Legendary Gems

The datamined info for Legendary Gems suggests that they will have two "special affixes". The Primary one being static (or rolled when the item drops), and the Secondary one being upgradeable by the new Artisan, Urshi - found in the depths of Greater Rifts. It is worth noting they are still not implemented in the current version of the PTR, as the blue post below explains, but should be soon™.

Once we've fleshed out Legendary Gems a bit more, we'll patch them in with a later PTR build. Each PTR patch will be accompanied by patch notes (published in the PTR launcher and the front page of this site), so just keep an eye on those notes to see when Legendary Gems become available. :)
Legendary Gems are still undergoing significant iteration at this time, so you won't see them available on the PTR right away. The gist is that these gems are infinitely upgradeable, and provide special Legendary powers when socketed into the appropriate gear slot. They can only be socketed into Rings and Amulets, and can be upgraded by completing additional Greater Rifts. The higher you place in a Greater Rift, the more likely your gem will be successfully upgraded. We'll have more details in the future as we continue development on these powerful baubles, so stay tuned!

Clickables in Greater Rifts

The absence of chests, corpses and other clickable containers in Greater Rifts is intended design by the developers, and Vaneras dropped by a thread to explain why.

Thanks
Well, I can totally see that the Harrington Waistguard might not be the most useful item to equip in Greater Rifts, but that being said, I doubt that we will get to see much of an increase of clickables in Greater Rifts.

Since you are very much racing the clock in Greater Rifts, the developers are trying to keep distractions to a minimum. Things like smashing clickables, picking up drops, and inventory management will cost you valuable time, so we are trying to avoid that by moving all the drops and rewards and such to the boss at the end.

Ramalandi's Gift

Ramalandi's Gift is a consumable that adds a socket and currently drops in the PTR. There were some confirmations as to how the item is intended to work by a blue post.

Also, if I have a piece of gear already rolled with sockets, can I re-roll the socket to something else, then use this item to get sockets on it with an extra stat?
I dont think Ive seen any solid information on this, the description in the patch was vague.
Presently Ramalandi's Gift has an incorrect tooltip and patch note, which makes it very confusing to decipher how it's supposed to work. Also, the item is not yet fully implemented, which means it can't be looted right now (even though it's dropping on the PTR). We're aware of that issue, but we don't have an ETA to share at the moment on when we expect it to be 100% functional.

That said, here's how Ramalandi's Gift is currently intended to work. This is all with the caveat that it's still under development, and potentially subject to change:

  • It will add a socket to an unsocketed weapon
  • It only works on weapons
  • It will work on enchanted weapons, so long as they don't have a socket
  • It effectively adds an item affix in the form of a socket
nless you mean an unsocketed item, that you use the gift on, then change the new sockets made with the gift into another affix, then use the gift again.
which is a total abuse, and i'm HOPING that Blizz saw that possibility coming from miles away and already has a stop gap to prevent that sort of thing.
Great question! (Or consideration.)
  • The added socket provided by Ramaladni's Gift cannot be enchanted.
  • You cannot use Ramaladni's on a weapon more than once.
  • Similarly, you cannot use Ramaladni's on a weapon that already has a socket.
You can, however:
  • Replace a natural socket on a weapon with another primary stat (like VIT or STR or INT), and then use Ramaladni's after.
  • Replace a re-rolled socket on a weapon with another primary stat (like VIT or STR or INT), and then use Ramaladni's Gift after.
  • Enchant a weapon after a socket has been added using Ramaladni's Gift. You just won't be able to re-roll another socket on that particular weapon.
I realize the above may be somewhat confusing, so please let me know if you have any additional questions about this item's functionality.
Edited to add: This is how the item should work under current design. That design may change before PTR ships.

Firebird's Finery

Fellow moderator and official forum MVP Jaetch posted a very nice thread with his thoughts on the Wizard's current situation, and he was assured the devs are definitely not done with Firebird's Finery, and are definitely listening to the PTR feedback on class balance!

Thanks for the constructive feedback, everyone. Please keep it up! Rest assured I'm going through not only this, but other threads, and collecting as much as I can to pass on (and for other classes as well).

It's certainly worth mentioning that this is just our first iteration of the 2.1 PTR. There are some features not yet implemented, such as Legendary Gems and activating Seasons for testing, and that goes for other upcoming class and item changes too.

I also want to call out that Greater Rifts are going to play a big part in helping us identify clear issues, as is your feedback on what you'd like to see. There's currently a bug that's allowing low level Greater Rifts to skew some of this data (and Leaderboards) which we have plans to address. We're looking into the details of this, so as soon as we have more information, we'll let you know!

Do we dare talk about Firebird's Finery? That set was a laughingstock of 6-piece sets in the live game. It was slated to be revamped and all that's changed was increasing the damage from 300% over 5 seconds to 2000%. That is not a revamp. That is barely an improvement.
As a quick note, we're already taking a closer look at Firebird's Finery. This was our first pass and we agree that there's more room for work here. In this case, there's also the happenstance that a Fire focus just makes the most logical sense for this particular set ('cause, you know, Firebird's), and we acknowledge that Fire is already an incredibly strong element. You will likely see more iteration on this set in additional PTR patches, so stay tuned and be sure to keep letting us know what you think!

Miscellaneous Strings

A few more interesting strings were found in the game code. There is mention of an "Apprentice Mode", where a low level character joining a high level character's game has his/her stats boosted. What we know so far is that this is a system meant for the console version of the game.

Also worth noting on Seasons, that its specific legendaries cannot be used by non Seasonal characters (there's a string to block that), obviously meant to prevent people from just passing items along while the Season lasts. Also how each Season will have specific Achievements, and the more achievements you complete, the more rewards you will gain when it ends.

Character Copy Cooldown

In order to test the PTR settings, the player has to "copy" his profile from a specific region into the PTR server. That feature had a 72 hour cooldown period, but that's being reduced to 24 hours today.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

  • This means that if you copy over your characters to the PTR today, you will be able to copy them again after only 24 hours.
  • This also means that if you have a character copy cooldown active right now, it's time has been reduced to 24 hours and may have already expired as a result.

PTR Leaderboards Reset

The PTR Greater Rift Leaderboards will be wiped shortly, due to a bug which allowed players to create low level Greater Rifts, which in turn made leaderboards' results not very legit.

There will be a short interruption of service as we apply a hotfix to remove the ability to create less than level 70 Greater Rifts and clear out the Leaderboard data. This downtime should last no longer than 30 minutes. Please note that there may be an increase in game queues during this time.

Since these changes are being applied via a hotfix, players who attempt to open a Greater Rift in a game that is less than level 70 will not receive a validation error and may be disconnected from the game if they continue attempting to open such Rifts.

Thank you for participating in the PTR and for your patience and understanding as we work to resolve these issues.

Seasons To Be Enabled Soon

Seasons are currently disabled at the Public Test Realm, but it looks like it won't be too long until they are enabled for testing, judging from a blue post earlier today.

wot is the reason to release PTR 2.1 if not included ladder/season........ cant believe this.
Seasons are currently disabled on the PTR, but it should not be long now until you can have a go at testing them :-)

When Seasons have been enabled on the PTR we will provide an update in the official PTR patch notes.
