Datamining: Stat Caps Removed, Achievements and More
The stat caps for Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage and Attack Speed have been removed from the datamined files. The Lifesteal change is new though, so it remains. The other stats like Magic Find have not been touched.

There are some other interesting strings that we managed to find. Notice the name of the required difficulty.

As always, keep in mind that this is a super early build of the expansion, which means that absolutely nothing is final and everything can change at any time!

Regarding the existing monster affixes. We'll be keeping an eye on these. For example, Reflects Damage internally has been changed to a flat amount rather than a percentage. I don't know if it's going to ship this way but that's the current internal version.

Transmogrification Clarifications
The current plan for transmogrification is to allow players both to change the look of their Legendaries, as well as to change the look of their gear to Legendaries they have previously identified.

With Transmogrification, we want you to be able to make your character look the way you want without having to worry about sacrificing stats or unique affixes. There may be times you acquire a really awesome looking Legendary, but it doesn't jive well with your build. If you managed to find it, we think you should be able to rock it while you slaughter demons in style.

Is there any chance this could be a system of "vanity slots" though, instead of having to actually modify each piece of gear?
Transmogrifying items is attached to the individual item, and the current plan is to have it bind the item to your account. It's part of the "cost," so to speak. In addition, avoiding the use of vanity slots allows us to reduce player item management, as you don’t need to keep an item around for its appearance. Appearances will be unlocked either by leveling up the Mystic or, in the case of Legendaries, identifying the item. We feel this system is a bit more versatile as a result.

Will this cost money? As in, dollars or gold.
Currently, the plan is that it will cost only gold (and using a Legendary appearance naturally costs a bit more). Of course, this is subject to change as development continues.

I am wondering if you will be planning on take the route that was taken by wow to let you transmog an item to look like one in the same slot that is not the same type.
Within reasonable limitations. Items that share similar animations can be Transmogrified, such as a 1-handed sword to 1-handed axe (which both have a swinging animation), but you cannot change a javelin (which has an overhead thrusting animation) into either. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

So, for this week's Community Commentary, let's take a moment to share our fond memories and reminisce (constructivley) in JuskiReigns "Diablo III: I remember when…" discussion on the Diablo Fans forums.

Recalling how Diablo III has grown since its release is a great way to put some of the game's evolution into perspective, and can help bring the community together in a positive way. Wait...torment difficulty? Is this old news and I missed that somewhere!?
  • #2 FoxBatD2
Random guess: everything above normal difficulty is removed. "Torment" difficulty is a post-normal mode that scales content to match the party's level. HIgher difficulty "levels" will be a re-branding of MP (with other possible bells and whistles).

I know what you're thinking, but Inferno was merely a set back.

Notice it says "torment difficulty or higher" so I'd hazard a guess that the monster power numbered levels will be replaced for fewer and more meaningful difficulty levels.

Keep in mind what those achievements used to be:

    - Kill the Butcher without being burned by floor fires or being grabbed by Ancient Spear on Hell difficulty or higher.
    - Kill the Butcher in under 2 minutes on Inferno difficulty.
    - Kill the Butcher while he is stunned by his own charge attack on Nightmare difficulty or higher.

It sounds like this is a new proper difficulty mode. They've talked about getting rid of Hell before - my guess is they're revamping the difficulty progression to be Normal -> Torment -> Inferno, and the renaming is to prevent confusion since all the level requirements are changing.

wait what? I thought CD/CC/AS were getting capped like hell. now there will be NO CAP at all?

unless you mean the paragon point thingie? we'll be able to put as many points into them as we want?

i second this. Combining nightmare and hell seems like the most logical thing to do. 4 difficulties with 5 acts is just too much.

well there never was a cap so we are back to normal, only cap for those stats were how much u can get them from gear, no hardcap

Does anyone know how much the RoS keychain from the Blizzcon ticket costs? Can't seem to find it on the shop without buying the ticket first (or i'm just terrible at navigating the store).

    Any help/link is most appreciated!

That's a good point you make. I've always wanted the number of difficulty levels to be cut back down to 3, but I just gave up hope on that dream.
  • #11 elvy
Well they're serious about playtesting everything, those damn iterations of them (they keep using that word and their end result was Diablo 3 1.0 so I'll hate it for a while).

I hope they cap the trifecta stats though. That or reintroduce prefixes and suffixes so you can't get trifectas anymore.

Considering the "Hell" difficulty is called "Tormento" in portuguese, I was a bit confused about the changes. (Poor localization team, there's not much you can do when "Hell" translates to "Inferno". Oops)

Can't say I'm too mad (or surprised) about this. Diminishing returns is a much better approach than hard caps. With hard caps, everything becomes about 'hitting the cap' and we are back to where we started.

Ah ah, we have a similar problem for the Inferno name since it's the translation of hell in Italian, so the third difficulty in Diablo 3 is called Abisso (Abyss) in my language. Oh well, i play in English :P

To stay on topic. Torment could be a new name for MP level or a new difficulty that substitutes one or two from current ones.... At least Blizzcon is "soon".

EDIT: i totally missed this: "TIP024 - Defeating Normal difficulty will unlock the next difficulty setting, Nightmare. (THIS TIP IS NO LONGER IN THE GAME FILES)"

So.... can be Torment the new "Nightmare+Hell"?
  • #19 miles_dryden
I'm kind of split on the whole "Torment" thing. There really isn't enough information right now to make any conclusions, but working on the assumption that it is in fact a new format for difficulty modes and not just a new name related to MP, my gut reaction is "ugh". Normal > Nightmare > Hell is a Diablo tradition and I'd hate to see that go away. Still, if it improves the game flow or whatever, then I guess I can't complain.

Agree! Assuming the "Normal -> Torment -> Inferno" would be true, it makes no sense why they wouldnt just go back to "Normal -> Nightmare -> Hell"
