Why are the Nephalem So Powerful?
The Curse video team has created a new Diablo video focusing on the strength of the Nephalem.
D&D Beyond Launch
D&D Beyond, the official 5th edition toolset for Dungeons & Dragons, has now officially launched. Check it out here.
So in short, I hope D4 takes place between D1 and D2 since then the game will feel like a real Diablo game again.
I am sick of this Hello-Kity-Super-Heroes Ultra-Powerful Anime BS.
in D2 we were normal mercenaries that happen to venture through Tristram, only to learn of what was happening in the world.
We learned that The Devil has corrupted the world and that Angels are trying to prevent Evil from becoming too powerful. It was a Biblical approach to Good vs Evil. It was beautiful, and I LOVED that it had real biblical implications. The world was set in a medieval Gothic landscape, very close to reality, and if you understand the Christian Bible, then you will understand that it wasn't Super-hero BS or overly Fictional. It was simply a biblical take on good vs evil, and we were normal mortals, that stepped up to fight evil.
I hope D4 goes back to that kind of story, since i am sick of this super-hero BS with angel wings growing from our shoulders and BS like that.
I also hope D4's story will be much more lose and "light" like in D2, where we were given a medieval gothic setting where good was in conflict with evil.
I really hope D4 will not bring more of this D3 story hello-kitty clown-fiesta BS.
IN DIABLO - LESS STORY IS INDEED MORE!
So annoyed by this made-up BS storyline by some Blizzard writers that cannot help it but to ruin the medieval gothic horror genre so many of us call our favorite franchise, until D3 came along. NO MORE!
I completely agree that less "story" is "more".
However, I see that a fair majority of Diablo fans missed the trilogy of books before Diablo 3 was released. These books placed a line into the lore that made since and solidified the element that "49.5% is The Burning Hells, while 49.5% are the Holy Heavens". This leaves 1% of the balance of power to Sanctuary.... This was a great starting point for Diablo 3, much like the early videos showed a truly dark world.... Then came the "we need color" elements to the design philosophy. Then we all saw how that played.
But, in defense of Diablo 3, RoS was amazing! We saw a neutral evil that made sense, a world that wasn't black and white anymore.... And what people seem to forget about the story, Malthael wiped out most of the population of Sanctuary RoS even ending with Tyrael unsure of whether or not the "true" evil is vanquished by being surprised by the nephalem.... The Book of Cain and Book of Tyrael have huge hints about nephalem with powers....
Then there's my favorite bit of lore of Diablo from 1:
Mephisto himself is said to have appeared at the cathedral of Inarius. He laid waste to the church and the surrounding
countryside. The Lord of Hatred took the proud archangel and his
followers captive. He bound Inarius with tremendous chains and slowly
tore the wings from the back of the angel. Great barbed hooks were then
used to stretch out the once glowing skin and his features were
distorted by vile powers. Many of the followers of Inarius were given as
gifts to Baal and Diablo, but the rest were molded to match the bloated
image of the now crippled angel. To this day, Inarius is said to be
trapped in Hell within a chamber of mirrors, his eyelids torn from his
face as he is forced to gaze upon his misshapen form for all eternity.
His misguided followers now serve as Hell's taskmasters, taking the
anguish of their lost glory out upon the bodies of others.
Not to mention in game it says that past Nephalem were so powerful they were worshipped as gods.
Yes correct
I think also since they officially named the Diablo 3 Nephalem in Heroes of the Storm they will definitely play a big role in Diablo 4. Maybe we'll have to fight all of them at once or something.
There is no problem with people enjoying fantasy books. It's a problem however when Blizzard tries to turn Diablo into a Game of Thrones Clown Fiesta.
Diablo is about picking up weapons and armor on your journey to defeat evil, while adventuring through a medieval Gothic world. THAT IS IT.
There is no need for a storyline to every fart and burp in the game performed by its overly "developed" characters. Too much story takes away from the Diablo experience, and D3 has proven that beyond repair. Then they went full-retard and removed the story all together by making the regular diablo world not worth exploring (by making "story-mode" obsolete).
Because Metzen happened, that's why. He just applied his usual western-comic-protagonist-superhero when he got his hands on the Diablo universe in D3. There's nothing more to it, really.
Yeah thats also true. I feel very sorry for Metzen.
Metzen is an introvert, trying so so hard to appear as extrovert and a "Leader", when his true nature is no such thing. He simply burned out pretending and also suffered massively to anxieties as a result of playing someone he is not. All the Blizzcons and other stage-events where he would attempt to WOW-UP the crowd with various success. He must have thought that fans expected the devs to live up to the "epicness" of the game (WOW) itself, so he tried hard.
I think he also eventually realized among other people at Blizzard that his own and the WOW era are inevitably coming to and end, and that new people needed to step in, in order to have the slightest chance to push Blizzard to the next level.
I hope Metzen finds peace at home with his family, where he can finally be his true self. What he put himself through must have been exhausting beyond imagination for us.
