Mortick's Brace vs Unhallowed Essence

An interesting discussion was happening on the official forums. Some users wondered why Mortick's Brace, which activated all the Wrath of the Berserker runes, was removed from the game due to being too powerful while other items or sets stayed despite being quite strong as well. Grimiku clarified the issue explaining what lead to Mortick's being removed. Read below.

In summary, though, we made the decision to remove Mortick's Brace from 2.2.0 about a week prior to the release of the patch. With their removal, we believe each class should be within a couple Greater Rift levels of one another (which would not have been the case if the item had gone live). This is in line with one of our goals for the patch, which was for each class to have two or three competitive builds capable of Greater Rift 50+.

Wyatt Cheng goes a bit more in depth on this decision (and the possible future of this item) in a recent(ish) video interview with Ziggy D, and you can jump straight to that discussion here.

Getting back on topic, while Unhallowed Essence is indeed very powerful, and fun to play, it wasn’t—and currently isn’t —creating a large disparity on the Solo Great Rift Leaderboards like Mortick’s Brace, which is why it wasn’t changed or removed. Even so, we’ll make sure to pass along your feedback about this particular set to our development team.

On that note, thank you for keeping this conversation a healthy one. I’ve been reading along, taking plenty of notes, and just wanted to jump in and let you know that we are listening. :)

John Yang's Barb

John Yang was always known as the developer that's most engaged in Diablo's end-game. To show that he recently tweeted an image of what seems to be his Spin-2-Win Barbarian on the leaderboards - he achieved rank 36 from a GR 54 clear. Pretty amazing feat - great job!

Kadala Simulator

benstepp developed a very interesting web app for Diablo players - a Kadala simulator. To have an idea what items you could get from gambling items with her, and how many "clicks" it would take to get them. It's still in development, but the current version is quite interesting already. Check it out!
