Shadow's Mantle & Grievous Wounds
Nevalistis replied to a thread about a specific interaction between the Impale rune Grievous Wounds and the Shadow's Mantle set. The extra critical hit damage is indeed not meant to work with the set, in order to preserve rune diversity and choice. Read more below.

Players shouldn't feel punished because of their set bonus if they'd rather use another rune or element.
I was testing the damage modifiers on shadows 6 piece and I came across a bug.
Impale - Grievous Wounds applies an extra 330% CHD on crit, but when this rune is used with Shadow's 6 Piece bonus it does not apply the extra CHD. The bonus is still active while using 2 or 4 pieces but becomes inactive with 6.

On the flip side, the other issue you mention with Convention of Elements does appear to be a bug. The 6-piece bonus of Shadow's Mantle is intended to deal the elemental type of whatever Impale rune is selected, thereby benefitting from Convention of Elements when the appropriate element is active. We've put in a report for this and will be investigating it.
Updated Raekor Immortal Guide
Rhykker has published an update to his PTR Raekor guide, going over the details of what seems to be the strongest spec for pushing higher Greater Rifts on 2.4. With Furious Charge animation able to cancelled, this is not only a top tier build but also a lot of fun to play as! Check it out.
There already is a mathematically correct choice, it's the ricochet rune. I can't believe the load of shit they can say. They don't even understand their own game.
"This is to preserve diversity rather than leave one rune as the obvious, mathematically correct choice" Ha, tell that to monk's EP and SSS.
Almost every skill in the game has a rune that is much superior than the other ones, some skills might have a couple of runes that are usable for different situations, but given a specific build, there will always be the mathematically correct choice, and in this case, instead of trying to fix or balance the runes they've just ignored the damage bonuses, leaving that rune as totally useless, and it didn't solve the problem, it just shifted which one is the most powerful rune. The truth is, it's impossible to create a balance, there'll always be a mathematically correct choice, whether are skills, runes, sets or items, it's impossible to have a perfect balance.
"Players shouldn't feel punished because of their set bonus if they'd rather use another rune or element."
Wow, that is literally retarded reasoning. Now they are punishing players who would like to use grievous wounds as their rune of choice, simply because it would be mathematically the best (or because they like the color). And with the removal of the rune there is the next rune that is mathematically the best and everyone uses.
The only thing this shows is that most runes are highly imbalanced and that there are cookie cutter builds everywhere without leaving a real choice.
There are a number of things incorrect with the Raekkor guide for true high level Greater Rift clearing.
rofl, what a joke
Fucking bullshit bluepost by a bullshit community manager or whatever. If this is their philosophy then why not fucking apply it to all the skills in game? Or at least to the fucking op imbalanced shit skills that are completely destroying any sort of diversity under certain circumstances... So stupid i can't believe it.
Wow, this blue post actually upsets me. This guy doesn't understand the way the game's been working for years. There is only one mathematically correct choice for every skill pertaining to any set. it's been that way since active skill set bonuses were a thing. FIX YOUR OBSOLETE SKILLS. There. Problem solved.
