Hotfixes on Live and PTR
A couple hotfixes were pushed both on the 2.1.2 Live servers, as well as on the 2.2 PTR servers. The live ones are meant to fix Bul-Kathos Wedding Band ring snapshooting some bonuses, and Demon Hunters and Severs being an insane combination. The PTR fixes are just for a few skills that were benefitting twice the same activatable effect.

Protoss Probe Pet
We recently featured a couple new textures datamined from the PTR servers - one of them being a Starcraft Probe pet. A staff member recorded footage of it, and it looks awesome - check it out below.
Zero Empathy GR 63
We previously mentioned the synergy between Demon Hunters and the legendary Sever, recently hotfixed. It turns out clan Zero Empathy cleared a Greater Rift 63 with said strategy, and grabbed the 4-man worldwide rank #1 at Season 2. One of their members, Empyrian Gaming, uploaded footage of their playthrough and, while the strategy be seen as unworthy, their coordination is amazing to watch. Definitely check it out!
Blizzcon Reminder
Earlier today we got some news on this year's Blizzcon. It is going to take place at the traditional Anaheim Convention Center on November 6th and 7th, and tickets will be sold in two batches - the first on April 16th, and the second on April 18th. Make sure to check their detailed ticket purchasing guide. Click the banner below to see the announcement!
What the heck happened to the boss? I knew that Sever was bugged but this?
It's proc does an insane amount of damage but it only activates when you kill a monster which normally makes it all overkill and essentially cosmetic. With the marked for death rune it was doing 20% of that damage in an aoe around the monster when it dies which is clearly broken. These guys should at least lose their spot on the leaderboards and personally I'd like them banned.
banned? did they do something illegal? come on.
Yeah, I think bans would be a huge stretch - this isn't like the invulnerable Wizard bug/exploit. And resetting leaderboards is unheard of too, so I doubt that will happen.
Also, a Korean team managed to clear GR 67 on Non-Seasonal, as far as I'm aware without taking advantage of this Sever mechanic. Not sure if teams can get such high keys (GR 62+) without this mechanic, but if they can it's not a huge deal (since the keys won't be a "limited" commodity).
Either way, congratulations to them for figuring this out (kind of - more the math than the actual strat), having the persistence to fight RNG, and the coordination to pull it off. Big props to their sheer determination.
Bothers me that now the leaders boards are tainted with this bug, wont be reset and now makes it harder for legit players to try to get the top spot. I really do hope others can beat this legit. No congrats from me.
Yeah, this is the Sever + MfD: Grim Reaper, or should I say "was". They place everything on the mob while the Monk runs around gaining stacks of Tempest Rush: Flurry, which deals 15.000% Weapon Damage as Cold @ 100 Stacks, waiting for the right time to move in and place Exploding Palm: Impending Doom (6305% Damage explosion on death, potentially 12.610% with a perfect Fist of Az'Turrasq) + Unleash the Tempest Rush to finish off the mob and triggering Sever, Exploding Palm and Grim Reaper for an insane amount of purely retard damage.
Of course this isn't all there was to it, bonus damage from gems, other items, WD and Crusader skills and many other things that increase the damage, but what I explained was the base of what they did.
Well, same happened during Season 1 and I'm pretty sure something else will happen during S3. As long as they introduce new items and change abilities, there is always a chance that a new exploit appears, it is just how game design goes versus players that try to push the game beyond its limits.
You should congrat them anyway, even thought it makes things "easier" it doesn't remove the coordination requirement at all. IMHO, this kind of exploit doesn't remove the dignity and/or the value of the achievement, it just limits the competition to those willing to go through such roads.
They could not use it and keep things "legit", but there's always someone that doesn't, so I agree with them putting effort into this and congratz on achieving it!
Keep in mind this is Blizzard's fault, even though they don't make such things on purpose.
While banning would be harsh, they should at the very least remove their attempt from the leader boards. Kinda weird that they fix the bug and not rollback the people using it. I mean it's not like they didn't know what they were doing.
Not only did they cheat, but now diablofans give them a first page spot. Disgusting
This was not a cheat, nor an exploit. This was a mechanic that has been in the game for 3 years, has been previously reviewed by Blizzard and stated to be okay.
However, no one - especially not Blizzard, which is why they left it in before - thought of using this in the way ZE did. It made this toy mechanic too powerful. I personally am sad it's gone - Sever was a great weapon that now is useless once again. I understand that Blizzard doesn't want to trivialize boss fights, however, so does Zero Dog and that build is allowed to stay until 2.2... I think they should've fixed Sever with 2.2 as well.
Asking for bans or removal of leaderboard spots is outright ridiculous, there were so many real exploits that caused unfair advantages to many players (think about the gear swap trial exploit in January, chest run XP exploit, or Malthael runs) and no action was ever taken to roll back any of the benefits that players got using this.
The world #1 non-season spot was already taken from INVIS's group yesterday by a Korean group, and I wouldn't be surprised if with paragon 1000, rank 70 gems, and perfect gear we'll see a GR64 in seasons in a few weeks. The real damage is that there are groups that have stacks full of 64/65 keys on seasons which are probably impossible to get without Sever. You can't do anything about that - just like with the trial exploit in January which affected the leaderboards for a long time (maybe some high level keys are still present from that time, who knows).
Thanks for clarifying that! I wasn't aware in such manner of those mechanics. I knew that Diablo is numbers and numbers but this overwhelms me
To the discussion: I honestly don't think Blizz should ban them or reset leaderboards. They figured out by themselves that combination of mechanics and I'm just amazed that acctually things like this are possible. For me as casual player most combos restricts to for example SoH + Lightning damage. Rly ppl It's just a game and we are wonderful community! "Are you not entertained"
Why is this even an argument? Do I think they should be banned? no, but i definitely thing they should get scrubbed from grift boards, they knew that this was a bugged mechanic and they took advantage of it, that's the definition of an exploit.
and furthermore the length of time it existed in the game without getting fix doesn't mean it's not an exploit lol, just because no ones stolen anyone's horse since the "olden days" doesn't mean it's a non-crime. the issue is that the mechanic was double dipping damage from grim+sever and producing ridiculous numbers and NONE of it was "ok'd by blizzard" hence them immediately taking it out. get off it
Some people just need to chill out. You shouldn't ban them you should be thanking them for helping find a bug that if it had gotten though would have killed season 3 right out of the gate. This is why Blizzard made the public test realm so they could find problems like this and fix them.
Took them 7 minutes to do GR 63 and you folks think its okay? Really?
Whatever...
how is that not cheating? using a bug like that seems like cheating if you read blizzards definition of it. If I were to go on WoW right now and duplicate items using a known bug I would get banned for abusing a bug like that, how is this no different?
