think of it like in Morrowind if you wish. Where there was the battle at Red Mountain and how many different sides have different accounts of what really happened on that day.

I dont know...maybe Bliz is trying to see if the public will notice something is up and they are trying to create hype about it. Maybe if they see a massive amount of hype, they will take that variable and add it to the solution (D3 production)

Many of us have expressed a great interest in seeing and/or confronting Inarius. If I'm not mistaken, in the first Diablo game he was originally supposed to be one of the bosses but Inarius was one of the many things that was ultimately cut from the game.

Inarius + Belial + Azmodan + Possible ressurection of Prime Evils or at least Diablo = Sequel.

I still have yet to read the Veiled Prophet. But once I do, I hope to skim over the books and manuals and look for any major inconsistencies. I'm willing to bet there aren't even that many; just some key ones is all. But it was nice of Knaak to consider the Diablo community in this matter because that shows they are aware that there are a great deal of us who do care a lot about Diablo lore as opposed to merely the gameplay itself.

The Veiled Prophet reveals a ton of Diablo lore and explained alot for me. It definately has a confrontation with Inarius, and the end really explains why Sanctuary is the way it is, and why Tyrael is on our side. I won't say much, but those three books I think is the proper way to go on the lore issue, I loved it. Though there could have been more description and depth, it was awesome.

Adding to the lore = Opening for sequel's storylines = Good = Diablogasm
Im yet to read the sin war trilogy.... Diablo II is distracting me

In my opinion, changes in a story are sometimes necessary. However, I really hope they don't alter the background of Inarius too much. That is my personal favorite exerpt out of all the lore of the Diablo series, and it would be quite a blow. If it has to be done, I'm sure it will be for the better.

I just finished reading The Sin War, and then I went back over the manuals to see the difference, and I really can't find any. Could someone point them out? All I know is that the manuals generally say that 'The Sin War' is the war of Angels and Demons fighting over humanity, but then the books go into actual detail of how it all started and seem like an accurate account of what happened.  The manuals just seem to be put-together peices of small bits of information that some scholars have gathered together.  The Sin War makes it so much cooler.

By the way, I've now started reading Moon of the Spider, but I don't like it anywhere near as much as I love The Sin War.  I love TSW cause it introduces everything and how Sanctuary came to be, while MotS is already in an established world.  I have a thing for introductions, you see.

Edit: Oh, and please don't go into the whole 'does D3 exist?' debate again. I'm so sick of it, and I'm sure everyone else is. This is about the lore of Diablo (and how freaking awesome it is).  And come one, this is Blizzard we are talking about. Every game of theirs is good, don't doubt a new D game wouldn't be.

Just finished reading the Sin War ;

It's cool what they've done, but I like the originality in the ... original ... lore better.

I hate what they did with WoW. It screwed up everything.

I don't know whether or not and how big is the change on the originally conceived Diablo lore since I haven't read the SW trilogy that everyone refers to (just the first three that came out + demonsbane-which actually sucked), yet some kind of unease got me whilst reading Knaak's reply. He didn't seem quite happy about the change, though why should he be- he wrote it, for crying out loud, butta, maybe he just didn't have time to make a complete answer and all.
